are nurse-nurse marriages common in your country?
The moment i set my foot in a nursing school cheated the minds of most of my friends as they thought it was a new chapter in finding a marriage partner, as days went by things were totally different tough i never made an effort to have one. most of my close friends tried to have a girl who is a nursing student, but most of them complained that they were kicked out by saying " i can never marry a man who takes orders from a doctor i better get married to a doctor or someone of a different profession" this trend existed for almost two years, some indeed got boyfriends from medical schools and others men from different professions. today the funny thing is that most of these girls are desperate for serious men to marry them, and are trying to adhere to the very same male nursing students they underestimated, it is therefore an abstract war between men and girls at my nursing school.Do female nursing students perceive male nurses as worthy their husbands? Are nurse-nurse marriages common in your country?

how do people perceive male nurses in your country
i have been a male nursing student for four years now, in the first place i could not believe being enrolled in a nursing school .The most funny thing is that i chose to be a registered nurse before i left secondary school. I never revealed this to anyone because in my country most people feel nursing is a profession for women and male nurses are described as half man half a woman, cowards and all sorts of names. i have been struggling with this for a long time, my friends use to laugh at me for choosing to be a nurse, sometimes when i go for clinical placements most clients ask me how i feel to be a nurse considering that am a man, now am immune to that and proud that i will be a qualified male nurse. how are you perceived as a male nurse in your country?

male nursing students are suffering
I've been a nursing student for four years, at my college female lecturers out number male lecturers. i have made an observation that all male students are treated with a red eye and whenever a slight mistake is done by a male student it even cost his education. on the other hand when female student behave unprofessionally beyond tolerable limits only verbal response ensues. there have been several contentious issues concerning female nursing student and lecturers know the responsible individuals but the resultant result is to let them do what they want. This pitiless and development obstacle goes further to academic performance, i have observed that a man at my college has never been recognized as outstanding regardless of how rich his Grey matter is, this devastate me with extreme worry and fear i even don't feel free to express my feelings and concerns. i wish there would have been an external body to look into the issues of academic performance other than these counter development lecturers who always want to see male nursing students suffering. to make it clear its not all female lecturers who display this unbecoming behavior but a greater population of them, at least minimum of 90% of female lecturers. Is this the way it happens with you my fellow male nurses? its been a long time i've been experiencing this torture and torment. please guys i need your stance on this.

Caring For Unconscious Patient
Hi I thank you for your message,if I got you correctly I believe it is good to speak to an unconsious patient for the following reasons It act as an evaluatory intervention on patient condition i.e to find out deterioration or improvement. just to remind you, explain each and every procedure before carrying it out I therefore recommend speaking to this patient.Remember being unconscious does not mean the patient is dead or deaf.

Caring For Unconscious Patient
It is therefore important for a nurse to know how and what to feed this patient. If the nurse does not know how to feed this patient he may end up developing some complications such as aspiration pneumonia. Immobility is another problem. It's important that a nurse performs a passive range of motion to prevent the development of contractures and also to promote circulation to all body parts. It is also paramount that a nurse understand how to position this patient, lateral position is the most preferred to make sure the airway is patent by allowing free drainage of secretions at the same there is need to monitor accumulation of secretions and suction if needed, blocked airway prevent gaseous exchange and may lead to lack of oxygen to tissues hence tissue death. It is also important to turn the patient every two hours to prevent the development of pressure sores a nurse may also apply talcum powder on pressure areas to prevent the pressure sore development. It is also important to monitor hydration status by skin pinch or looking at mucous membranes for dryness and also monitor input and output. strictly monitor urine for amount, color and consistency before disposing of the urine as the patient may be catheterized. Personal cleansing and grooming needs should be met therefore a nurse need to provide bed bath at least twice a day and dress the patient clean dry clothes, clean his teeth twice a day. Explaining patient condition to significant others is very important so as to dispel anxiety and make them understand the patient condition this also promote cooperation as you want to carry out some procedures. It is very important that every nurse working in areas needing critical care such as High Dependency Units has enough knowledge to assess and intervene appropriately he should also be able to communicate any change in patient's condition for multidisciplinary intervention. A nurse working in these areas should also be able to use equipment available for instance a problem of airway blockage due to secretions has been found and then this nurse does not know how to sunction, this may result in death of this patient because gaseous exchange is vital for metabolic processes of the body hence the need for skill in using different equipment available at that setting. Therefore High Dependency units or any unit for critically ill patient need enough staff to monitor the patient closely, it also needs proper supervision of a charge nurse to make sure the patient gets quality care. Students either nursing or medical should be closely supervised before any decision is implemented to make sure only what is expected is done it is also important that few students are allocated at each unit to minimize errors. An unconscious patient fully depends on us for his recovery as such it is our responsibility to always think critically before intervening if you are not sure to ask a colleague or consult. The more the knowledge we have the greater the difference we can make on our patients. Thanks for reading.

Are Nurses Really Autonomous
Hello all users of this site, I would like to seek your views on the above topic.I understand a registered nurse is descrabed as autonomous(under characteristics of a registered nurse).Do you really exercise this property in your country.Iam in africa and a student at a nursing school male by sex,I have been on several clinical placements for close to three years.but I feel this is not implemented, get me right iam not trying to underestimate our medical counterparts but to know how you operate in other countries.Remember to be autonomous you need to have knowledge and skills for whatever you what to carry out. Thank you.
