A New RN, Quit Job after 5 Months
Hi, I just wanted to say hang in there, after graduating i worked in at a hospital after and after 5 months left because Of a preceptor who felt it was her duty to make me feel like worm dirt (to put in nicely) on a regular basis. I recently found a job a couple of months ago at a docs office and i LOVE IT, I work with nice people and am treated with respect by my other co workers and the physician i work for. yeah, it's not the hospital but I still ensure the safety of my patients and work to make sure there needs are met. Don' t give up, and good luck to you. god bless.. you will find your niche...

I have limited hospital experience and its even hard with limited experience to get into a hospital here in NJ where I live. was wondering if it would be better for me when we move. thanks for yoru input..

Do you think it will change?
Hi, I posted a couple of days ago and wanted to get everyones 2cents.. I graduated a couple of years ago and did a 4 month internship in a hospital (med/surg) and then left nursing to have my 1st baby. I'm currently working in a docs office pt but really want to get back to more of an acute setting. problem is i live in central nj and altho i've applied to the hospitals around here i've gotten nothing. I also tried applying to home health and other places but most of the time all i hear is we want 1 year med/surg experience.. My question is how can you get the experience if you can't get hired and everyone wants the experience? arghhh its so frustrating.. is this happening all over the country or just here in nj? I had a friend who who just graduated started a tele job back in july i was hoping she would be able to pull me into where she works but she just quit after feeling she didn't get the training she should so herein lies another problem. I feel like I'm being punished for leaving so taking time away from the field awhile to have a baby.. So again are other people experiencing this? and do you all think this is something that is going to get better or worse with the economy the way it is? thanks for your input.

night shift better?
Hi mamaD, that's what I kind of figured that maybe that without the day chaos as you mentioned I would have more time to think and learn without interupptions every 5 seconds...

night shift better?
Hi everyone, i haven't been here in a really long time. I graduated in 06 worked for about 4 months in a hospital then left. Since then I've had a baby and am currently working pt in a allergy/asthma office and i really like it. problem is $$$$ with paying for daycare and it beign an office position i don't make much. I keep thinking maybe i should give the hospital a second shot but am nervous especially now that its been 2 years that I haven't been there and I feel like I've forgotten sooo much. I just feel like if I could do a full year and stick it I might acutally like it. I think before I wasn't really didn't know how hard it would be and it threw me for a loop maybe know knowing its going to be hard I can just set a goal to get through a year and then reevaluate how i feel? I worked days previously and it was just to crazy I'm t hinking maybe if I tried to get a night position 7pm-7a.m. it might be of course still busy but not the interferences of families, docs, etc which might make it a little easier to learn? The other problem is i'm thinking it might even be hard to land a hospital position since its been so long and i worked so briefly after graduating. well, I figured I would just post to get some thoughts and input :redbeathe

liability info for allergy office nursing..
Hi everyone, I've been out of the field for a short time to have my first daughter. I worked med/surg for 4 months after graduating then got prego. I just accepted a saturday rn position in a asthma/allergy doc office. I will be giving immunology shots. there is another nurse that will be there as well working for another doc. The doc said he would train me and any questions he is there to answer if I think a patient is having a reaction or whatever. my question is does anyone know where I can find more information about what I'm responsible for when doing this kind of work other then the obvious, (i.e. making sure docs orders are followed for administering, correct dosage to correct patient, makeing sure the patient is stable prior and after administration.) I'm exciting but nervous at the same time. If anyone works in this kind of office I'd love any guidance advice. thank you kindly. :redpinkhe

First Year Finally Over!!!
Congratulations, that is so awesome! I graduated in 06 and had a very rough start to nursing. I then got pregnant and left and kind of wish i would have stuck it out. I'm thinking in august when my daughter turns one I will start looking for a position again and just promise myself to shoot for getting one year under my belt and then to see how I feel about things. congrats again to you!!

Need Advice - New Mom or Nurse or BOTH
Hi thanks, yes that is part of my problem feeling scared to leave the baby you just hear so many bad things. My husband is more for daycare rather then having someone in the home. I don't have to work but I'm the type of person that has worked all my life (this is a 2nd career) so I feel like I need to be out doing something and besides I want to put to use all I learned it school and to learn more. I'm just very torn at the moment. I'm afraid if I stay with her till she is 2 then it will be very hard for me to find work as a new grad who has also been out of the field for awhile.

Need Advice - New Mom or Nurse or BOTH
Hi everyone I posted in the career advice forum but didn't hear back and really really really could use some advice or just your 2 cents. I graduated with a ADN in 06 I only worked 4 months and became pregnant with my first daughter who is now 6 months unexepectdly. I choose to leave the floor because I just didn't want to be running around with my first pregnancy. Now I'm debating whether to go back or not. Part of me really wants to and is afraid if I don't go back now I'll forget everything on the other hand I don't have family to watch the baby which means daycare or a sitter in the home. I thought if I worked nights at least I could sleep and the sitter would be here with me here which might make me feel more comfortable about the whole thing. But then I remember how tough those first 4 months were and I know my first "continued" year will be tough as well and do I really want to go through that stress with a little one at home. I'm so torn, I'm thinking aonther option might be to get my BSN on line while the baby is little so at least I'm doing something. Any advice again I'm keep going in circles with trying to figure out what to do.. Anyone else been a SAHM and then come back to nursing? Please help!!

Back to School for BSN or work?
Hi everyone I'm so torn I hope you can all give me some advice. I graduated 2 years ago and worked for about 4 months in a hosptial on a med/surg floor. I left because I was unhappy and also became pregnant at about the same time. I didn't want to be pregnant and under alot of stress so I haven't worked since. My daughter is now 5 months old and part of me really feels a pull to go back to work. I really didn't like the hospital BUT I also feel I didn't really give it enough time to get comfortalbe with everything. I think as a new grad I felt that the adjustment to the real world would be ALOT easier then it was. I'm also thinkign that maybe I would look for work outside of the hosptial possibly LTC. I'm envious of my friends now who have stuck it out and now have 1 year plus under there belts. My dilemma is I'm not thrilled with having to get childcare for my little girl, :oI have started looking into seeing if I could find someone to watch her here in my home 2-3 days. I'm thinking if I did get a nightshift somewhere I might be able to have a sitter in my home watching her while I sleep. Also, I feel sooo SCARED to go back into nursing but I think more "realistically" ready for the challeges it holds. I know I'm going to come up against difficult people and I need to be ready to face it. I guess I just feel I worked so hard for my license I really want to use my knowlege and continue to learn. On the other hand I'm thinking I could just stay at home with my little girl and start working on a BSN degree either on line or attending school at night. I guess I'm just looking for some opinions to help me figure out what direction might be best for me at this point. HELP! I just feel so confused..

Question Adult Day Care RN Salary & Duties
Hi all, I'm looking at a position working one day a week at an adult day care center as a RN. When I graduated (2 years ago) I worked on a med/surg floor and then became prego with my first daughter and was lookign for some part time work to get back into the field. I have an interview tomorrow but have no idea what the salary is for these types of places? Does anyone know? I live in NJ? Also it seems like I will mostly be passing meds but has anyone else done this type of work and what did it entail? thanks for any input you have.?
