  1. One of our Neuro Surgeons prefers it to be drawn out of the ventric cylinder after it is a fresh csf sample. The other likes it taken from the closest stopcock to the head. But as previously stated, I have seen grey matter pulled out as a result of too much negative pressure as well. Sorry, but that can't be to healthy for the pt, so I take my samples from the csf cylinder port.
  2. The "A" stands for accommodation. This can only be checked on pts. that are capable of following commands. It is the constriction of the pupil caused when you have the pt. focus on an object that is held 1-2 feet in front of the face and then moving the object closer to the face. As the object comes within 4-6 inches the eyes will converge inward and the pupils will constrict.
