Trouble with seasoned nurses?
I agree with the comment. No nurse is done learning, no matter how long you have been a nurse. Unfortunately, I feel there are many nurses who may feel intimidated by NEW nurses for fear of the new nurse doing a better job than them or making them feel bad for not doing their job like they USED to. Example, burnt OUT! Also medicine is changing all the time and new techniques are proven to work better. The new nurses may have learned these techniques in nrsg school and the nurse who has been a nurse for a while doesn't like the change. There are new nurses that seem to think they may know it all- and they will find out soon enough they don't! But I just think it's wrong to see a new nurse with confidence- and try to destroy that. There is a huge difference between confidence and thinking you know it all! If these nurses who have been nurses for a while have confidence in themselves they definitely would NOT be feeling this way about NEW nurses. AND they have to remember that these NEW nurses will one day be taking care of them! I believe it all goes by the experiences people have! Some good and some bad! New nurses have to ask for help and ask questions when needed, but that doesn't mean they are punching bags or a way for nurses who have been nurses a while to one up themselves. You can't control others or let them affect you- but you also have a right to stand up for yourself!! Always! RN-BSN ( for only three months) and going to school for acute care nurse practicioner and proud of it!

Hesi exit exams
That is horrible! And my major concern. I feel the pain and anger she may feel. Your exactly right. THat is how my school is- last semester- never heard of the hesi before then. You know I wish that one student can make a difference for all because I am persuing this regardless of my schools reputation- because I know I went through a very prestigious school and the hospitals in my area know this. This doesnt put any value on ME as a student. It makes the school look greedy and unfair AS ALL THE TEACHERS ARE NURSES WHO ARE DOING THIS! A nightmare! I would tell your aunt to fight it 100%! Take out a loan to get this done. WHat is 3000.00 to get lawyer or however much it would cost after she has already spent all that money and time? Like I have said I passed the Hesi test, but I can't get over what they are doing to other students to come or what they have done to other students in the past. Not to mention other students in America! So sorry. Keep your head up and focus on your Hesi- and warn everyone to start studying immediately for this. It is a rude awakening. Some say it's no big deal- and I hardly doubt this. Unless they are wonderful test takers and pretty much good guessers. You can't say oh I am just so smart thats why I passed. I had a 3.8 grade pt average and graduated with honors. People who struggled throughout nrsg school some passed first time. Again this shows you the validity of that Hesi test. And I mean these are people that barely passed clinicals- or actually did fail at some point. Stay positive and pass this test! And be there for your poor aunt. I am disgusted!

Trouble with seasoned nurses?
It's really hard to deal with situations like this when you are a new nurse or even a student nurse or for that matter a cna. I respect nurses who have been in the field for a while because when it comes down to it- if we don't know something, we will need that nurse/nurses. On the other hand I understand and tend to agree with mel or someone who said ask them if they would like to continue report. That was great! Also skull had some good advice too! Even though you are a new nurse you should expect respect as well from your fellow coworkers- nurse or not. We are suppost to be nurses and care for others- not a power contest. It just makes me know what kind of nurse i am not.

Friends mad at me because I passed and they didn't?
I'm not upset and I was just making it clear that I wasn't implying that anything was this womans fault persay. She is married and has children- why would she become so upset with their behavior towards her if she says they live a different lifestyle and they added stress to her life during test and so on. If she was having people check on them at Kaplan? Why? If they didn't awnser my phone calls- ignore me- I would have been upset as well, but I have a life to live and husband and children to take care of. Of course her "friends" may live differently than she does. They are more than likely younger and single. Just another way to look at things. no pun intended:specs:

Very good points. ha ha. Dont worry im not going to start a war with you. Unlike some, I can except a difference of opinion and I respect that you say what you think. I made an opinion the forum why my friends are mad at me and this girl jumped my case- and no one agrees with me and lets it be known. But, yeah- i understand exactly what you are saying.

Friends mad at me because I passed and they didn't?
who says they think they are better? Everyone is always so quick to blame others when this world would be a better place if people would take a look at theirselves every once in a while- that was all I meant. Obviously this girl is hurt by her so called friends. This is just writing- I can't read minds. She explained and then I explained and that was it. I guess some people that read this get upset because I didn't feed fuel to this girls fire about her friends. "Ditch them" " lose them" " you are right" I don't see it that way and I have a right to my own opinion as you do as well. There are alot of misinterpretations with forums. She didn't have to explain herself she was asking for opinions and put her situation out there- and I gave her mine. THe end.

Thank you so much! You know I actually passed it last week, but I am still persuing this. I will get my money back and everyone elses money from that school since 2000 when they started this thing. That is so unfortunate about your sister and her friend. You know what I think these schools will have to stop this HESI stuff- hopefully after enough students get lawyers and stand up for their rights- it will stop. Again, thank you for the support.

ok. let me tell you I passed hesi today and I actually took it at my intructors house. I demanded I wanted a private room because this helped me concentrate even better. So ask about that. Also, I went to doc and he prescribed me xanax .25 for anxiety. Im not saying so that but it truly helped me calm down because I have been so worked about the entire school thing. It is not your knowledge content it is your nerves. YOu have made it this far! For a reason. Believe in yourself. I also went to counseling just to talk about some of my anger. I also have a lawyer who says he will be able to get my money back for tuition. In other words things are working out. And they will for you. You have to dig deep and eliminate things in your life that may be detrimental. Thats what I did. More than likely it is not knowledge content. It is nerves. Then, find time to study. I did NCLEX 3500 cd and this helped me tremendously. You might want to check it out. It really helped me.

Friends mad at me because I passed and they didn't?
I truly apologize. That is how I took it. No I am not a person that would be upset. I love my friends- and my friend love me. These are my TRUE friends not just my nrsg buddies. Friends don't try to one up you- they try to stand beside you and in my case if my friends needed a pick me up- then I would let them on top so to say because they are my friends and I know they would do this for me. The reason for what I wrote is probably because a nrsg "friend" passed hesi and then went around claiming that everyone was mad at her and jealous when we weren't at all. Some may have been, but I was happy for her. And she made herself the victim- if you know what I mean. I passed my hesi tonight and all my friends were there to say congrats and to be truly honest I felt no different then when I didnt pass the first time. I knew it was something I would do because I worked my butt off for it. Again, I am sorry if I took you wrong. This is something I need to say to that particular person- not to mention the fact she told a mutual nrsg "friend" that now that she was done she wouldn't have to ever see anyone from school again. So it's just one of those things that surprises us all in the end, but the importance is staying true to self and moving on to bigger and better things. And leaving behind the people who you thought were your friends.

Friends mad at me because I passed and they didn't?
One more thing, not to be cruel, but do you think maybe you would feel this way if the tables were turned? And maybe they haven't been awnsering their phones as much because they are busy studying- I havent been out or talked everyday with my friends because of the hesi. And then when they do pass you guys can celebrate together.

Friends mad at me because I passed and they didn't?
ok. here is what i see just from this. Congrats first for passing Hesi and your boards. Secondly, look at how you worded this "passed hesi and nclex, and they havent even passed after the 2nd time. Maybe this is all in context, but if you have this type of attitude- they may sense this. And maybe you are just thinking they will be jealous- when indeed some maybe, but if they are your close friends as you say- they would not be. You have to ask yourself do i want them to be? You hiding that you passed your boards is not helping your situation. On the other hand, if they are ignoring your phone calls and being very immature about the situation- then yeah who needs friends like this.

The bigger question is who is the idiot who came up with this question? They could'nt have been a nurse!! Either that or they are just vain!

Oh they can see this. They know exactly what they are doing. I am angry if you can't tell. But Nursing schools were getting close to boderline accreditation, which makes them very scared of losing thier instiuition or even further THEIR paychecks. So a group of nursing educators-nurses came up with a review course ie HESI to sale to schools. This is suppost to be a remediation that tells the teachers where they are lacking as well as students weaknesses. With this it may seem like a great idea because a school SHOULD do all they can for THEIR students to help them be successful at their boards. Well, somehow the idea went bad and schools figured out a way to use this HESI as a moneymaker. And to prevent students who may fail NCLEX from taking their test. Although this HEsi hasnt been proven to do either. If you have taken hesi review you may pass NCLEX, but if you havent taken HESI does this mean you wont pass? Believe me there are thousands of nrsg students everyday passing boards without taking the HESI and making a certain score that our schools have come up with. RIDICULOUS!

Not to mention our state board of nursing has NOTHING to do with the HESI!

Let me just tell you. My school incooperated a capstone course for the class underneath me. This way they can protect thier butts for people who complain or file suit. And they can say this is a course incooperated into our program. yes. I think it is still wrong because these people came into the nursing program unaware of this change and how can they do this if it wasn't in the original policy. The Hesi is not a course for my graduation class, in which we are the last class that doesn't have the capstone incooperated into their program. The schools just think they can do whatever they want. And they are raising our levels to 950 from what I hear from the undergrads. maybe this way they can get more people to fail and collect more money. the way I see it is we aren't failing a review course because we don't make a certain score.

Exactly! We are all capable or we would't have made it this far! We have to stick up for what is fair for us students and others who enter nursing programs that do not fully understand thier schools policies until after they have spent money, tears, and sweat to get through. you will get through this as well as I. Believe in yourself! And don't let the school make you feel not capable because they want to protect thier accreditation. The hesi is soppost to be a review course not a use of punishment.

I have contacted a lawyer because I have two more tries and I am confident that I will pass this next try, but this still affects other students behind me. I am not one to pass and say ok I'm done and now I don't have to worry about this issue. It is an issue and it is wrong. And I will persue this. Thanks for sticking up for your other fellow nursing students.

Does anyone think this should be illegal? This was not in our student handbook nor did it state the 900 and above we must recieve in order to graduate. The school also states we fail the last course we took regardless of the actual grade we earned. THIS STAYS ON OUR TRANSCRIPT THAT WE FAILED A NRSG CLASS! WHEN THIS IS NOT THE CASE. They also are charging us a semesters worth of tuition for taking the hesi exam after unsuccessful tries of not passing with a 900 or above. This is not a separate class. Where is this money going? If we don't have to actually repeat the course, yet have to pay. I was done with school in October, but not able to sit for boards yet nor recieve my BSN in which I successfully completed all requirements for each course clinically and classroom. How can this be stopped? This is for the NCLEX to decide not a study guide for the NCLEX. Why should this determine my future of whether I become a prudent, successful, caring nurse that I know I would be?
