  1. did you have questions about the correct way to address abusive behavior by a dr? What is the best way to handle a dr who is demeaning?
  2. I just took a mandatory hospital new grad computerized exam to test my basic nursing competencies. It basically consisted of watching several videos (you just got one chance to look at each video) and had to point out what was taking place in the video. For instance, one pt was having a heart attack, another pt a stroke, PE, there was a diabetic pt experiencing hypoglycemia and so forth. There was a total of six scenarios. After watching the videos you had to first write what your interventions would be; then anticipate what the dr. would order; and then write nursing diagnosis for each one. Needless to say I didn't do so good. Could someone please clarify what to anticipate with these problems - particularly when it comes it notifying the dr.

I just interviewed for an ER position and don't think I did so well. A question was asked:"What would you do if you had a Medication Error?" The first thing that came to mind was check pt. (I wish I had used the word "assess" instead) then notify charge nurse of error. What should I have said? The interview lasted about 30 mins, is that a good or bad sign. Thanks
  4. Question: Two pts come into the ER, which pt needs to be seen first: Pt complaining of SOB or pt complaining of severe chest pain. I'm preparing for an interview and thought of this question. I know I need to think of ABC's so i'm leaning towards choosing the patient with SOB. thanks!
  5. So, did you get the job? I'm interviewing next week. Any advice or tips you can share would be great!:redbeathe
  6. Help! I have an interview in the ED in a couple of days and need some advice as to how to answer "scenario" questions. I guess since the job market is so competitive, a lot of departments are choosing to use "scenario" based questions to help filter out the weaker candidates. I am a new grad with very limited ED knowledge. If hired I would have a six month residency program for new grads. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I need help answering this question: Tell me about a time you persisted when the odds were against you. Why did you keep trying? Right now the only thing I can come up with is successfully completing nursing school but should I gear it towards a job related task? Thanks again.
  7. It WORKS!!! I just found out at 0700 I passed! I can't believe my dream of becoming an RN has finally happened. I am on top of the world!
  8. Are the results the same regardless of which state you test from?
  9. How can you tell if you got "high level" questions?
  10. I was wondering the same thing. I'm from Colorado. Also, what is considered the "higher level questions". I had tons of teaching.
  11. Help! Taking the NCLEX was the worst experience ever! I felt like I was guessing on most of the questions. It shut off at 75. I took the Kaplan but wasn't able to apply the strategies they taught. Most were SATA, infection control, and priority questions. I didn't have any math calculations but had a handful of drugs I had never heard of. I came home and tried the "trick" on pearsonvue. I got a message saying: Already registered check with the board of nursing. Something to that effect. I wasn't able to go to the cc page. What does that mean? Is there still hope? If I failed would it have let me register/pay now?
