What question do you have, rabia3112? There are no easy nursing classes. If general studies classes seem easy, that is great. Keep in mind that you will have to take them at the same time with nursing classes.

It sounds like you had a good plan. I am doing Saunders (the blue one) too. Doing Kaplan "everything." So much material to go over! Thank you for replying. It feels comforting. If I am nervous thinking about NCLEX now, I wonder how I will actually feel taking it. Yes, to test in the morning would be great. I am not sure if I can survive until afternoon to take it.

Our transcripts were not sent yet (no email notification). Ready or not, I have to test in June. I only found few centers in VA. There are many? To be honest, I am a little concerned about ever being ready. Taking Kaplan review right now but feel like I am doing worse by using their decision tree. Probably should study harder. Thanks flames9

I think you should go to GMU and talk to someone. As you said, it is less tan 5 miles away. You will feel so much better. It is nice to have a plan. I just got my ADN from NVCC. Now I have to pass NCLEX. GMU is great, but there are other options.

I took ITE115 instead of computer competency exam.

I am nervous every time too. What helps me, is to talk it out. I tell my nurse what I am going to do before I go to the patient's room and ask her to watch me. It helps me to talk about the procedure before performing it. The more you do the task the more confident you will be. However, when you get too confident that is when you are most likely to make a mistake unfortunatelly.(even LPNs make mistakes) It is good to be allert all the time. Good luck! You are almost done! Do not give up :) You will have more training when you start working. Nursing school is just a beginning as I understand.

It really is a good idea to take some prerequisits right now. Northern Virginia Community College, for example, offers classes online. You could take online classes from anywhere and take care of your baby at the same time. Although some science classes might have lab. If you are planning to be RN eventually, it might make sence to go for it now. We have a lot of LPNs in our ADN program. Some say they wish they went straight for RN. Even if you didn't finish LPN program, it didn't go to waiste; hopefully, your knowledge will help you in nursing school. Good luck!

Flames, congratulations on passing NCLEX. Sorry I am off the topic, but we all (nursing students)will have to go through it eventually, right? After graduation, did you take some sort of review class? How much time did it take you to get ready? I know everyone is different, nevertheless, any advice? Again, congrats!

We were wondering the same thing our first year. We didn't learn anything yet, why are we taking that test? It was not hard, but I took my time and did very well. Some questions were about prioritizing. Let's say you have four patients. Who do you attend to first? You are offered a box of candy. Are you taking it, sharing it, or refusing it? I do not remember any other questions. I just failed my HESI test for NUR255 last week (number of reasons). Nothing happened :) Made me feel sad, that's all.

Traditional and accelerated started at the same time last Fall. A few people were able to switch after first semester from traditional to accelerated because of the family situation ( husband deployed e.t.c ). I am in traditional and I like it. I do not think I could survive 16 week class in 12 weeks during the summer while taking care of my family. However, it would be nice to graduate sooner. If you are only going to school and not working at the same time or have few children, and have all of your supporting classes done, accelerated program might be for you. Sometimes it is not an option to choose professor or clinical location. You probably already know that. :nuke:

I think Saturdays were for accelerated program students only last year. They graduate one semester sooner than traditional students BUT they have to work harder during the summer. Have you looked at online nursing program? Maybe it is more flexible? I am in traditional. Whoa, it is intense I am stay at home mom and I had to do a lot of kid-ignoring while studying. Also, my husband is very supportive. He was arranging his schedule around my school a lot. I wouldn't be able to go to school without his help. Good luck!

I would just sign it with sharpie. You will have a copy of your BLS card in your clinical portfolio not the original document anyway. Hope that helps :wink2: (Last year we were asked to include only copies because if you lose your portfolio you can replace it with a new one.)

I am just wondering how different second year of nursing school might be. I am taking NUR255 online this summer because I am trying to make the school work load lighter for the Fall. (thanks for the advice flames) What do you think? Will it be a lot harder? I am concerned because I do not feel competent. I feel like there is that second year that will make me feel like a nurse. I anticipate a lot of work because I do not feel like a nurse. Not yet... at least.

ha ha ha When I had to drive to Springfield for the lecture last school year, it took me sometimes an hour and half to drive back home because of the traffic! Our first semester, clinicals were assighned to us. Some people had an over hour commute. We couldn't choose where to go. However, we were able to trade locations with other people.

"Can you wear your stethoscope on one of those hip clips?" We agreed it's a waste of money. That thing is actually annoying because it's not that simple to attach stethoscope to it. It was a good idea but I guess it didn't work as well as creators thought it would. Keep it simple: black pen, small notebook, penlight (never got a chance to use in clinical), scissors (good idea) and stethoscope. Hope that helps.

If had to buy uniform all over again, I would order their scrub top but get pants somewhere else. One of my classmates has pants she bought in the Mall that have nice cut and look great. Just make sure it's the right color. Also, I wish I ordered my name tag with rounded edges (less chances of accidentally scratching someone). What else... we went through our first year without the use of a hemostat. Maybe next year? Love my purple Littmann stethoscope, but it's a little heavy to carry around in a pocket ( should not have it around the neck). PS: The scrubs sizes run large, a good idea to try one on before ordering. I had to exchange mine for the smaller size. Have fun!

You can do it! I know people with four kids who are doing it. I know people with full time jobs who are doing it. Every time I am scared, I look at those people, promiss myself to take one day at a time, and move on.
