Long enough orientation
I have been a nurse for 5 1/2 yrs but have not been in the hospital for 5 years. I have received an offer on a telemetry unit. The NM said orientation would probably last 8 wks. I would shadow a nurse for the first day, then I would start taking patients one by one until I was on my own. There is a lot of classes offered but they are done on your own time. When I grad. nursing school class time was part of the orientation. I plan on taking all the classes I can but I am concerned about the length of orientation. I would like to know is this the norm?

new "CFC-free" metered-dose inhaler "Pro-Air"
I work in an asthma and allergy clinic and I have not had any patients complain about the ProAir. I'm glad you posted this. I am going to start asking the patients specifically about it. Thank you!

Need Advice!!
Thank you for your comments. The interview is for the telemetry unit!! I am just nervous about the pace and the position is for day shift. I keep thinking of my son. He is three and I have been home with him since he was one. I will hate to be away on holidays. Really just christmas. Like classicdame sd. I can learn it later. What a decision!!

Need Advice!!
I am trying to decide to stay in the clinic or go back to the hospital. I went back to work part time at the clinic I worked at for 3 yrs. I decided I wanted to go back to the hospital to learn some of the skills I've lost. I only worked in the hospital for 6mo before I took this job at this clinic. So, in other words my skill where not wonderfull. I have an interview at the hospital for part time but as it nears I am wondering if I am doing the right thing. At the clinic I have major holidays off and weekends off. The money I make is enough but I don't feel like a nurse. I have not been in the hospital for 5 years and like I stated above my skills are nun. I haven't done an IV in 5 years!!! I have thought about waiting until I have all my kids and there in school but I don't know like I stated above it has been 5 yrs already, another 5 years may hurt me. I just can't decide get skills and loose some family time or stick with the clinic. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Start working in clinic or hospital?
I kinda can give some imput here. After I graduated I started working on a peds floor, I worked there 6mo and then landed a job at an Asthma and Allergy clinic. I worked there 3 years and then quit to stay at home with by boy. I was away for 2 yrs and then they called me again this month to come back to work and I did. The stress level is low and I am off major hoildays!!! I get to spend more time with my son but the trade off is that I lost a lot of my nursing skills. I have not started an IV in 5 years. Its a trade off. I am now trying to get back in the hospital part time. Do what you feel is best for your family. Good Luck!!

Returning RN
I am new to this. I am a RN, BSN looking to find a job back in the hospital setting. I have stayed at home with my son for the last 2 yrs. and before that I worked as a allergy nurse for 3 years. So, the only experience I have in the hospital is 6mo. of peds. I am very nervous to return to the hospital setting. I have an interview for a telemetry unit but I am concerned that I may not be able to keep up with the pace of such critical patients. I was ACLS cert. until year ago but I have never had to use it. I am wondering if anyone can tell me a little about telemetry b/c I did not do a rotation on that unit. If anyone could give me an advice on returning to the hospital setting. I would appreciate it! Thanks
