Anyone going to the NSNA conference in Disney this April?
I am going to the convention in April and serving as a delegate.... busy week! If anyone would like to split a room, PM me. It looks like I might be the only one from my school that is going, so the hotel room just got twice as expensive!

CSN Spring 2010
Are you going talking about unlv? csn and nsc don't use the nln, we use the teas test.

Nevada State College RN to BSN wants two years of math!
any bachelor degree is going to require you to take a college level math course, you either test into it or take the remedial classes. csn's ADN program not requiring college level math is the exception, not the rule. also, to be successful in your chemistry classes you have to be proficient in college level math.

Volunteer opportunities for a new grad
as a nursing student i volunteer with the health dept in las vegas, so i would imagine that the public health dept in such a large city could put an RN to use!!!

CSN-Student Nurses Association
Just a quick update on the NSNA. We had a good turnout on aug. 14th.... hopefully, we will need a bigger room in sept.!! We are preparing for elections in september, so keep an eye on angel. (should be updated this week, sometime) I can be reached by email if anyone wants to get involved or has questions. I am also the new chair of the fundraising committee if anyone has ideas or suggestions in this area. Hope to see more of you in september! Tabitha

Apollo College questions
i'm not sure if things are the same in reno, but i looked into apollo here in las vegas. my two major concerns were the tranferability of the courses and the price. getting my associates at apollo would've put me in the work force faster, but if i wanted to get into a np program down the road, i would've had to retake most of those classes because a univeristy won't accept them. when i brought this up in the information(sales) session, the guy tried to brush this off as no big deal and said something about being able to go to the university of phoenix, "no problem". charging the same amount of money in two years on a dead end degree that i'll be spending on my entire undergrad within the university/college system is criminal! examine this institution closely!!!

Biol 189 scares me!
i'm a biology tutor at csn and the two things i always tell my tutees is to record their lectures and get help as soon as they start to feel lost. don't know who that teacher is, but between your teacher, the tutoring center and the other students you're studying with, it's not that hard of a class and you might find it downright enjoyable!!

CSN-Student Nurses Association
yeah... it's too risky to start when i don't know how i'm going to heal. i have very limited range of motion in my radial-ulnar joint. taking notes is difficult and i don't want to re injure it by trying to do too much. i'm a massage therapist so i need to heal properly and get back to work. there are classes i need for my bachelors that i'm taking, so all isn't lost.

CSN-Student Nurses Association
This is good news! I was going to ask about this at the meeting because my broken arm isn't healing fast enough and I am forced to withdraw and start in the spring instead. Even though I won't technically be a nursing student this semester, I still plan on working the community health and fundraising events.

CSN pre-req. question
The 15 min speech at the begining of class on friday was worth the $100 by itself!!

CSN-Student Nurses Association
I thought my fellow csn students would be interested to know that we are now getting academic credit for participation in the csn chapter of NSNA. The board members of our chapter fought very hard for this and it would be great if we were all able to benefit from their hard work. In addition to the obvious benefit of those extra points, this a great way for us to network and build relationships that will benefit both our academic and professional careers. You can find up to date info when you sign into Angel, in the toolbox, the "online groups" link. I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting in August!!!!

RN-BSN in Las Vegas
i'm doing nevada state's rn to bsn when i'm done with my rn at csn. i haven't done any research on touro because it's way out of my price range... especially for an undergrad degree!! i've heard positive things about the program but haven't really critically compared it to anything else since i have no interest in leaving the desert. nv or az is the place for me!!

RN-BSN in Las Vegas
if you want to stay in the area nevada state and touro are your only options right now. nevada state will let you take 9 credits that will also count toward your msn at unlv, so that helps out a little down the road.

HELLLPP! CSN Orientation and professor questions!
it only a couple days of math and they also teach you how to do care plans properly... it's designed to help you be more prepared when school starts
-
Where to get an MSN after NSC
nsc has a relationship with unlv where you can take 9 credits during undergrad that will count toward your msn at unlv

Doctor's without borders
getting international medical experience is important also. i'm going on a volunteer medical trip 2x year, in between semesters while i'm in school because MSF is my ultimate goal... a little harder if you are already working, i know. i also volunteer within my local public health community. anything you can do to show that you are passionate about working with the underserved population will make you more competitive sorry, i don't have first hand experience yet, but i've been basically stalking this organization for a 1.5 years... lol the books that they publish are a great source of info also

HELLLPP! CSN Orientation and professor questions!

CSN Fall 2009 Nursing 1st Semester Questions
are you taking the skills/toolbox class that's going on for the next 3 weeks?
-
TEAS Exam
some more thoughts on the teas.... the book that ATI provides is very helpful. it's usually cheapest on their website ($36.00) but you might get lucky and find it used. any science subjects that you haven't learned, i would familiarize yourself with. i almost didn't pass the science section because of the life science and chemistry portions and something like a "chemistry for dummies" book from library would've improved my score

CSN pre-req. question
I went back at 29 after 12 years of no school, its not as bad as it seems!! They are partially right about the biology, you do want to get started on that... but you might want to take bio 95 first. i am a biology tutor at csn and although it seems like a waste of a semester, if there is chance that 189 will be too hard and you will drop or get a bad grade, taking 95 will set you up for success in your future science classes and end up saving you time in the long run.

HELLLPP! CSN Orientation and professor questions!
I would be interested in sharing a bundle of books, I heard some of them are in already. I started my Nursing Skills class last night and the teacher mentioned it. Also, I broke my arm and will be in a cast for the next 6 weeks so it would be great to have someone learn with as we familiarize ourselves with the program that comes with the books. I looked into the PM... they let you do it after you have 15 posts.. so maybe that feature isn't active on your account yet. I can be reached via my profile. Talk to you soon!

-
CSN Fall 2009 Full-Time RN Applicants
I applied with 21 pts so i will be at the bottom of the list but i'm hopeful with the teas lowering the application #'s. next semester will be for sure cause i'll have the 10 points from 224 but i can't wait to start. i'm doing the phlebotomy program and got to do my clinicals in an e.r. and it's making me even more excited to be an RN.
