May I ask where your taking your refresher course at? And if possible, any links, names, numbers to refresher courses. I am closest to North County. In Alton to be exact. Hopefully there are a few to pick from and Ill be able to do so with driving distance in mind. Thanks
  2. really would like to thank you for your advice. as a matter of fact i was scheduled to interview at a veterans hospital last wednesday. but the person who had said they would work for me.. called in stating her daughter was sick and couldnt work. well, working in a nursing home everyone knows how short staffed they can be. so i had to cancel and go to work instead. going to call as early as i can monday and beg to reschedule. i really do appreciate the advice given. and try to stir it in to the plan of action im developing. :)
  3. id like to thank you for your advice. i really wish i knew.. anything. im in a state of learned helplessness anymore.
  4. many many thanks. it is... soo disheartening, and frustrating. thanks for the well wishes. best of luck to you as well.
  5. :nuke: the name of the recruiter would be great. thanks tons. and also thanks for the sentiment. i hope too. best of luck on the nclex. i know youll do well. the nclex is a messed up exam. i think i knew about five answers for certain, rest were guesses. but i passed first time around. youll do brilliant!
  6. St. John's according to my cousin is an excellent place to work. So far the have yet to give me the time of day. I have the name, number and email of the med/surg nurse recruiter, however. This can be found on their website. The names etc of the recruiters for all the fellowships can be found there though a little digging has to be done. To contact the med/surg recruiter at st. johns in st. louis. Liza Willis 314-251-7921 [email protected]
  7. I have applied at Barnes myself. Spoke to the nursing recruiter today. Stated was still going through all the applications. According to him, the fellowship begins in June. For med/surg that is. The reason Ive applied there is because of the fellowship. Please, its been a long, tough road for me finding a job in a hospital, please cross your fingers, light a candle or pray pray pray for me to be accepted. Hard for me to find a job in a hospital I guess because Ive held two jobs in nine months. The first one, there three months. The preceptor didnt know how to be a human being let alone anything else. The other hospital-had no formal training in place. Sorry, off track. Go for the fellowship and good luck
  8. I am terribly sorry for this happening. I can say, you are not the only person to experience this. But I am very happy you breached this subject as I have almost the same problem to a "T", but I wouldnt have known where to post it. Im nearly two years out of school as well. My first RN position, my preceptor was horrible. The thing is, I didnt know it until another nurse, I described her behavior to, said this is NOT how it should be. I was either always wrong or only partly right. Could go into tons more detail. The second nursing job, was at a small hospital. They had no actual training "program" in place as I was likely the first "hot off the press" RN that had been there since Florence Nightingale. Now, it is whats seems almost impossible for me to get a job in a hospital. I am in the St Louis area and there are plenty of opportunities I suppose. But, typically send in my application but hear nothing. I have gained so little practical knowledge in the time I spent in those hospitals. I guess I may be unemployable. I am going to now have to start looking for large AND growing urban areas who need nurses bad and are willing to take a chance. I should ask this in my own post, but if anyone has any advice please help!!!!!! All the surveys fail to include problems like ours as another reason there is a nursing shortage!!!!!!... HHHHH EEEEE LLLLL PPPP:banghead:
  9. Hello.. im Lance.. im new to the site. but before i worked up my profile and all.. i felt i just had to comment on this. I have had one experience where my preceptor was an "eat their young" type. but the problem is.. learning organization comes difficult for me. The hospitals are just no help in teaching either. Just recently i left a hospital that promised 3 months of training. I had advocated that due to the poor experiences in my two previous locations. The 3 months went to no more than 11/2 months in orientation. Then when on the floor orientating. It suddently went to just 21/2 weeks. The hospitals are not giving time for a new nurse to learn! I'm about to give up on nursing myself. I can really relate to the original post except, at least it seems the place of employ is giving a person time to learn. No wonder there is a nursing shortage! Get the warm body on the floor ASAP. Anyone have any suggestions as to learning organization? Any websites, particular areas of nursing that are good for a relatively new nurse to start out? Any ideas at all would be great. Because Im really about at the end of my rope. I have admitted my weaknesses. But looking for a place that will help overcome that and really really help make me a good nurse.
