  1. Hey Liz0105, there's no fee for the assessment. They'll do a PPD test, blood test, vaccines (Hep B, Varicella, Tetorifice) if you don't already have them, Ishihara color test, and they'll fit you for a N95 mask. Good luck with everything and congrats on getting into the program!
  2. Does anyone know how Chicago area hospitals are about hiring new grads with an Associate's degree? I will graduate from an ASN program in NYC next year, but alot of the hospitals here aren't really hiring any new nurses unless they have a BSN so I was thinking about moving to Chicago as most of my family now lives around there. Thanks for any help and Happy New Year!
  3. So far so good.....lots of reading, but nothing too hard. Though I'm not taking A&P this semester, so I'm sure I have it alot easier then some. Clinical starts on Thursday morning for me though and I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck for that. How's second year going for you? Are you doing Advanced Med-Surg or OB/PEDS this semester?
  4. Anyone else taking Spanish, they just finally sent out the book list. I couldn't find it at any of my local stores so I just ordered it, so hopefully it won't take too long to get here.
  5. So far so good, but like you, I have no idea what's going on with the math class. I started going through the chapters and working on the problems myself, but for the actual assignments on Moodle I think we need to get the CD package thing, so who knows when that will happen. I'm still waiting to hear how to access the computers and also the 5 hour online LSRN thing as well.
  6. Good luck tomorrow everyone! Let the adventure begin!!! :w00t:
  7. There is a PBISN discount section on skyscape and you can get a 25% off discount on some of the products we need.
  8. You can download them right away or you have the option of having them send you the CD-Rom. I just downloaded mine though because that was easiest for me.
  9. Yep, the kit should have some good things to practice with. I already have my stethoscope and a BP cuff that I bought for a CNA course I took because blood pressure was probably the hardest skill we had to master and I wanted to get in some extra practice time. Sounds like you had a really nice trip.....I used to live in Italy so I know how beautiful it is over there!
  10. Yeah...I just received mine this afternoon!
  11. Didn't think there was one, but I wanted to make sure. Oh well.
  12. Do you know if it had a stethoscope in there?
  13. Only just skimmed through the things in the kit, but it had stuff like penlights, foley catheters, injection simulators, etc. I guess mainly things we'll be using in the lab. They're supposed to go over everything with us on the first lab day. Sounds like you had a great summer. Where in Europe did you go?
  14. I think the nursing diagnosis handbook we could purchase as either a textbook or pda version, but I got the pda version as I figured it'd be one less book to carry.
  15. For the PDA we were required to get everything except RNotes, that one was just recommended.
  16. So how was orientation for everyone? Who else is excited to get their little nurse kits tomorrow.
  17. Don't know if there is an expiration for the Skyscape discount because it's through the school, but there is no code for it. They automatically apply the discount during checkout.
  18. Different publisher again, but I would think it would still be it. You can always ask them at orientation if the publisher really matters before making the trip out to the bookstore.

  20. The anatomy and physiology also shows a different publisher so you might want to check with the bookstore first.
  21. I see what you mean about the English book having a different publisher. You should probably check that one out at the NYU bookstore just to be on the safe side. Did they post the books for developmental psych yet? I don't have it on the textbook list I saved to my computer.

  23. Math for meds was the first book I listed, but I didn't order any for the pre-req classes because I already took those at a different school.
  24. Here's the link for the books that I ordered from Amazon. I believe all of the information matches up: Dimensional Analysis for Meds: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401878016 Fundamentals of Nursing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0781781574 Taylor's Video Guide CD-ROM: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0781768136 Essentials of Nursing Leadership: http://www.amazon.com/Essentials-Nursing-Leadership-Management/dp/080361568X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219715958&sr=8-1 Applying Nursing Process: http://www.amazon.com/Applying-Nursing-Process-Critical-Thinking/dp/0781753783/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219716032&sr=1-1 Textbook of Med-Surg (recommended): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0781759781 Fundamentals of Nursing Study Guide (recommended): http://www.amazon.com/Study-Guide-Accompany-Fundamentals-Nursing/dp/0781764076/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b Fundamentals of Nursing Skills Checklist (recommended): http://www.amazon.com/Skill-Checklists-Accompany-Fundamentals-Nursing/dp/0781764068/ref=pd_sim_b_3 For the pda products I bought everything through skyscape.com. I'm not taking any general ed. classes except spanish, which they haven't posted the books for yet, but I'm Amazon would probably have those as well.
  25. Oh, and also for the health assessment, bring documentation of any recent vaccines or PPD test. You will have to do two PPD tests unless you have had a test in the past year and if you've had any recent vaccines, like tetorifice, etc, that will be one less thing you have to do as well.
