  1. My skills sucked, I constantly screwed up med orders, and I had huge, gaping gaps in my knowledge, but I graduated and then passed the NCLEX (because I do very well on tests). So technically, I am an RN, but it's been over a year, and I have done something else as a job mostly because I did not feel I could be a nurse with the skills I had. I really did enjoy working with patients, I just wouldn't trust that they'd be safe with me as a nurse, and most everywhere I looked, the openings seemed to be for acute care or emergency room nursing where I'd be likeliest to do harm. Anyway, so given the gap in time, I am sure most all of my knowledge has eroded... But I did love caring for patients. I know there are training programs for experienced nurses who have been out of the field for a while. Is there anywhere in the country I could go and just get all that nursing knowledge I didn't learn well enough in the first place? (Like repeating RN school for someone who already is a RN?)
  2. Thanks for the advice everyone! ayoung206, during my interview, I was told that everyone from last year's class had already found employment. That's a pretty good stat. Just curious, do you know what health insurance you're getting? How much coverage do we need? I just realized that the school itself doesn't offer any! What a nightmare, having to go through the health insurance nonsense again!
  3. Hey! I got into the Accelerated 2010 cohort, and I'm going! Yay! Anyone have advice about where to live in Columbus? I've never been there, and I haven't driven at all on snow/ice, so I'm a bit uneasy about living too far from campus. (Although I know you have to dirve to campus). Having said that, living on campus wouldn't suit, just because of the room-sharing thing. Anyway, I've been trying to check out Craigslist for housing, but if anyone who goes to the program now and/or lives in Columbus has some advice about good places to get an apartment there, I'd love to hear it.
  4. My goal with nursing would ultimately be to do it around the world. I'm a U.S. citizen, but I'd love the chance to work in relief efforts in various countries, as well as the opportunity to work for a while in Australia, NZ, UK, Ireland... I've been obsessed with Scotland since doing undergrad there and have this idea in the back of my mind that I'd like to immigrate there. All things considered, would it be better to go to nursing school in the UK rather than the US? The ABSN programs I was considering aren't accepted everywhere, and it seems to me like a UK degree is acceptable everywhere.
  5. Hey everyone! So I'm starting pre-requisites now. I'd like to get a 2nd bachelor's and then work as a nurse in the UK for several years at least. My question is this-- what would be the most financially feasible means of doing this? It seems to me like an Accelerated program is the best bet since it would save on tuition and get me out there sooner, but from what I understand, these are unacceptable in the UK. I have a while to plan this; I've just been a bit confused in the research process since there's so much information out there! I just know my goal is to work in the United Kingdom and see if I want to live there, but the route I'd otherwise take (an Accelerated program) seems like it's not possible. Any advice would be appreciated.
