I agree with volitile's previous post in addition: In synaptic transmission, an action potential occurs(involving sodium and potassium in smooth, skeletal and in nerve impulse transmission), that open voltage gated calcium channels, allowing the in-flow of calcium which directly causes neurotransmitter vesicles to undergo exocytosis. Increased ECF calcium will bind to Sodium gates, making it harder for sodium to bind to the sodium voltage gated channel, and create a conformational change that opens the channel, therefore it takes longer for enough sodium influx to reach threshold potential. Increased ECF calcium also raises the threshold potential, again making it harder to create an action potential, but, when an action potential is reached, a greater number of neurotransmitter vesicles are released. This means on the post-ganglionic nerve, more Ach receptor ion channels will open, more sodium can influx and reach a new action potential on that cell more quickly.

Go where it makes sense for you and your family and your finances this will allow you to make the best out of your future... And really, what is an IVY league school these days? Who cares? I went to a top ten undergrad school (from business to law to nursing) that could probably beat out any Ivy league school and would probably get his proposal accepted before even a HArvard student, But I am working along side someone that went to a school I had never even heard of! I am sure the same is true of your future CRNA classmates. Ivy league=more debt and only prestige to those who actually know anything about U Penn... I judge a school by how many points my alma mater football team beats it! Ha Ha! (Harvard would not rate high :) ) I think my skills/personality will get me hired faster that what the school name is on my diploma. Come on nurses! be dependent on yourselves not the name brand! okay, my two cents. Nurses just need to be more confident of themselves and their intelligence. :)

Hmmmm, America is a big bureaucracy, in the military or not, and speaking from experience, I don't think one is worse than the other. Armynrse, a CNS that I work with is AF and will see you over at BAMC in June. good luck to you.

I haven't looked into how I will finance my school yet, but I would definately recommend leaving anything related to retirement and your home alone. You can always get loans, but by tapping into your 401k and IRAs you will be taxed, and you miss out on those years of compound interest/growth (ie free money). If something out of the ordinary should happen to your family, something unexpected, where you would need more money besides what your student loans could give you, then I guess you can use your IRAs/401Ks etc as back up.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone! Well for you who are waiting as alternates, I can let you know that I am declining my seat at TCU.. I have decided to accept acceptance at TWU instead b/c the clinical site they offered me will work out perfectly for me. It is in Bryan,Tx (by college station). Okay, the area surrounding the school makes me a little nervous, I'll probably hang out by TCU! Anybody accepting TWU?:w00t:

It is hard to find much of a comparison between all of the Texas anesthesia schools. But looking around online, i did find that Baylor's length of school is 30 months and UT Houston's is 32 months...(think financial, TWU and TCU length of school is 28 months) These schools also have all of their coursework and clinicals right there in Houston, so this could be a factor for you too, and they also have a significantly smaller class size. All the programs graduate competent CRNAs, I am sure, so deciding where to go could come down to those little factors for you. Continuing to stalk the mailman...have to see it in writing to make it official in my mind!

Anybody up for at least a few tall cold beers after this is over? ONe that doesn't have any initials like ccrn, twu, tcu, gre, of course! :) we may all be sitting next to each other in class, for all we know, might as well get to know each other! my house or yours?:cheers:

I did receive onsite acceptance at TWU, but, I am applying to all 4 of the Texas schools, and would like to go to the one that offers the best clinical site for me, personalized teaching etc. (my husband lives in austin...so that will be a huge factor in my decision, don't want to be too far away if possible!) If all things being equal, I was just curious what makes people choose the school they are going to :) As far as the distance learning at TWU, it was my understanding that you only have to be up in fort worth for 2 weeks a semester, could be wrong!

Just curious, what would make y'all choose TCU vs TWU? Is anybody considering the distance learning option with TWU/or have heard from other students who chose this route? I am wondering how much harder this is instead of being in Fort worth for the first year (however would be great to spend your whole 28 months in one place as far as moving, etc) They said that school is monday/wed/friday at TCU--what is it at TWU? Your opinions are greatly appreciated!! both programs seem so nice/friendly/put together.

I just interviewed at TCU yesterday. It was of course, nerve wracking, but they were very nice. 3 people interviewed me: no clinical questions, but questions regarding my strengths and weakness, my work experience, what I can bring to the table as a person, to this school, etc. Afterward I met with the director for a little while, and then they showed us the grad-dorms, SIM lab, etc. They had snacks too! (okay, i like free food...:) ) the wait begins! good luck to all.

woo hoo! I was accepted at TWU! The interview went great...the clinical questions were not as bad as I thought they were (PEEP--what does it do/happens with too much, blood gases, no medication questions for me, and other random questions) I have an interview at TCU next wednesday, I think I will feel more relaxed at that one. I was accepted to TWU as well!! When was your interview at TWU Transplant GUru?? Mine was the 4th so I am wondering if I saw you there. Congratulations! Are you going to go to the UT interview now that you are accepted at TWU (since it is a month away?)

Hi everyone, Did anybody not get accepted the first time around because of how their interview went? (or do they even disclose why you were not accepted?) In other words, what can make or break you on your interview? As you maybe able to tell, I am quite nervous...they are only a few weeks away! PS did anyone apply to other Texas schools? I applied to UT and Baylor, at Houston. Haven't heard a peep from them. Thanks!

Thanks for the information. That is a weird thing for them to say that you didn't show enough enthusiasm! It is hard when you are nervous, I am sure:) You said that you applied last year? Did you apply again this year? If so, what did you particularly like about UT houston? Have you applied to other Texas Schools (like baylor?) Thanks!

Hey guys, yep, I am new to the forums, too! I have been reading everyone's responses for the past couple months, during this whole application process. I applied for TCU, TWU, Baylor and UT Houston (who I am least impressed with, from the application process standpoint) I have an interview with TWU on the 4th and TCU on the 8th! Haven't heard from the other schools yet. Please share interview tips (now and after your interview!) I am very nervous...
