How much do new nurses make Redding, Ca?? I have been out of school since Dec2008 have not worked since but just recently passed my nclex. I would like to know what the job market is like for nurses in Redding.. thank you!

sounds like some good feedback... I know that it is better to take your nclex earlier but I did not have the opportunity due to some personal issues.. I have friends that have taken thier nclex a nine months to a year later. Its not ideal but hey you work with what you have... I agree that the PC will give me some edge..The PC experience will give me skills that I could maybe never get in a hospital in the US, and vice versa.. so I will give it some more thought.. any more feedback is welcome

Ok, so I graduated with my BSN Dec 08 and I will be taking my Nclex in December. This is my dilemma, I want to join the Peace Corps. I've read previous posts suggesting that I either go for it or wait until I have a year of clinical exp. Mind you in the PC your clinical skills are most often not utilized. I am leaning toward just going for it, part of the reason being b/c there really are not many new nurse positions available these days, most likely b/c of the recession. So im thinking this would be an opportune time to join. Now what I am most concerned with is getting back to the US and not being able to get a job. Is that like a stated fact? Will I be able to get some kind of nursing job when I get back here. I do plan on going back to school for medicine in future but I want still want to be able to make use of my degree, I love nursing. Thanx for your feedback!

Hello everyone, Ok, so I will be graduating in December with my BSN. I have been enamored by traveling nursing since I heard it existed. So here is my dilemma, some seaseoned nurses have suggested that I should do one year of med-surg before I pursue my passion of becoming an L&D nurse, others tell me just go straight into L&D and that I'd be wasting time in med-surg since its not my interest. Now, say I do do med-surg for year, does that mean I have to do another year of L&D before I can become a L&D traveling nurse? I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place because I would like to start traveling right after my first year experience. What is the minimum amount of time these traveling agencies want you to have in a particular specialty before you can become a traveling nurse in that specialty? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

Ok this is the deal.... I am in my last semester of nursing school. I will gradutaing with my BSN. I am 22 y/o and this will be my first degree. I recently have been taking the idea of joining the service seriously but I do not know which branch to choose from. I know for sure that I am not interested in the Army or Marines, so that leaves me with the AF and Navy. I am leaning more towards Navy though. I just want to serve for three years and be out, is this possible? So which should I join? What would it be like for me joining the navy or AF with my circumstances? What is like for a new graduate? Do I get some say as to where I will be stationed either for navy or AF? Specifically for the navy I'v heard that you go to san diego, va, or md. So if I choose San diego will what are the chances of me actually being stationed there? How long will I stay in the at one of the big three's in ref to the navy? What is the pay like? What are the pros and cons of joining as a new grad for both navy/AF? Do I get to choose my specialty? Am I sure to get deployed and if I do what does that mean? Where would I go? How are bonus' dispensed? Do they give a lump sum or is it given gradually? thank you... pls include other info you think will be helpful nelda

I am a New York native and currently in my last year of nursing. I would like to move to Houston upon graduation in Dec 08. I was looking at the St.Lukes and Memorial Hermann internships. St. Lukes wants a 3.0 GPA along with 880 hesi. I would like to know if this Hesi requirement will be held against me since I am a NYC student and we are not obligated to take this test. In fact it has altogether been banned here. Also on another note.. Do all hospitals require job applicants to take a med math exam? Thanks everyone Nel
