Flu shots
Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a website with this information available?

Flu shots
That is what bothers me. We are not longer being given the choice.

Flu shots
Thank you for your response. Are you an infection control nurse? We are being threatened with disciplinary action if we do not receive the shot.

Flu shots
Anyone else hear of the Joint Commission mandate that all employees in their accredited facilities get flu shots? It is not an option to decline unless there is some documented medical reason not to receive the vaccine.

Nat'l Data Base of Nursing Quality Indicators
So, no one has had any experience taking this survey?

Nat'l Data Base of Nursing Quality Indicators
Just curious as to how many of your facilities have participated in the NDNQI survey. My facility is seeking magnet status and all the RNs are being asked to fill out an on-line survey. This is part of the 'journey' to magnet status. We are told that the survey is completely anonymous and confidential. Somehow, I am a little skeptical and would really appreciate feedback from anyone who has had any experience with this survey. Thanks!

Are magnet hospitals really better?
Thanks for your response. My hospital is in the early stages of seeking magnet status. We are being told this will be better for us and raise the awareness and status of nursing in our community. We are told that nurses want to work at magnet hospitals, hence the term magnet. So is it more of a PR magnet to attract more patients, rather than attracting nurses to work? We are told that Magnet hospitals have better patient care. I think that our patient care is excellent already. I know there is always room for improvement, but are we going to be trying to fix things that aren't broken. I would like to hear more from others.

What's your holiday bonus?
We got gift cards to local grocery stores. The amounts were based on the number of hours worked during the year. Mine was for $100.00. That is the most generous the facility has been in a long time. We also have a very nice Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner every year.

? about Fentanyl
I just recerted for ACLS and Morphine is still the drug of choice, after NTG, for cardiac pain. We use PCA Fentanyl on my unit for postop pain sometimes, like when a patient is allergic to Morphine. And the patches are good for chronic and cancer pain.

"Lean" Health Care????
I had never heard of it until recently either. Theoretically, it does sound like there could be benefits for both patients and care givers. I know that the principles have been adapted to the medical setting, but I guess I am just leery of something that was originally designed for business/manufacturing. And I remember a few years back when we were told to conduct customer service like Disney. I try to stay positive about change, But I do have a gut feeling that this is all about the bottom line and could end up meaning more work for us.

"Lean" Health Care????
Did special trainers come in to your facility to trained? Or did they send certain ones to a seminar to be trained? Or did they fly by the seats of their pants, which is what I think is going to happen where I am. And did they make the nurses all wear pedometers to prove to cut in steps? LOL! Thanks for the reply>

"Lean" Health Care????
Hi everyone! Has anyone here heard of the concept of Lean Health Care? Are any of your hospitals in to this? What has been some of your experiences with the process? Does it work? My understanding is that this is the term for a new approach to performance/process improvement. I keep hearing about it at my facility and understand it is what we are going be going to in the near future. I have found some information on the net about it, but was just wanting to hear from anyone with first hand experience. Deb
