  1. Shellski75- thank you so much for your reply! It was very helpful. Good to know it sounds like very normal, busy people in your program! I get the feeling that St. Kate's tries to make it doable for working people. When do you start your job search? What area are you thinking of? Has it changed with your clinical experience? If there is anything else you think would be important to share with us, we would appreciate it!
  2. I am SO grateful for all of the success stories! While I was applying, I was looking at my college transcripts (graduated with a 3.3) and realized that college wasn't that hard and why didn't I study and work a little harder then? I am excited to go back as an adult because I know it will be so much more meaningful. I can only imagine I will do better. Of my 3 kids, I have twins that are 10 months old. I guess that is a big part of my worry becuase we are still very much in the "thick" of things. Worrying if they will sleep through the night, etc...Even though I work full-time, THEY are also a full-time job! We do have great support, though. Sometimes I think I am so stupid for trying to take this on, but know if I don't now, I will regret it later. You are all a great inspiration for someone who is just embarking on this journey. Thanks for sharing your stories!
  3. No, no, I don't think I am old. I was just wondering how hard it was to get your brain back in shape after 10 years of not studying! I give everyone credit for going for it....no matter what age! I figure I have 20+ years of working left and although, I truly enjoy teaching, there is plenty of time in my life for another career I would enjoy.
  4. I totally had to while I was reading these last posts! Yes, while I was in college, I am sure I was busier thinking of the cute boy sitting next to me or where happy hour was that night vs. the class that I was in! I can only imagine that I would be more focused now! Keep the stories coming!
  5. I want to thank all of you that responded. I have hope!!! It is so good to hear from others that they have done it! I especially like hearing that as an adult you have a different appreciation for school now versus as an undergrad. I think I will be the same way. Also, thanks for those who responded who have young children. I hesitated to include that because I didn't want people to read that and think, "this woman is crazy"! I have a tendency to bite of more than I can chew and I need to be careful of that. Good to hear that it is manageable. Now, I just have to wait to hear. But, if I don't get in to the post-bacc program...I am moving on to plan B. Not going to give up that easy! Thanks!
  6. Ok, so I am waiting to hear if I am accepted into a post-Bacc program for next fall. If accepted, I will be 34 when I start. I would like to hear from those who went back to school. I will be over 10 years out of college. Was it SO hard to go back to the study-mode? I am hoping that going back as an adult will be different and I will be able to study more efficiently. I have been working as a teacher for 10 years. That is using my brain in a much different way. I guess I am just scared that it is going to be so hard to go back to being a student. I did complete my Masters few years ago, but that wasn't so hard. Just want to hear from those who have gone back and what your experience has been! oh, I am also married with 3 kids 5 and under. I know I must sound crazy, but I really want this.
  7. Maxxineo- I am so glad that you posted! Toots and I have been wondering about the St. Kate's program for a while now! Sorry to throw a lot of questions at you and I would appreciate anything you have to offer! I applied for the Post-Bacc program for Fall '08. 1. do you have any idea of the emphasis of acceptance? GPA? Pre-Req's? Essays? Work/Life experience? I graduated with a 3.3 GPA but know that going back to school as an adult would be a totally different deal. I hope my GPA isn't too low. 2. I have a 4 year old and twins that are 10 months. Before anyone says I am crazy, I have a great husband, mother and mother-in -law to help. How much (on average) study time did you need each day? 3. I would also need to work, but thinking of going part time to be done by noon each day. Would I HAVE to do that to make it manageable? Or did others seem to make it work? 4. I have been out of school for 8 years. Was it hard for you to go back? How long were you out of school? 5. What was the age range of your classmates? I am 33 and feel ancient compared to "newbies". any insight would be great and, again, sorry for all the questions, I am just so excited to hear from someone who has been though the program!
  8. Toots- I have about half of the pre-req's to transfer. I need to take all the science related courses. App deadline isn't until the end of this month and applicants won't know until July. Are you still considering applying? Have you done the essays and app yet?
  9. Toots- yes, I have applied. St. Kate's was the only school that really fit my needs. I need to go eve/weekend. I will need to continue to work. I wish I could JUST go to school, but not an option for us. I am nervous because I will work, have a husband and 3 kids four and under. I sound crazy when I write it out! BUT, that is all assuming I get in. That is the first hurdle I have to cross! I went to the info night as well. I would really like to know from someone who has been down this path what they thought of the coursework. I would love to have an idea of how much time (outside of class) I would have to set aside for homework/studying??????
  10. Toots- did you apply to the St. Kate's program for next fall? I am interested in hearing any responses to your post as well.
  11. Why do you say that? Do you have any experiences with St. Kate's or do you just recommend the other two over St. Kate's? Thanks!
  12. Hi- I was wondering if anyone is participating or has particpated in St. Kate's post-bacc BSN evening/weekend program? I am going to apply for next year's program and would like to hear what other's experiences have been. As far as applying, they said that you don't have to have the pre-req's completed and minimum GPA is 2.6. Other than that, what do you think they are looking for in a "desirable" candidate? I know so many people apply and I would like to know what they look for since I am sure most people meet the GPA requirement. Thanks in advance!
  13. Lemay320- ok, sounds like a different program! I panicked all of a sudden that I was totally behind the 8 ball! I have not sent in my app yet. I am waiting to hear from my undergrad school and what pre-req's will transfer. I also have to write my essays. I really want to take my time and put everything in there that I want. OH, and you aren't old! I saw your age and I am only 1 year behind you! I feel old too going back to school. I wish when I was in college I had the same desire that I have now! I feel that if I am accepted, I will put so much energy into my coursework and get good grades. Do you have a previous bachelor's degree? If so, in what? I have been teaching for the past 10 years and want so badly to become a nurse. I love teaching, but have always wanted to be a nurse. Thanks for your reply and I am sure I will have many more q's for you!
  14. Lemay320- I am interested in the evening/weekend post-bacc program at St. Kate's. I am going to appy for Sept. '08. Is that what you applied for? The deadline for registration is Jan 08. Did you get accepted for that? If so, I didn't know they would send acceptance letters already. If I am wrong on the program you applied for, I am sorry. Congrats on your acceptance! Can you or anyone else share what they feel a "qualified" or "desirable" candidate would have? How much weight is put on grades? Essays? Thanks in advance for any info!
