UTMB Summer '09 Applicants
I'm sorry you are going elsewhere. I know its been frustrating but to be honest they all seem that way to me. I think they get overwhelmed by all the applications, phone calls and emails because everyone wants in and they only have so many spots. I thought the same of UT-Houston because they tell you one thing in the information session and base their decisions on something else. I think with the hurricane that just made UTMB's situation that much more difficult to work around. I hope you success in wherever you decide to go. I have been trying for two years to satisfy all the requirements for different school and I'm taking this chance because I think it will get worse in terms of getting in anywhere.

So Bazooka do you think we will here anything this week if we are in or not? The two women that interviewed me said first week of April. I finally got my rejection letter from UTHSC-Houston. Not surprised. Net score too low to compete and didn't take it over like I should have.

UTMB Summer 2009
Just curious how the Spring 2009 at UTMB is going? Do you like the schedule and are you able to do your clinicals close to home? I applied for Summer 2009 program and they said they would let us know by end of March being of April and program starts May 4. So I will have a month to quit my job but I have to find someone first, train them then I can leave. ARe your books expensive?

UTMB RN-BSN students or alumni
Hey Paulpular83, I'm just curious; what was your first semester schedule at UTMB? Someone told me you only go to class about 3 days a week then you have 2 days of clinicals off campus but your first semster you don't do clinicals until about the 5th week. How close is that from reality?

I don't know how I got sooo lucky and had two people interviewing me. I can't even remember their names because I was soo busy as we were walking to their office thinking OK when you are meeting with two people don't just look at one person the whole time bring both of them in on your conversation. YIKES!! I think it went OK. I just remember one question "So do you have backup plans in case you don't get into the program?" WHAT NOT GET IN?? All I could think of in my head was "Please don't do that to me, please give me a chance". Some other questions I remember are: What are your strong attributes? What are your weak attributes? Do you have a support system and if so who are they? What was your most stressful situation and how did you handle it? After I was done, the two ladies escorted me back to the meeting room and said I could sit and enjoy continental breakfast they provided so I did and that's when I met & started talking to some other women that were interviewers. One told me that they were interviewing about 40 people but they were going to call more in for interview at a later date and that they were going to take a total of 60 people. She said they still had applications to review. So there is for sure hope for those that didn't get interviews yet. Well I guess we will wait and see what happens from here. Hey Bazooka, what is the schedule for the first semester? You said 14 hours. One of the ladies interviewing me said that our first semester would probably be Monday-8:30 to 4:30 then Tues: 1-2 hours then either Wed or Thurs would be lab on campus then you would do your clinicals at whatever hospital they assign you. She said not too many clinical positons are available on the island so those that live on the island would probably get those first then everyone else would get other hospitals either in Clear Lake, medical center, st. joseph and she named other hospitals I havent even heard of.

Hey Bazooka, since your interview is at 2:30 and mine is at 11:30 do you want to try and meet up somewhere around 12:00-12:30?? I think interviews are suppose to last 30 minutes each. There's an open area with sitting when you first walk in the nursing building, or at least back in July there was. My email at work is [email protected] if your interested or anyone else interested in meeting up.

Wonderful, I received mine too. Looking forward to seeing what Galveston looks like compared to when I went to information session back in July 2008 before IKE. Good Luck to everyone on their interviews. Hopefully we will be able to see each other on a regular basis in the near future.

Hey Bazooka, did you read all the postings from the UTHSC-Houston's thread about them receiving over 1000 applications for their Fall program and interviewing 400 of them for only having 60 spots. I'm am happy we have interview with UTMB. I just don't think I could compete with that kind of pool.

I haven't either so I emailed ***** but got a auto reply saying she's out today for Career Fair and will return Monday. When I spoke to JoAnn on Tuesday she said it would be in the nursing office but I would receive an email giving me room number. Oh well I'll wait until Monday. I'm getting very excited.

AWESOME....Congratulations Bazooka. What a relief you must feel. Some things are meant to be. Good luck to everyone during the interview process. I thought it was great that someone shared their questions they had during their interview at UTMB which were helpful. But after thinking about it I better not try and reheorifice anything because for sure I'll screw it up. I'll just speak from my heart and see what comes out.

Bazooka and OnlyOnE11288 dont give up hope. It can really drive you crazy having to jump through all the hoops for different nursing schools only to be turned down before you get a chance to show them who YOU are and not just a student ID number. Another downside to that is you never know why so you can improve whatever they saw on a piece of paper. Keep your head up and keep pushing forward to your goal. Even though I received rejection letters, I kept retaking classes to better my GPA. Someone said in an earlier post that you can only retake 2 classes. Well I've retaken A&P I, Nutrition, English, World History and Pathophysiology so I don't see that being true. Of course I just have an interview not an acceptance letter yet but I can't believe that would be held against you. Trust me If people knew what I've been through to get to this point I know they would have given up long ago. I always say to myself PUSH. Pray Until Something Happens. You never know whats around the next corner. That interview will come just be patient.

I was just getting off the elevator when my cell phone went off but missed the call. I sat down at my desk and looked up the number that called and it was a 409 number. I thought I don't know anyone from a 409 number so I went online and looked up the number and it was registered to UTMB. I immediately started calling it but no one answered. About ten minutes later I got a call on my office number and it was the admissions office. I was so excited I forgot to write the lady's name down. She asked me what class I was taking at SanJac and I told her Pathophysiology and she said so you have your exam May 6th and I said yes. Then she ask if I would like to come in for an interview March 13th and I said I would love to. We talked about Galveston's hardship after IKE for a moment then that was it. she said someone would call me later with an interview time. I went online but my file still shows pending.

Applying to two programs - one is a bachelors and the other is an associates dgree.
I feel your frustration. I'm in the same boat pretty much. I've got all these credits to get in to BSN programs but they are soooo competitive that I'm also applying to the ADN program at a local college just to be able to move forward. I have wasted a whole year because last year I was turned down from two BSN program because my NET score wasn't high enough. Even though I had at the time a 3.5 GPA. Now I've taken two classes over and its 3.7 and science GPA is 4.0 soooo I'm hoping I have a shot at getting into two BSN programs that I've applied to. One starts in May and the other is Fall 2009. But if all else fails I'm not waiting another year to start nursing so I've applied to ADN program that starts Fall 2009 as backup. I will hate the idea of having to go that direction because that just means more time and more money to ultimately get my BSN but at least I'll be able to get my foot in the door with ADN. Hang in there. If you want it bad enough you will look back at hopefully say it was worth it.

WOW nice GPA. I was also told March 13th would be the day for interviews and that this week or next would be the period in which emails go out for interviews. I've been checking my email non stop. Good Luck to everyone.

Wow I keep checking my email but am getting much anxiety because nothing yet. I live in West Houston and am in the process of selling my house but I'm hoping that I won't sell it until I know something with UTMB because that will depend on where I live. Is anyone planning on commuting from Houston if they get in?

Thank you AznPlayR99 for the info. I have also applied to Fall 2009 UTHSCH program but I think my chances are very slim because I was told when I went to the information session that they look to see that you have taken NET and do not care about the score so I was taking a full load at the time and didn't think I needed to study for it. However, later I was told by someone else that you need a score of at least 70 or above. My GPA is 3.65 for nursing pre-reqs and 4.0 for science but was told that it wasn't likely I would get an interview because of the NET score but to remain hopeful because you never know. I was pretty upset because I've already missed the date to retake the NET. I guess that's why you just have to keep asking the same question to different people and decide for yourself what is correct. I'm hopeful for UTMB and have also applied to the ADN program at HCC as an absolute backup. Good luck at UTSA's nursing program in San Antonio.
