  1. My devotion lies solely to the 8 yr/o MD pt. Any action against the parent will devastate the pt. I think the parent is under so much social scrutiny that he is on the verge of collapsing mentally as a result of trying to meet his own and his family's demands. Quite possibly he is more than ready for some education on how to handle situations that baffle him. At this point the only way it seems he can respond to many situations is to be the loudest, because the loudest is always the best. I would like to educate him, instead of just saying it, about how his son wants and needs his personal care to be done by his dad whenever he is at home. Thanks for the direction to go. I think it can be done. gingersdad
  2. Any one online that's in HH and currently dealing with some pt family issues? Parenting probs. I need some ethical advice such as when to intervene when the approach/actions toward the patient by the family is considered too aggressive. This is probably not the place to discuss this topic but my alternatives are few.
  3. I get the message. We think she missed the noon meal, not sure because she has a bit of dementia. The FSBS was 236+4 hours later and the resident was feeling much better. Thank you for the "straight up" answer. gingersdad:yeah:
  4. Hey there folks I need some help on how to handle an issue I had today with a CNA. A resident in my care had a FSBS of 46, was clammy, lethargic, and had that "far away" look we are so familiar with. I immediately gave her 15g of Glutose15 and followed with an Ensure ~10min later. I left the room to attend other duties but a CNA stayed to keep the resident awake and alert. After I left the room ANOTHER CNA came into the room and administered 240cc of OJ loaded w/ 3 packets of sugar. The FSBS came up OK but I have an issue with the CNA giving the OJ+sugar w/o me knowing about it. I informed my manager and the DON about the situation but am wondering how hard I should be about the action of the CNA. I'm a male nurse and I try to tread lightly but keep my license. FYI: The resident did not "yoyo" on her blood sugars. gingersdad
  5. There's a pretty simple solution to the question about salary drops; DO NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY. Next time you see her on camera, look into her eyes. [evil]There is no feeling in her eyes.[/evil] I'm not against a female president, I'm just against Hillary Clinton. Connie will, or should, be the first female president. gingersdad
  6. I work LTC & Assisted and the saddest, most heartbreaking thing for me is to watch a family member, visits 1-2x/yr, be the most discontent of the care the res is getting. I worked in construction for years and at that time I want to revert say, "go back to the toilet where you came from. Burns my grits!!:angryfire
  7. Or how about "That's the way we've always done it", "that's what the bookk says"
  8. What part of "only 1 mg Ativan" is it that you don't understand?
