  1. Show Bedside Nurses the Money

Jadednurse, I agree with some of your comments- especially the doctor's food budget. But, I just wonder how much the pay increase would really help. For the short term it would be great. I don't know where the money would come from. Our hospital is...

  3. What to expect on the first day...

Well, I enjoyed all the entertainment of practicing procedures on dummies (you know how realistic they are- talking, moving just like a person, etc.). haha. You have to admit it is human to be nervous and giddy when first starting out with procedure...
  4. Renal dose Dopamine question.

I have been amazed that the knowledge related to dopamine has been known for some time. But, the ancient doctors hold onto it anyway! I don't understand, if I was a nephrologist, why would I continue to do something I know isn't helpful. It is very f...
  5. More Strange Baby Names

I almost forgot! My grandmother-in-law is Pearl, she has sisters named: Ruby, Goldie, and Opal. What if her parents would have had a boy? Silver? Ha Ha...but it does make you wonder PS- I think Kendall is neat! When I have children I won't be very a...
  6. More Strange Baby Names

  7. Bad news...

I am in shock! With the shortage you would think they would be begging as many people as possible! I have been a RN for 4 years and what I hear from students, new nurses, etc. is many schools are recruiting like crazy and offering all these lucrative...

Staff has been stressed alot at work lately- I am printing it out and bringing it in today! Thank you ahead of time from all of us-- I know they will enjoy it. May everyone have a blessed day!!!!!!
  9. What's your protocol??

We make offers right away, too. I would recommend following up and if one hospital sounds really lucrative- keep calling them. HR can be a nightmare. On our unit, we don't always get potential applications- lord knows why (probably lost in space). If...
  10. Interview in Telemetry...please help.

Okay, your interview is now long over- if you are still interested, I work Tele in STL, MO We are a 44 bed unit and we have a great n-p ratio. Days starts 3:1 and nocs start 5:1. Usually stays right around there, too. I love cardiac. Fast paced but ...
  11. Young Patients

On the other hand, I feel more confident taking care of them. I am in my late 20's and honestly, I don't know what it feels like to be 70 or 80! On the rare occasion that I get a 30-something, at least I can relate to them and know where they are com...
  12. Anxiety and low self-esteem

Sounds like you are a nurse to me!! Although you could use an outlet for your stress and EAP was a wonderful suggestion. I have had long standing anxiety problems and never saw a professional about it (probably should have). I am kind of a control f...
  13. Care Plans, Care Plans, Care Plans...

Thank you for your advice. We did start a committee!
  14. Care Plans, Care Plans, Care Plans...

I just recently started an asst. manager position on a Telemetry floor. We have also recently had a visit from State. Seems our Care Plans are not individualized enough. Right now we use hospital made care plans for various illnesses/situations, (e.g...

  22. Acls

I admit I felt overwhelmed the first time I took ACLS, but I agree with the others-- Your best bet is to read and memorize. You will do fine- don't let them intimidate you.
  23. help please!

Been out of school for a while, but here is a real situation- Prisoner is admitted to ICU, not looking good. We are trying to figure his code status. Of course he is unresponsive, so do we go by the Prisoner's family or the State Institution's wishes...
  24. Nurses week Cheap gifts from admin.

Normally my hospital is great- but for Nurses Week--everyone gets something. It makes the nurses feel even less appreciated. I mean, can't we have at least 1 day where we get recognized for all the hard work we do?! Why should secretaries and housek...
  25. so sad..

I am sorry to hear of your woes. It is a shame you don't live in St.Louis. My hospital, well my Tele floor, has a highest ratio 4:1 on days and 5:1 on eve/noc. We are very flexible with scheduling and get double time for any extra weekend shift (we ...
