  1. Hey! sorry hope this doesnt reach you too late. Yes, calculators are allowed. No study guide, but they give you website where you can review for the math part. and sample questions. Pm me for more info.
  2. Hi Alem! Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with my move. Have you been working in any hospitals now? I applied for a few i only got called by one. Well hope to hear from you soon. And goodluck!
  3. Hi guys! Hope to find some help here. Ill be taking the pharm exam for NYP Columbia this thursday. Any inputs? Ive been reading discussions about it, but they were old and what theyre talking about is a complete opposite of what i was told. Is it true that they give u a list of drugs to study? They only gave me like 5 sample questions, and 5 other websites for dosage calculations. Anyone took the test recently? How was it? I dont want to worry too much but they talk about NYP (cornell or columbia) pharm exam very widely on the forums. So im starting to feel a little nervous myself. Anyways, hope to find sone helpful response.
  4. Hi guys! Im moving back to NYC from Los Angeles this July. Started applying couple weeks ago, but havnt really heard from anyone. Starting to scare the hell out of me. Can anyone please tell me the hiring situation there right now. I have 3 years experience, currently a CTICU nurse for 1 year and a half, 1 year PACU experience and 6 months in a tele unit. Im planning to stay in the CTICU/CSICU. Any hospitals in the city that are actively hiring right now? or they prefer applicants that are already in NYC? Im triying to persue NYP, but havnt heard from them, and the position is gone already. Is the market for nursing in NYC as tough as it is here in Cali??? Your feed back will really be appreciated. thanks.

  6. hi there! thanks for the info. where in LA do you work if you dont mind me asking. yeah, i was thinking of applying at NYP colombia, thats a good thing to hear. when are you planning to move back?
  7. ohh.. is that a standard in all hospital? what hospital do you work? if you dont mind me asking. Here if its really critical we only have one, those ready for transfer or if they are chronic then we get 2. 3-4 patient's is for our step down units. i guess i have to suck it all up if i really want to move there huh?
  8. How about in the ICU's? you guys have any idea whats the RN-patient ratio? I came from Florida but currently living in Los Angeles and we only get 1 or 2 patients. Im thinking of moving to NYC, but im a little scared of how much patient's will i get there.
  9. thanks steve. i see your an NP student. can i ask which hospital are you working at? hows the staffing of the units? Im in a cardiothoracic surgery ICU. any ideas? thanks.
  10. hi there. thanks for the input. do you mind if i ask which hospital are you working at? do you work in critical care too? hows the staffing?
  11. I really dont care about the weather, i lived in NJ so im pretty much used to cold weather. But i want to know the job satisfaaction in NYC compare to Southern CA. I work in a teaching hospital, so i want to know inputs from people working in teaching hospitals in NYC. Or those who have tried L.A. and NYC, which working conditions are you most satisfied. I love NYC, but hows the pay, the working condition, is it worth moving back?
  12. yeah, go and move down to FL, so you can get your degree. Im from FL, the panhandle area, the only thing ive noticed is that schooling there is more expensive than it is here in southern CA. I dont know the reason why. I dont know how much it is up there in sacramento, but as i remember when i still live in FL, it was $70/credit if your a resident and up to 3x more if your out of state. im not sure how much it is now. And i dont know how much is the schooling in the orlando area. but if you can get your degree faster i dont think thatll be an issue, right?
  13. Hello NYC!!! I posted a thread about a year ago asking for inputs if i should choose Los Angeles, over NYC. But since ive never lived in the west coast before, i chose L.A. Its not bad, and im starting to like it. But i miss the east coast very much and want to move back. But i was reading the other posts and I've noticed that NYC hospitals only pay like 68000/year? is that for real? with the high cost of living??? and hows the staffing?? i work as a CTICU nurse in a level 1, trauma hospital in LA. we only get 1 or 2 patients at a time and the pay is more than 68000/year. Anyways, i just wanted to know which is the best teaching hospital in the city, hows the staffing and the pay. Is it worth moving back??? hope to hear from you guys soon. thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
  14. theres a lot of hospital here that pays OT after 8hours. thats sad mimi, i guess you guys are not better compensated in your hosptial. maybe you are represented by a union???
  15. it really does sounds expensive.. now I want to change my mind and go to LA instead.. but is it worth it.. it sounds like all of your salary is going to the apt and other stuffs.. but do you guys think i'll be able to save a lot too?? thats just my concern.. is the salary in NYC i think its 68K, competetive with the cost of living?

so are they doing something? you see if they want to staff the hospitals they can.. look at california. they do follow strict standards.. and they find ways to staff them.. get travelers, offer bonuses, and just the thought that they work in a safe environment really attracts nurses.. by the way, my employer in NYC did not give me any relocation allowances or any bonuses.. is it like that up there? because the one in CA is offering me a relocation.. I just love NYC thats why I chose NY.
  17. washington heights?? thats in uptown manhattan right? is it nic up there? is not dangerous to live there???? ok let increase my monthly pay to 1500.. am i going to be able to find an apt in bklyn (downtown), how about park slope do you know the prices on that area? or somewhere in manhattan,, that'll be great.. thanks for your help..

  19. dmaster replied to dmaster's topic in New York Nursing
I know, I like it down here in florida but yeah, its not the best place to be a nurse.. well,, i tried to get rid of my car down here, but i dont have much time.. im leaving in a couple of days.. so i'll probably bring it with me.. im planning to live in brooklyn.. do you know a nice affordable neighborhood there? i want to live in downtown brooklyn, like DUMBO, bklyn heights, park slope.. is there like 1000 or less apt there with a parking space?

thanks for the info cammy.. can I asked which hospital do you work in New york City???? is it a good hospital? hows the work environment..
  21. yeah,, i graduated from a foreign school. and applied endorsement in california.. it took them 2 weeks for my temporary license, and another 2 weeks for the permanent one.. it wasnt that long.. are you sure your requirements are complete?
  22. dmaster posted a topic in New York Nursing
I was reading one of the topics here,, i read one mentioning that they have 9-11 patient/nurse??? is that true??? thats a whole lot!! how is the staffing in NYC? isnt there like a law that limits patient nurse ratio?? what if you work in the critical care? whats the patient ratio??? 9-11 patient.. thats not safe at all..
  23. hey guys, my dilema has come to an end. I chose NYC over L.A. due to a lot of reason, I got a lot of support system in the north east area. and I love NYC.. anyways, I know some of you told me to get rid of my car, I tried.. but the dealer thinks Im stupid enough give my car for an insanely low price he's offering. dont have time to sell it down here coz in leaving next week. so i'm bringing my car with me, and try to sell it up there or keep it, which ever.. but for now, I need to find an apartment that has a parking space. not on the streets. im thinking of living in brooklyn (downtown). wheres the nicest and safest place there? my budget for an apartment will be like $1000/month. can I find a nice place, nice neighborhood with a parking space with that amount? how much does it cost to live in brooklyn heights, DUMBO, park slope??? hope to hear from you guys soon. thanks a lot. ciao!!!
