  1. yes, 25 is indeed young. I started my pre -reqs when i was 25 i am now 28, have finally finished my pre reqs (i decided to take time off from school until my kids were older) and now i start the nursing program at my community college in August. I will be 30 when i graduate. so trust me, 25 to finish is definately young. At the rate I am going i will be 35 by the time i finally become a nurse prac.... if i am lucky. On the plus side, i still feel 18, so i can keep up with them and i have the experience and maturity of an extra 10 years
  2. I'm working on classes for my BSN while i wait for the ADN program to start
  3. Hi, I had the same decision you have, move back with my parents and lose my autonomy so i can go to nursing school or stay on my own and struggle to do it all myself, the only difference is that i have a husband and four kids with me and the reason we decided to move back in with my parents is so my husband could take a cut in his pay and work more normal hours to help with the kids and chores and so my parents could help with the kids as well, that way i don't have to get a job and try to go through nursing school. It is a tough decision and it takes a lot of adjustment, but now is the time to follow your dream and education when you don't have anyone else to support or feed. If you don't you may end up in my situation (i was 18 and just out of highschool when i got married, it has taken me 8 years and a lot of struggling to get back into school) if your fiancee can't support you in your choice then that is his problem because what you are doing will make both of your lives better.
  4. Thank you so much. Please do keep me informed it is a really big help! :)
  5. Thank you very much, that is all very useful!
  6. I was curious what to expect in my first semester, what should i brush up on from A&P and micro. and what books helped others prepare for the valencia program? Also, did anyone find getting a PDA useful? I want to be as prepared as possible when i start the program, that way i won't fall behind or struggle much more than i have to, so any advice is welcome. Thanks!
  7. I'm 27 and have four kids ages 9, 7, 6, and 1 1/2. I took classes nights and weekends and online as much as possible for my pre reqs and I start my nursing program in august, luckily my baby has prepared me for sleep deprivation as he rarely sleeps for long periods of time and will sometimes wake up at 3 am and be up until his afternoon nap time. As far as waking up so early, drink coffee, lots and lots of coffee and take a leukwarm shower in the morning, not too hot so you don't get sleepy again. Getting up early isn't a challenge it's just something that has to be done to reach your goal, you'll learn to adjust. I suggest you start getting up early now so your body can adjust and your schoolwork won't suffer.
  8. congratulations to all of you! I get to start in August and the wait is killing me, i'm glad yours is over! good luck!!
  9. Valencia Community College has a good nursing program, you'll have about 8 pre-reqs to do before you can apply for the nursing program, i'm finishing my pre reqs right now and they're not too bad, i don't know how hard the nursing courses are, but the form explaini ng the courses say that once you enter the nursing track you must be dedicated to the hours and courses in order to succeed. Also, you must have at least a C in all the pre req courses and at least a 2.5 gpa as well as pass your physical, have cpr training, and pass the nursing entrance test. Valencia has a website that explains everything in detail.
