Dizern: If you go in to the nursing tutor go under documents and you will find the independent study guide for the dosage calc book. There is one for dosage calc and one for IV calc and one for medical terminology.

The videos are under the information link in the tutor. Click on information on the left and then you'll see them. They will take forever to load so be patient. Personally, I did not find them to be too helpful but I watched them after I had already read everything so that may be why. The book is really clear and easy to understand but the videos do reinforce it.

You need the book! Until you can get it though, watch the vidoes in the information section of the tutor. It will just make a lot more sense to you with the book. However, I just completed all dosage calc, got a 100 on the practice exam and di it all in under 2 weeks so just get the book as soon as you can and then bust through it. The Ped. part was the only thing a little tricky but even that wasn't bad if you just focus. The rest was a piece of cake!

FloridaRN2be- I am so sorry about your sister! I will keep her in my prayers and put her on my prayer chain at church. If it helps at all, my exhusband (not the soon to be, a different one) battled Hodgkins stage 4 and he is fine now. It took about a year too but that is one of the most curable forms so please keep that in mind. She can pull through this and will. Positive thoughts - positive outcomes! We are with you!

I meant "and all you girls" Not all of Brian's girls!
  6. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
Ok guys. This will not be a pity party for me. I am 40 years old. I can handle anything that comes my way. I got in to this program with 226 points while dealing with three children, one of which is a 16 year old girl (can you say VALIUM) and one of which is homeschooled. My pain in the ... husband is not going to take this from me and honestly I don't think that is his intentions. It has been rough for a while but the funny thing is that after his call I thought to myself, better now than 2 weeks from now and realized the only thing I was ****** off about was the fact that this was interfering with chapter 13 in dosage calc! Which by the way is kinda hard. Anyway, now the tables have turned and he says he didn't mean it but I think I do. Like Jenn posted, no extra drama is needed and I am pushing this situation to the back of my life. Whatever happens, my only concern at this moment is pediatric dosages and body weight calculations and I will worry about this elephant "one bite at a time"! You guys are amazing and we are all going to have crap come up to distract us. More so because we will have alot on us so what normally wouldn't be a problem will seem like one. But real problems, divorces, kids, dealing with illness, being accepted to a clinical site, are challenges that we as "nurses", and I mean as nurses, because we have to tell ourselves that's what we are, can face and deal with! I love you guys (that's for you Brian) and all your girls! We are all amazing, fantastic people and since I am older than anyone else on here, you have to listen to your elders (haha)! We will laugh and pray and cry our way through to the end!!!!!!!!!!

So guys, here's one for you. I get up this morning, go have breakfast with my best friend, bragging about all I have left to do is chapter 13 in dosage calc and get a call from my husband while he is at work to tell me, long story short, that he is moving out! How the F am I suppose to deal with all this 2 weeks before school?
  8. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
Kjl221 is right. The enroll button is to the right on the screen that says nursing tutor. Don't click nursing tutor first. Look for the enroll button and click that.

Why do you think I married someone with the last name "Like"!
  10. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
I am getting the same thing in the BB comm. No nursing advisor stuff!
  11. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
I guess I am going to nursing school! I'm registered! Anyone find the handbook? I don't even see an "nursing advisor" section in the BB community.
  12. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
So, I went to register this morning and it says I'm not admitted in to the program and can't. Anyone else have this problem? I knew registration couldn't be this easy.

It was great to meet a lot of you guys. Melanie....your a trip!!!!! I would love to have had class with you. You were cracking me up. I got section 4. It was my 4th choice and I had #103. Oh well, it's all good. I just feel like my head is still spinning from all that info. At least we can all plan our lives out now for the next couple of months. Dizern..I'm glad you got your choice. I felt so bad for you and how stressed out that number was making you but I have kids too so I understand. I wish all you guys luck! I wish someone from here would have picked session 4 so I would know someone. I feel alone again.

You should get the info today because the timeline in the guide says to complete certain chapters before orientation and the first week of classes and then others say to complete chapters before the second week of school. I would get that book as soon as possible. But also, remember, my info came from 2 semesters ago and that could be different now so just wait and see what happens today. But be assured it's not that hard. I even had to do the first 2 chapters to refresh myself on some stuff and I have completed 5 chapters in less than a week(doing every practice problem there is) and only have 3 left and had Lasik in between, so it is not too much. Now watch, the 3 chapters I have left will be killers and I will regret posting this (haha).

I'm not wearing black (to hot) or a green dot but I will have my sunglasses on (more than likely). That was the easiest, greatest surgery ever!!!!!!! For anyone thinking about Lasik, go for it. My biggest problem is forgetting I had it and forgetting my drops. Hopefully my fear of nursing school will be as unnecessary as my fear of that surgery! Anyway, I hope to meet some of you tomorrow. If not, I'm sure I will soon. By the way, a friend of mine is in her second term and she had previously sent me all the dosage calc. test stuff so when I got my book I knew exactly what to study. I only have 3 chapters left. It is NOT hard at all. Do not be scared of it. A couple of formulas, a small list of conversions to memorize, and common sense and you'll get it. Hope this takes some pressure off! Julie

I ordered my uniforms July 14th and UPS is delivering them tomorrow so that's 3 weeks.

Also, make sure if you go out there early you don't buy anything that is in the bundle package. She was labeling the book tags when I was there so that wouldn't happen but I would double check so you don't purchase something twice.

I got the books just by calling the bookstore. They all use the same books. Now different teachers may assign different work in the books but the books are all the same. I had called because I wanted the dosage book but figured if I was going out there I would get all I could to avoid 168 people doing it on Thursday but my plan didn't work because they didn't have a lot of stuff. But the dosage book was the most important. They had about 20 left but there may have been more in the back. I paid $63.75 for it used but it was around $85.00 new. The 4 books I got isbn #'s are below. Let me know if you need the iclicker but I would think you would have to get that at the bookstore. When you do get that, don't open it until your teacher makes you because a lot of teachers don't use it. Sorry I freaked everyone out thinking they didn't get something they should of. It's just my ocd kicking in and I'm trying to do everything possible before school and before I'm blind (haha). Here are the #'s Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary - edition 20 - ISBN - 13: 978-0-8036-1207-5 ISBN - 10: 0-8036-1207-9 (I don't know why there are 2 #'s, I am just listing them the way the appear) Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications, 7th edition, Joyce LeFever Kee ISBN - 0-13-118267-6 Dosage Calculations, Ratio-Proportion Approach, 2nd edition, Gloria D. Pickar ISBN - 13: 978-1-4180-1563-3 ISBN - 10: 1-4180-1563-6 (same as above, Dont know why) RNotes, Nurses Clinical Pocket Guide, 2nd edition, Ehren Myers ISBN - 10: 0-8036-1335-0 ISBN - 13: 978-0-8036-1335-5 (ditto....) Hope this helps!!!!!!

Heads up everyone! I went to the bookstore today to pick up some of the books. I wanted to get the dosage calc book because we have a test on that the second week of classes. I went ahead and bought what I could except for the books that are in a bundled pack which was not available yet and 2 other books that they were sold out of. The bundled book package is $581.16. The estimate for the other books you will have to get is..... dosage calc - $85.00 new, iclicker- $37.25, medical dictionary used - $39.95, Laboratory & Diagnostic - $34.25 used, RN clinical pocket guide - $24.95 new and then there are 2 other books they were out of that roughly cost $120.00 together. Just wanted to give you an idea.

Thanks amberb! My husband got it done about 12 years ago and has been after me ever since but I have been freaked out about messing with my eyes. I figured now was the best time since I always forget my indoor glasses. My sunglasses are prescription and I never leave without them but I have found myself in class not being able to see because of only having my sunglasses. You made me feel better about it.

I got the same email sent out saying they were shipping out on the 30th but my UPS notification says it will be delivered on Monday.
  23. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
Thank you guys very much. I am not going to wear the Lasik sunglasses. I'll look like I'm staring in the next Men In Black movie (haha). I appreciate all the support. I feel less self conscious already!
  24. jlike replied to kjl221's topic in Florida Nursing
Ok guys. I not I have not been part of this board very long and I don't make to many comments but I need to say this. I am having Lasik surgery on Monday so I am probably going to be in sunglasses during orientation. Mainly because I can't wear eye makeup for a week and I'm 40, so that's not good! I'm telling you guys this so I can eliminate a few people from secretly whispering that I look dumb or must think I am cool! I assure you that will not be the case. Now I won't have to dress a certain way or wear a green dot. I will be the pathetic, stupid, makeupless person in sunglasses!

You won't be the only guy. A friend of mine from A&P got in too. Just in case you were wondering
