  1. Hello fellow nurses: I have recently been interviewing for a Workers Comp. CM positon although they have two positions available at this time. Field and in office telephonic. I applied for telephonic office positon but then was told about the Field position and to apply for it, appeared to be a hard to fill position. I dont have any workers comp experience so basically when they ask me which I prefer I pretty much say I am open to both. The position is quite a distance(1hr) but I just want to get my foot in the door somewhere and go from there.Plus I figured, correct me if Im wrong that since I dont have any experience I would have a beter chance getting the field positon then Telephonic because it was possibly the less desirable and does require a 50% of travel. I feel that once a got the position if I wanted to change at least I already have my foot in the door. Is there a catch?
  2. This has been on my mind for sometime and I wanted to seek the opinion of other "Nurses". I cant speak for previous years so maybe others can. I have been a nurse since 2000 at the beginning of my career I had no idea what the position entailed or actually required. All I knew I was a "Nurse" and when asked what I did for a living. I was given answers of praise and recognition for being one at such an early age, followed by "Wow" you make good money. As years progressed I realized no one really knew what a nurse really did including other nurses and staff members alike. I get annoyed when the term nurse is used for everyone under the sun who is in a uniform or asked if I had to go to college. I feel the role of nurse has evolved so much and has become alot more comprehensive to include many more titles then "Nurse" . We are IT , Case Mangers, Housekeeping, Administrative Assistants, File Clerks, Babysitters, Social workers, Insurance specialist these are just examples and the list can go on forever because I have been continously asked to do things or have just done them for the betterment of a pt or just because. Which brings me to a second arguement that I have been hearing about. With the recent influx of people attempting to go to Nursing School regardless of the reasons. Do you approve of schools making the entry requirements as well as degree requirements more difficult? Do you feel this will make an impact of how nursing is perceived if requirements are more stringent and slows down the pace of nursing graduates?Correct me if I wrong but It seems as if compared to other healthcare degrees nursing is the easiest to obtain.
  3. Thank You . You bring up a good point .
  4. I have a question regarding nursing mangement. My colleagues and I are having a debate on the necessity of getting a bsn prior to getiing a mba or other business related degree does it affect your chances of getting into an administrative position if you dont have the bsn?
  5. When you apply for a job they tell you the salary differences. Or even you should try going to a job fair and see what they have to offer then you will know for sure. I live in NY so the current economy may affect people differently depending what state you live in. I think it is a hard to get a job now period but then I have friends who knew people and were able to get jobs right away while others still suffer.
  6. It all depends on the school or program you plan to attend some may have none, use the teas, net,or NLN exam for entrance. If you do plan on going don't take theses test lightly. Not that they are the hardest or most difficult. It's just that I have several friends who didn't study like they should have and didnt get into the nursing program over not wanting to buy the neccessary study materials. It just depends how much weight the test holds pertaining to your admission. You may pass the test but they might only want people in a certain percentile.
  7. I have a friend who is a new grad and wants to go to the ER. He was offered the following pick of shifts 7a-7p,11a-11p,1p-1a,3p-3a,and 7p-7a which would be the best for a new grad going to the er and why. It is a small hospital 30000 visits a year. Thank you to anyone who replies.:)
  8. I am interested in getting a masters degree, what would be be more beneficial as far as career options? Which would be more desired by employers MSN/MBA or MSN in nursing administration/nurse executive?
  9. :heartbeatI liked to wish everyone good luck on their journey thru nursing school. I here alot from people and read on this board about people not wanting to go to certain schools because some have better reputation then others. At the end of the day it really does not matter because everyone still has to take the same NCLEX and whatever school you do choose it still must be approved by NYS. The ASN vs. BSN only comes in to play, depending on a person's personal career goals and interest. If you go to a facility and ask the nurses who are working there where they graduated from you will here an array of answers. You get out of nursing school what you put into it. Some will do good and some won't. When you get on the floor that is when the real learning begins!:wink2:
