Group one -black list for nurses in dallas
Group One is a one-stop shop for employers to find out about a potential hire...I'm sure it was created with good intentions, but I have seen this used by managers to carry out a personal vendetta against a former employee, and have been threatened by a manager who basically said she would blacklist me from hospitals all across America if I had too many absences from work At the time, I had no idea what group one was, but when another coworker got blacklisted through it for some other petty reason, I found out, and have since quit my job at that hostile environment.... Now I'm happy at my job, and with a better manager, feel secure that even if I don't have perfect attendance, no one will be reporting me to GO! :heartbeat BTW, here's their website link for anyone who is interested! Lost job over HIPAA violation, what is employment potential?
Here in Dallas, there is something known as GroupOne. Every hospital in the DFW area uses it as a background check on an RN as part of the hiring process. I don't know how widespread it is for other states/areas, but they can pretty much black list nurses for almost any reason. I would think a HIPPA violation if posted to her record there would pretty much end her career...

How much is your pay?
Nope, that was one of the better starting rates I found...a couple of hospitals even started at $19.50/hr...With experience, there is much better reimbursement for agency/contract or PRN RN's. But new grads in the area start off close to the same rates. We're waaay behind Cali in many ways in respect to nursing...but cost of living is MUCH lower!!! A decent house can be purchased for $150,000.

How much is your pay?
I work in the Dallas area and as a new grad BSN started at $22.85/hr and $3000 sign-on for signing a 2-yr contract. It sure beats the tech pay I was making working my way through nursing school!

Do you work when you have The Crud?
I personally try not to, but what do you do when your hospital call-off policy is so strict that it only allows for 1 day/yr for an absence - excused or unexcused - before going down the road of verbal warning, written warning, suspension. I've seen many nurses on the unit struggling to make it through their 12-hr shift sick so they don't have to have a visit to the supervisor's office. I know there are people who 'abuse' the system and leave the unit short-staffed, but isn't that what PRN and agency RN's are for??? Hospital policy needs to change in some places so nurses CAN keep their germs at home.
