  1. I am relocating to Atlanta-ish in a few months, and I will be looking for a night shift job. Can anyone give me an idea of what the differential is out there?? Is is a dollar amount? a percentage?? does it vary greatly from hospital to hospital? Here in AZ, I the night differential is 20% of base pay from 7p-7a. THANKS!
  2. I'll definately look into those neighborhoods. I have heard great things about the schools in those areas as well. I think that we are going to rent....at least at first, but there appears to be rental homes in nice areas too. I will look into the Emory Hospital. Thanks for the relpy!
  3. Well, Gwinnett and Northside are already on my radar....so YAY!! I will also look up Piedmont. THANKS so much for that. A couple more questions if you dont mind.......... My husband will be going to school in Suwanee....and we'd like to live somewhere in between-ish. We have 3 kids ages 14, 12 and 8. Schools and safe neighborhoods are important to us. We are going to rent at first at least. So far, we have been looking at maybe Norcross?? Lawrenceville?? Lilburn?? Tucker?? I have heard that traffic can be worse than awful in Atlanta, so I dont want to live too far from either place. We are Arizonans (born and raised) so it is hard to know where to live and how far is too far away! THANKS so mcuh!!
  4. We will be relocating to the Atlanta area (slightly NE of Atlanta) for my husbands schooling. I currently work in mother/baby couplet care, and would like to continue to work in this area in Atlanta (I have 6+ years of experience). Can anyone recommend hospitals to work at?? I have been looking them up online, and there are BUNCHES!! I am wondering which have the reputation of being good to patients AND to thier employees?? THANKS!!
  5. I work in L&D/Postpartum as well, and we have patients that refuse eyes and thighs all the time. The parents have the right to do that, and I dont get too worked up about it.....UNLESS....the mother is known to have positive hep status (baby needs to get hep b and hbig) or mother is positive for gonorrhea and delivered lady partslly (then the baby needs the erythromycin oint). Also, if the parents refuse vitamin K for infant boys, I let them know that the pediatrician will not be able to circ the baby in the hospital (if that is their plan). 99.9% of the time, none of these situations are the case when the parents refuse, and we simply dont do it. Not a big deal.
  6. Hi all. I am an RN currently working postpartum night shift. I have been a nurse for 14 years here in AZ. My husband is applying to pharmacy school, and it is looking like ISU in Pocatello is going to be a potential option for us (in like 18 months). Since ID and AZ are nursing compact states, there is no license issue for me, but I am wondering what the pay is like up there compared to down here. I dont need exact numbers, but can someone give me a range?? The range around here is about $25-$40, plus 20% night differential. $25 being new grad pay, with experienced RN's going up from there. Also, what is the weather like in Pocatello? How much SNOW do you get?? I am an AZ girl, and I am NOT used to snow. I am still hoping and praying he can get into a local program and we dont have to go anywhere, but I am just checking out the options. Thanks
  7. I haven't worked in 9 years, and I haven't had an interview in 13!!! I did, however, take a RN Refresher course last semester, and I did 3 shifts a week for a couple of months at a different hospital in addition to the "bookwork". The position I am interviewing for is a full time 12 hour night spot at a large hospital on the postpartum unit (I worked postpartum when I was working 9 years ago). Any suggestions for me?? I have no idea of what questions they may ask or anything. Thanks!
  8. I was 22 (12½ years ago) when I graduated with my ASN. 17 years of school non-stop from Kindergarten to College graduation!!!! And I am NEVER going back, LOL!! I am happy with the degree I've got.
