If you plan on doing something else beside the Dr office work you may want to try ithat out where you are living now to get the experience you need For example if you want to work agency it might benifit you to work some time doing that now I moved acrossthe county from east coast to Ks I worked 14 years with children on vents etc in the home and now there isnt much need for that where i live I have applied for several postion in hospital but i have no recent floor experience nor would i really ever want to go back and do hospital work but I really am limited esecially now with my salary. I make $32 an hour working part time when i want to work
  5. Hi hope someone can answer a few questions on CEU's. I have been a Rn for 18 years recently in the past 18 months moved to KS from east coast. I was on line adding up all my fees paid out for taxes and was reading about CEU's. In PA they were'nt required. So if I want to renew my licence I will need 30 hours? Is this a year or two years? My new Ks licence is good for 18 months so the date of issue is May 07 I have an Dec even year BD so it will expire Dec 08 do i still need 30 if its only for 18 months? I work with an agency so where do i get the CEU"S Kansas rules / laws life style is so very different With just getting a new licence it should have given me something with it that gave me info on this just moving here how am i to know and up to this point no one has told me about anything and I've been working for 6 months Any /All info would be a help Thanks Lynda
  6. while you are a nurse you have to hust keep your mouth shut and hust realize the source i am personally griends with several Docs male and female and they dont act like that but most do its like a loser calling you a loser who cares the docs werent speaking to you you shouldnt have opned your mouth now on the other hand when a family member is in a docs care all bets are off when my dad went to see his PE in CHF they sent him saying they needed to set up O2 for him I called him later at work left work took him straight to the ER where he ended up in surgery Well that doc heard it from me he called my dad daily and stopped off at the hospital daily and my dad will never see the PE again I'm just saying use your knowledge for good who cares what others think or say unless they are directly attacking you an ass is an ass you wont change their opinions dont waste your energy trying
  7. yes, I am in home care and have been for the past 10 years I take care of children at home with special Dx that are on vents etc I love the one on one and i love kids so it fits Lynda

First off If your old then i should be dead by now!! I went to school for the 3rd time at the age of 26 I ended up as a Rn at 28 A few years back any way there were only a few male nurses at the time and one of them was a daily study partner and became a good friend I think that nursing is changing and males are needed I think the more men we have in the field I think the salary will have to increase to I have been an Rn for 17 years (quit counting) and the salary really hasnt changed My brother works in a mill as a crane operator and has no education through college but makes more than I do.I know its hard physical work but i just dont get it The one draw back that i experienced with each time i went to school/degree It became more difficult for me to retain all the info I was working going to school and studing (hard) and the younger students would leave the study group and be out all night before mid terms or finals I just couldnt do that If you do become an rn you'll always be able to find work The Best Lynda
  9. In my opinion the biggest draw back of starting a new job in a hospital setting is the women no OFFENCE LADIES but I would rather work on a floor with all men any day women can be very difficult My thoughts on this... for whatever its worth... if you think that the conflict between personalities will slowly resolve then stick it out but if you feel that this will be a struggle then GET OUT you do not need added stress of a first job you need to think of your well being Nursing jobs are every where now. try to get transfered to a different unit if not leave. Some women can be shallow and for no reason just be snobby. sometimes as women we are unhappy with our situation in life but instead of being nurturing and helpful they tend to resent this new young nurse for whatever reasons that they are lacking Unless you did or said something to them to make them have a problem with you its not you its them but if its not a healthy place for you its not the right job I had a intership in a ER the summer before i graduated and thee was a young male RN that all the nurses liked well i came in the picture started working there and this nurse was very helpful and when going to the lab etc he would take me along and show me and teach me things well the other nurses thought that i should just be there for them to do all the work they didnt want to do and it took me some time to figure out the dynamics of it all but the msle nurse that used to talk to them now was giving me his time and they let me know they didnt like it or me. I had to stay it was 8 weeks but taking the internship i was promised a job offer when i graduated. Needless to say i didnt take the job. It wasnt worth it. Too many games and too many in a power struggle. not good for anyone!!! I'm not trying to say all women are like that I'm not but the expression one bad apple spoiles the bunch is true here. Bottom line if you cant resolve the issues then move on Good luck whatever you decide Other nurses reading this give new nurses a chance help them teach them and you will feel better about yourself
  10. I to felt very stressed in a hospital I also felt very inadequate and not only do you worry about the patients but the staff under you.I felt that I was not working up to my standards of care and frankly I hated the paper work I do home care now and love the interaction with one patient I do peds so I really get to know the children this can also be stressful when the kids start getting sick on top of there diagnosis so your always trying to stay ahead of the game but when I'm at work I love it its rewarding to get hours cut because the child is getting better but and they dont need you as much but it is hard to be attached and lose them but I wouldn't go back to a hospital for any thing LYNDA
