  1. I heard by word of mouth (reliable word of mouth) that the cut off for my group (we started in January) was 185 points. That is much lower than normal. I had well over 200 points when I applied and got in easy... I would recommend shooting as close to 200 as you can to be a sure bet :wink2: Any other questions, let me know!
  2. I managed to knock a lot of money off of books through Amazon. And YES you will use all of them! And they are books you will most likely keep and will be useful to you in your career, so don't feel like they are a total waste of money...like you will never crack them open. YOU WILL. Everyday for the next 4 semesters of your life. When you start doing care plans and really need your drug book, med dictionary, etc... you'll be thankful they made you buy all of those books. Fast and furious does not begin to describe it! We learned how to give bolus feedings/PO meds via feeding tube and then two weeks later were doing it in clinical! Most of us had zero health care experience beyond doing it on a dummy once or twice in lab. Our clincical instructor was letting us do things we did NOT feel prepared to do... get used to the feeling though, I don't think we ever felt prepared for anything... it's just go, go, go... trying to cram everything in your head... When you find out who you have for lab, let me know... I hope that you get Carol and Brenda!! I heard that you guys will be the first group to have time limits on doing procedures... probably because we were taking too long! Some people were taking nearly 30 minutes to insert their catheters... I don't know how we ever got through that course. I wonder how much you will be balancing along with nursing school, a job or children?? I was amazed at the single moms/single dads working their way through the program... Amazing. I came here half a year ago looking for Ivy Tech Fort Wayne students and found none. Nice to meet you!
  3. Me! I just finished my first ASN semester here at Fort Wayne and still feel like a newbie! I know all the professors and all about the courses you're about to take... if you have any questions, I'm sure I have answers! I have horror stories as well as really great stories... Get ready, those first five weeks you hit the ground running, and you don't stop!!! Be thankful for those first five weeks to adjust to how the nursing courses are run, though... when you get into Med Surg week 6 as well as your LTC clinical, you will miss those first five weeks that you THOUGHT were hard... It's intense! If you have any questions let me know! I'll get back to you asap! Erin
  4. I don't know about you all but I am getting NEEERRRRVVVVOOOOUUUUSSSSS!! :w00t:
  5. I am just now starting clinicals at age 20.
  6. I can not figure out why Ivy Tech Fort Wayne sounds so much different than the other Ivy Tech campuses. I hear that other students need a lot less books, a lot less worry about being accepted (hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of people apply here, year after year, and never get in with even very high grades and great TEAS scores), and it just seems like stress is lower! Am I wrong? Are other Ivy Tech's just as difficult as this campus? I know that we have a 100% nursing success rate here. No one has ever failed. We have very dedicated instructors.
  7. I took your advice and used amazon. My total was just over $800! I saved so much money! Thanks so much
  8. I have not bought my books yet either! About $1200 for the 17 books we will need for first semester here at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne! Ridiculous for someone who is only 20 and has no help - no financial aid, no student loans. Hope we get them soon!:balloons:
  9. I am also starting the RN program at an Ivy Tech! The Fort Wayne Ivy Tech... so just like two hours above you! I am excited too, but I can already feel the butterflies in my stomach! Nervous!
  10. For all of us starting our programs in just a matter of weeks, check in! We will be there for each other on the bad days, offer encouragement and congratulations! AGE: 20 SCHOOL: Ivy Tech Fort Wayne ORIENTATION: January 9 START DATE: January 14 Good luck to all of us - student nurses!
  11. Littmann Master Cardiology? Littmann Classic II? Littmann Master Classic II? Littmann Cardiology III? I start Med/Surg in just a few weeks and want a Littmann - but there are so many to choose from! From your experience, which works well for you? I would like one under $200 that won't hurt my neck and ears. But I also want a really GOOD one that will last me quite a while (God willing no one snatches it away!!) Suggestions PLEASE! Thanks everyone...
  12. I am currently in nursing school... clinicals... working towards my RN. I really love the idea of pediatric nursing... that is the route I would like to take. Will I need extra schooling after I pass my boards and become an RN? Or can an RN degree get me a job in pediatrics?
  13. I considered Gary but chose Fort Wayne! The wait to recieve my acceptance letter was torture - I really feel for you! I hope that you get accepted! Fingers crossed - maybe we will get to start together! Hope you read "Congratulations..." when you open it up!!!
  14. I have heard bad things about St. Francis's nursing program. In fact, I was just in a discussion with a bunch of nurses the other day talking about how ridiculous their program is. A bunch of money for a two year wait to get into clinicals and hardly any hands on experience. Since you are in the Ft. Wayne area - and the four classs + TEAS score determines your acceptance - I am guessing you are attending an Ivy Tech? I am in he the RN program at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne - here Eng, Psy, AnP 101 and 102 all count as points as well as your TEAS score - here you do NOT have to have all A's as a requirement either. Not to put anyone's intelligence down or anything - but we typically accept lower GPA's here. In fact the cut off point of acceptance was only in the 180 range! That is considered pretty low compard to other Ivy Tech campuses. I really love this campus and the people here. We have great staff and students. I would recommend checking it out here! If Saint Francis is your top choice though, I wish you luck...
  15. You have a great attitude about it! Having a positive attitude will take you far in life. Being able to dust yourself off and try to do better next time is all you can do. You can't ask for anything more than your best! I have heard Pharm is a tough, tough class - I know a lot of girls here in NS have to take it more than one time around. Sounds like you have confidence in yourself in thats all that matters. Good luck on your next one, you can do it!
  16. Congratulations on your CNA - that bonus does sound rather suspicious? Like a bribe? Hm, worth investigating though I guess. I feel so jealous of everyone! I was planning on getting into counseling and the psychology field and then completely switched routes and chose nursing. Because of that I DO NOT have my CNA, LPN - nothing! No experience. I feel like I shot myself in the foot. I have met vitually no one getting into the field who does not have experience. I guess there is a first time for everything? I feel like I'm in over my head. Guess either way I'll have to take Fund Nurs Lab, maybe you will luck out though? :) AH! I'm feeling overwhelmed today!
  17. Congratulations!!! That is so great to hear how many people are getting acceptance letters instead of rejections!!! How many people get accepted at Valpo? Do you already have your CNA or LPN?
  18. I have read a lot of your posts, you and I sound a lot alike! I am at an Ivy Tech near you - I just got accepted today into the Spring '08 RN program! Let me know if you get in! I would love to talk!
  19. Congratulations!!! I just got accepted into the Ivy Tech Fort Wayne RN program! Exciting, huh?
  20. CONGRATULATIONS! Me too. :) I just got accepted, just a few hours above you...
  21. Hey!!! I was hoping I would find someone like you here! I just got accepted into Ivy Tech Fort Wayne, only about two hours above you. I got into the Spring '08 program as well! We will be starting together! I would love if you would want to talk. Maybe we could do this together! I am so excited and nervous at the same time. How many people got chosen at your school? Only 50 got accepted here and we had hundreds of applicants. My e-mail address is [email protected] I would love to get to know you! So happy to find someone else who got accepted into an Ivy Tech on this site! Hope to hear from you! Erin
