  1. Good morning, all. Stars, I am so glad your trip went relatively smoothly for you and your pup. What a little rascal for escaping! My little girl dog will run and completely ignore calls to come back, so I know that panic. I hope you can take a few days to decompress. I had a productive day yesterday. Accompanied sis to her routine PCP visit, and reminded to report a concerning symptom. She gets caught up on being social and forgets the reason for the visit. Came home, and finished the newsletter and creating a few flyers and sent them off. And got some gardening done. Then off to a foundation board meeting where we got to spend some of the money we raised at the big plant sale. Today, I really need to get some inside cleaning done. The day is cool and overcast, so I don't have the sunshine beckoning me to come out and play.
  2. I dunno. I've seen some pretty crazy parents and win-at-all costs coaches. A parent pulled a knife out at a hockey match when his Canadian team was losing badly to our American team. We used to joke that it wasn't a real game if the RCMP didn't show up. Perhaps we should just go back to pre Title IX and get rid of girls sports all together. They should be learning to be trad wives anyway.
  3. It's been a while since my kids played, but each sport had policies with age divisions. And yes, I was fine with that, because the governing body of each sport, (hockey, football, baseball, soccer) set forth and oversaw those policies.
  4. This is how I think gender and sex in sports should be handled. The governing body sets the policies.
  5. Safe travels, Stars! I just got home from the dentist. I was happy to get in to see the hygienist who usually cleans my teeth. She wanted to know about our Alaska cruise, and she told me about her garden. I worked a couple of hours at the demo garden before that. I need to finish up the newsletter today, call my sister to wish her a happy birthday, and pull a few weeds. And I need to contact a couple of doctor offices, which I am putting off. My sister's cardiologist office called yesterday to make an in-person follow up appointment after her cardioversion, and we went round and round as to whether it could be a tele visit. Then he called me back, to say she didn't need to be seen until October, and that could be a tele visit. Huh? I went with dh to the plant diagnostic clinic yesterday ostensibly to show him how to turn on the microscope , but I spent the time with my computer balanced on my lap while he visited with all the staff in the office. I would rather have been at home with good wifi. When we finally got home, I fell asleep sitting upright on the couch. So that why I need to finish the newsletter and weed today.
  6. Both of the athletes involved in the recent SCOTUS decision competed in track and field, non-contact sports. The child in the West Virginia case was on puberty block meds, so never developed male characteristics, such as increased bone density or musculature. She wasn't endangering anyone.
  7. https://www.livescience.com/health/theres-no-reason-to-ban-us-from-playing-analysis-debunks-notion-that-transgender-women-have-inherent-physical-advantages-in-sports Keep in mind the SCOTUS cases concerned adolescent girls, not women who had transitioned after puberty. Perhaps we should keep 7 foot tall teens out of sports because they have an advantage? Or that rare individual with 20/10 vision? I don't know if you consider top fuel drag racing a sport, but there are/have been several women who have competed.
  8. @chare I thought that was your intent, but just in case, I wanted readers of this forum to understand some of the challenges presented to visitors. BTW, I enjoy your links, especially the military ones.

  10. It is a very pleasant 78 degrees with a light breeze blowing. I took MiL to the chiropractor and ran some errands. Now I need to get a newsletter drafted and some flyers designed. It looks my self-assigned daily weeding may not get done. We went to eldest ds's home last night to watch the World Cup and he grilled some pork, along with potatoes, carrots and beets. I brought along a cabbage & kale slaw with dill dressing. And DiL made me a delicious gin and tonic. I don't understand much about soccer rules, but the game was still pretty exciting. The athleticism is amazing. Poor little doggie. My dogs are such pigs that it's easy peasy to medicate them. They will swallow anything if cheese or peanut butter is involved. Stars, the end (of the first leg) is in sight! You can do it! That heat and humidity sounds wicked. When I went with nursing students to the Dominican Republic it was hot and humid. We all ended up with swollen feet and legs. It was hard to wear shoes for the trip home! and it was snowing when we flew back into Seattle.
  11. I think I mentioned a news release that Seattle hotels were concerned about low room reservations. And I may have mentioned something about ICE. As it was, Iran was forced to spend time between games in Mexico, Uzbekistan and Senegal were subjected to intense scrutiny, and a ref being refused entry, things have gone relatively smoothly. I find it ironic that visitors were pleasantly surprised by friendly Yanks and the lack of crime. It was nice to see Seattle noted as the best site. As far as failure, I was listening to BBC earlier, and it looks like Trump is doing his darnedest to muck things up because he wants credit for lifting the suspension of the US player.
  12. You saw a headline and some videos. Well, I guess that better than no source at all.
  13. dh and I battle over the thermostat all the time. I think 80 is the ideal temperature. He thinks 50 is. It's probably that we don't have AC.
  14. Happy 4th of July! It's sunny and partly cloudy today, it will get to about 67 today. No plans for today, other than going to mow eldest ds's lawn for him. Then we will hunker down at home, while neighbors around us set off tons of fireworks. I think ds is going to bbq some ribs. Luckily the dogs don't seem to mind all the noise. Our last dog really suffered from anxiety around the 4th. I've been trying to catch up on email and projects for the master gardeners. I still need to write the newsletter for this month, but I am blanking on topics. I usually do a "plant of the month", some master gardener event, and some helpful tips. But, I am stumped. I picked our blueberries for the first time this year, and was sorely disappointed. The crop yield is way down, and there were tons of little snails on the bushes eating the berries. Yuck. I gave the munched on ones to the dogs and they didn't seem to mind at all. Here is a picture of daylilies that a fellow master gardener shared. She is have show coming up, and I used this photo to make a flyer.
  15. I am unaware of "the liberal BS that rights are being taken away by this SCOTUS decision". Can you offer a source for this claim? I personally did not say that this decision took away rights. Earlier, I was speaking about Republicans in general use trans youth to distract while real graft and the cancellation of rights are taking place. The president uses it frequently as a talking point, while he's taking in $1.4 billion. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/01/20/opinion/editorials/trump-wealth-crypto-graft.html?unlocked_article_code=1.vFA.FJ9x.3ruBc-Sscpnh&smid=url-share
  16. I maintain that governmental laws about transathletes are unnecessary. The outcry over them is a red herring, meant to inflame tensions and distract from obvious graft and diminution of rights. Activists who proclaim concern about the safety of girls are silent about girls participating on historically boys' teams, like hockey, baseball or wrestling.
  17. A ballot initiative in Washington state could require genital exams for school girls to play sports. Eww. The state athletic association does not restrict transgender athletes. I think children have concerns about creepy coaches than their peers. Anyone remember Larry Nassar? https://www.kuow.org/stories/transgender-ballot-initiative-could-require-genital-exams-for-wa-secondary-school-students
  18. I should have captioned my pictures. The cove reminded me of the Goonies movie, which was filmed, in part, in the area. I just loved the sign post which pointed the name. The old lighthouse is out of commission, but the Coast Guard has a spotting station next to it, that you can see the corner of, just left of the lighthouse. And the little rose, was a wild rose growing along side the path. I think it is a Nootka rose. Stars, you remind me of Dory, in Finding Nemo. As I say to myself in the midst of an onerous, never-ending task, "just keep swimming, just keep swimming."
  19. I think the Fox reporting is overly simplistic. I continue to believe that sport organizations such as the NCAA should determine eligibility guidelines instead states or the federal government. I fear that some children will be subjected to intrusive testing should they not fit the stereotype of others.
  20. We made good time getting to Seattle and back for sis's procedure, even stopped for a quick lunch. Dh has a long list of stuff for me to do for the Master Gardeners. We were gone for a week and I purposely didn't not take my computer so I would have a week off. Dh went to volunteer this morning, and got many requests to create flyers, which apparently, only I can do. For whatever reason, the other person that trained to do it has not been asked. And I need to write up minutes for a meeting I attended 2 weeks ago. I think I will go peek at my garden before I get too immersed in this computer.
  21. Yesterday was a travel day as we slowly made our up the coast, stopping for coffee, gas, and ice cream. Today we are going to visit a lighthouse near the mouth of the Columbia River. We'll spend another night here and then take most of Tuesday to get home. Then I need to turn around and take sis to doc in Seattle, and then eldest ds to a different doc in Seattle. Friday I will sleep!
  22. Yesterday's plans got messed up because our pickup was acting weird. The electronic codes were weird, then it wouldn't start. A fellow camper helped to jump it, we drove to a NAPA store which refused to check the battery unless it was carried into the store, but we had no tools. So we drove to a recommended mechanic who was able to check the alternator. That was fine. So youngest ds bought a small socket set and disconnected the negative pole on the battery. That reset the electronics and now everything is fine, we hope. We'll get it into our mechanic when we get home. All that took the Morning and early afternoon. So we had a nice, late lunch/early dinner and went to bed early. Today is rainy, so it's a reading and snacking kind of day.
  23. To me, wearing an article of clothing or a pin with a rainbow is simply a reminder that we don't know another's struggles or challenges and an invitation to treat each other with grace. If you think it's encouraging public displays of sex, then that's just weird.
  24. My neck is a little sore today. Youngest ds and I went for a dune buggy ride yesterday and there was lots of jostling and bouncing, but it was fun. The driver took us along the beach and we saw an osprey dive into the surf and catch a fish. Later we drove to Coos Bay and explored the waterfront, at at food trucks, and visited another lighthouse. After dark we visited the Umpqua Lighthouse that we toured 2 days ago. It has a unique red and white alternating light that is beautiful at night. We may explore Florence today, checking out souvenir and candy shops. https://share.Google/B8dKPV3aPmji95Fbl
