  1. hey , i have experienced the morphine by family request for a palliative care patient as well, oh needless to say i wasnt very popular with that family, but i wasnt going to give 5mg morph( it was subcut) every hour when family wants
  2. am big on eucalyptus oil. well how i do it is i put some in warm water for maybe 5 minutes before bag change, and keep it there till maybe 15 minutes after. well works sometimes
  3. i agree with you Nyapa, turning it off is os hard.......but one thing i have drummed into my family and friends heads( especially when they kep asking for advice) is first i am family, then am a nurse, and they have learnt to give me a break.(i tell them to go the the family doctor) especially when its not in my area of nursing . but its hard in my part to see something and not comment ( happened when my best friend was in hospital). not that any one was doing anything wrong, but it took a long shot not to pick onthings.
  4. In my whole (brief) nursing career i have a weak stomach for dentures and suctioning as well, and having pt with poor peri hygiene and you have to catheterise...now that really sends me off i can handle most other things, bleeding doesnt faze me, fungating wounds are ok.
  5. my hospital, besides being 15 minutes walk to one of the best Beaches in sydney, is really old. but the staff are mostly friendsly!!!! and there is great support for students and new staff ( well most of the time)
  6. am pretty sure there is a discussion linked to this somewhere, Giving baths, cleaning poop, puke and feeding patients are part of nursing career, oyu end up making jokes about it. what year studying are you? as you get more into it, during clinicals you get to do more stuff, depending on how enthusiastic you are about doing extra stuff had a placement in psych once and i experrienced had to clean some feces there too, unless you go into admin...... hehehe just kidding
  7. That is just the best!! am saving up for a cruise!!! i sen tthis to our NUM who is retiring in a few weeks.
