  2. Hi! I will be in Nursing 4 when school resumes. I was wondering what to focus for this semester. I know we will be doing peds, ICU, psych..............................any suggestions?
  3. Hello to everyone! I will be in Nursing IV (yeah last semester!!!) when I go back in January. The first thing we will be studying is ICU. Past students have all said this is the hardest part of Nursing IV (and also the first thing we will have on returning in the Spring). I would really like to study ICU the month we are out between semesters so I will be somewhat ahead. Can anyone recommend what and how I might study ICU??????
  4. Hey, I also am in 3. I think we all worry....especially once we have gotten this far. I had an instructor put it into perspective last week. He said,"You are all intelligent or you would not have made it this far". Just refocus. You can do it!!!
  5. I am confused about the rounding for med math. Would 0.6666666 mL always be rounded to 0.7 or does it depend on if it is mg, mL , etc? What about 1.6666666?
  6. Can anyone tell me what I might can use for 2 care plans for a patient in preop? She had a LAVH with left salpingo-oophorectomy due to uterine prolapse. Only other medical problems are HTN and Hyperlipidemia. My instructor tells me I am not picking priority diagnosis for patients in preop????
  7. Thank you for saying that. I was thinking the same thing!
  8. We gave our first IV push med today....I used a formula and my calculator to figure the IV push rate and it was correct. However, our instructor wanted us to figure it in our head using the marks on the syringe. We used 3 mL syringe which is 30 marks. The question is if you have drawn up 50mg/mL diluted with 3 mL NS (we gave Demerol) and you only want to give 12.5mg how do you do this in your head?
  9. Is there a quick way to figure IV Push meds in your head???? Such as Demerol or Morphine when diluted with 5 or 10 mL of solution.
  10. We have checkoffs tommorrow and have this pacu scenerio. Pain wakes up in pain. MD orderes 6.25mg of Demerol for pain. Available in 25mg/mL. Is this correct 6.25mg ______ X 1 mL = 0.25 mL (dose to give??) 25mg Also, patient has heplock so would this be IVP......0.25 mL in how many seconds??? We were not given time.....
  11. Can anyone provide help with the following med math problem? Client is admitted to labor and delivery for a trial induction. Order reads: Begin Pitocin at 2 milliunits per minute and increase by 1 milliunit every 15 minutes until 3 good contractions every 10 minutes. Available: 500 mL of normal saline with 30 units of Pitocin. What rate (mL/hr) should be set on the infusion pump to begin the infusion?
  12. Need help with this problem: Order reads: Ancef 1 gram in 50 mL IV piggyback give over 30 minutes. What rate (mL/hr) should be set on the infusion pump to deliver the correct amount? Thanks for any/all input!!!
  13. What is a 485??
  14. I am a first semester nursing student. We are required to fill out a cluster sheet on a client that has two columns. One is signs/symptoms and the other is risk factors. I am having a hard time distinguishing between the two. Can anyone help on this?
