I am glad they still do the lottery at least for the Orientation group. Even though I pulled #116 (UGH!!!) I still managed to get a decent section. Good luck to all!!!!

Hi there all! I am curious how your orientation went! I am about to start 2nd term, feel free to PM me if you have questions about teachers, classes, etc. It will fly by, believe me! I am stunned 1st term is already over. Did they use the lottery for your registration? They have done away with it for ours. (grrr..) If 99.2 is what you scored after multiplying by .64, and then you add the 120 pts, you would be at 219.2. Don't waste your time retaking the NAT. It's pretty safe to say you'll get in.

I don't have my papers with me, but I think I only had like 104pts for my grades and then after multiplying my NAT by .64, I got another 112 pts. My grades were good, but I did have 1 C and a few B's. So you do not have to have straight A's or anything, you do well enough on the NAT & it can pull you up quite a bit.

Well, I am not 100%, but someone on one of our threads posted that they got a letter stating that she did not get in b/c the cutoff was 176 and she had 170. She actually had more than 170 and had to get it straightened out with the school. But that's where I am getting my info on the cutoff. Anyone know for sure what it was this term?

I got in with 216 pts. I heard the cutoff for this term was something in the mid 170's....anyone remember? I think that cutoff was lower than the norm, which is usually in the mid 180's.

I don't live in OP, but I am in the day program. I live in Batram Park out by Baptist South. I was thinking those of us in the day program should start a thread, too. So we can see who's out there and where.

I know it's so frustrating! I got denial reversed by bringing in my acceptance letter and speaking to the Elaine Cornwell at Deewood campus. She gave my info to the dean, Margot something and they reversed the denial. Don't bother with the nursing counselors, just got to Deewood Financial Aid counter. Let me know how it goes!

I will be working as well, although I am doing day shift. I figured I'd rather work and go to school Mon- Fri and have weekends for studying. I am going to see about dropping my hours down from 40 to 32 per week if possible. Even that will be a tough pay cut! For all of you wondering about Northside Medical Clinic pricing, I called today and was told: Rubella- $17 Varicella- $30 Heb B- $50 Tuberculosis- $10 tetorifice- $18 Drug screen- $26 Hope that is helpful to some. That is cheaper than even my insurance, unfortunately I have already done all but the titers, but I'll be doing those at Northside for sure!

I know...all of these start up costs have my head swimming! I am trying not to let it ruin my excitement. I am still trying to find out how much all these shots and lab work are going to total up to, but it's not like I have an option anyway. So I will just brace myself for the bills! Discover card to the rescue! (even though I HATE using credit at all)

As far as books go...can you get them from another source (half.com, amazon.com, etc) or do you have to buy them at orientation? Does anyone know anyone who has bought them online? If so, how was their experience?

I just got a call from Deerwood's Financial Aid office- they are reversing their decision and approving me for loans! YAY! I can finally celebrate! :balloons:

I go to my fingerprinting at noon on Friday. (taking an extended lunch) And I do my medical exam (physical, immunization, etc) tomorrow morning at my dr appt. I swear my boss is already over working with me on my schedule! Oh well.. this will be all of it until January. Can I just say "THANKS" to all of you on this site. I swear this has been about the only reliable source of information. I don't know where I'd be (somewhere uninformed amd grumpy) without all of your input and info sharing!

Ok- I went in to FCCJ Deerwood and spoke to Carolyn and then Elaine in Financial Aid. Just my luck, the dean was not in and she's the only one who can override her own denials. So I gave them a copy of my acceptance letter and they said they will give it to the dean (Margo Martin) She is supposed to call me tomorrow. At 2:15 I attended the financial aid class (1 hour) that is required now if you want to take out a loan. After class, I was speaking to the instructor and informed him of my situation. He said that it was ridiculous and he felt like maybe they didn't know I was accepted? Anyway- he told me to email him my info and he will go to bat for me. Lucky break! So...I am pressing on, did my drug screen today, fingerprinting Friday, etc... I don't want any more hiccups in this process! We'll see. I will keep everyone posted! ~Amy

The letter I got was in response to my appeal!! The only thing that is strange is there was one sentence bolded stating "Student must be accepted into the nursing program before financial aid is approved" But another sentence said I was denied and the decision was final??? I took a personal day off work and am heading onto campus shortly. Hopefully showing them my acceptance letter will change things. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

It's this friday, the 26th. I would get in touch with the Nursing office quickly - it seems you have to get in there in person to get answers.

ARGH! This is so frustrating! I just got a letter from the financial aid dean saying I was denied fin aid because of the 150% rule (if you have 150% of the credits needed for an assoc degree, which is 60 credits, they say you are not making "satisfactory progress") Of course I have more credits than that- I have a B.S. degree! How is that not satisfactory progress!?!?? So now, I am signed up for the required financial aid class tomorrow (and had to take an extended lunch break from work to do so) and I have been DENIED aid??? So I guess I will be seeking out the financial aid lady as well... I could cry! I worked this hard to get in...

Hi Heatherp77- I applied for Financial Aid too. It's kind of a pain. I did it online through FAFSA's website: https://fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/fotw0708/FFOTWServlet;jsessionid=0001MsIx4-299lXm2Egu_GaWZMX:120nslfdv In a few weeks, you will get a letter from FCCJ informing you if you qualified for grants or loans. I was only able to take out a loan, and I am taking out the max so I will have to attend a 1 hour class at FCCJ tomorrow because of it.(some new requirement) There is a really helpful woman at Deerwood's Financial Aid desk. I would HIGHLY recommend paying her a visit- there was a lot of information that I was unaware of until I spoke with her. I think her name is Rosemary? Lastly- The thing most frustrating for me is that any dispursement checks won't actually get to you until several weeks into the course.You will have to get creative on how to get all your books, materials, uniforms - unless you have that part set aside already. Hope that helps!

I got mine too!!! (216pts) You guys are right- there is a TON of expensive items to buy and background checks, etc.... I will worry about that later!
