  1. I graduated from NHTI in Dec. and we had to go to a board meeting at nh board of nursing and the board had some serious concerns about the school, instructors, safety and pass rate for graduates. I saw that there scores came up a bit on the NCLEX-PN but they still were listed under conditional approval from NH board. Hope this helps....I hate to see someone pay all that $$ for school and not get an A+ education. Good Luck
  2. STUDY STUDY STUDY....AND WHEN YOU THINK YOU ARE DONE STUDY SOME MORE :) I have been a LNA for 7 years before starting LPN school and I thought that would give me a good base, and it did to some degree but there is so much more to everything. Know your parameters for things like what are normal values of vitals, lab values and know your meds.....I recommend reading the drug book in the front where it tells about how the meds work and what are included in each section MOST OF ALL BREATH AND TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOU EVERYDAY TO JUST RECOOP FROM ALL OF IT Again Good Luck!!
  3. If the testing is the tough part for you and you are struggling then maybe take the LPN route which you do not need the NLN for and then you can go on after that to get your RN. It is a bit of a longer route but it gets you out of taking the NLN. I know a few people who have done it that way because they struggled and failed the NLN multiple times and felt as you do that why have that determine them becoming a nurse.....just a thought Besides passing the NLN does NOT guarantee you a spot in the program by the way I am about to graduate the LPN course from NHTI and it is tough, so I know all about the long way.....I thought it was "just" the LPN course and I really wanted to be a RN but I have learned a lot and have a new respect for the LPN GOOD LUCK!!
  4. I know for sure that when you are in the RN or LPN courses after 1 semester you can get your LNA all you do is pay the fee. I have not known any colleges to offer the classes but there is the red cross, HCTA in manchester, and a couple other agencies that train and also some of the local nursing homes train in house. Acceptance can be tough but some get lucky and get right in with little to no pre- recs done. I was not one of the lucky ones, applied for RN 2 years in a row with an overall 3.4 GPA, did OK on NLN and was not accepted, applied for the LPN and got on a waiting list but then into the program Jan 07....it is very competitive in both so I wish you all the luck!!! Hope this helps
  5. I am about to graduate in Dec as a LPN and from what I have found it is about 33,000-40,000 depending on where you work....doc offices tend to be the lowest. I know a friend that works at a nursing home in concord and is making close to 45,000 working nights and another is working for the government and after 1 year is up 10 38,000 Hope this helps GOOD LUCK!!
  6. I know there is a good care plan book that a lot of us liked and borrowed from each other and for the life of me I cannot remember the name or author so I will talk to the girls at clinical tomorrow and get back to you with the name and author. Also as a heads up look into writing nurse's notes-there is actually a finesse to them and what an instructor likes to see. Are you headed to NHTI? If so I can forward you some of the documnets for the careplans and such to let you see ahead of time. ~Kelly
  7. Cardigan~ You are welcome....GOOD LUCK in whatever program you choose :) I too and doing the LPN and then onto my RN ~Kelly
  8. HTommy~ I am enrolled in my 3rd and final semester at NHTI concord....it is a good program and a tough one. One of my clinical instructors also teaches at NE practical school of nursing. She is a tough instructor but if you are dedicated and work hard you will learn A LOT from her and the program.....GOOD LUCK!! ~Kelly
  9. If I were you I would stay away from the school in Salem....my class just attended the board of nursing PUBLIC meeting on Sept 20th and they had a lot of issues going on with them and yes there are the NCLEX scores that are very scary also. Also FYI we heard some alarming things about a school in Nashua Holden Health Institute and St. Joseph's in Nashua also had low NCLEX scores on what the board called a interim report, they were in the 60% range and may not get accredited. Hope this info helps and does not look like I am bashing the schools I just do not want to see anyone loose money on a crappy education ~Kelly
  10. Hi ALL!! I am in the LPN program at NHTI in concord and my clinical instructor whom I think the world of and admire very much works for the New England school of practical nursing and reccomends it.....Hope this helps :) ~Kelly
