Changing a patient's diaper while they are standing ?
I can understand if they are in the actual bathroom. I was commenting on residents who are incontinent. You wouldn't want to walk someone to their bed with feces dropping off of their bottom. I agree with that. However if the resident is incontinent and is using a brief and bed pad I would change them in bed and change the linens, It is pretty uncomfortable I imagine to hunker over two cna's with your legs dangling while being wiped.

I think changing a brief and doing peri care while the resident is standing is inappropriate. I have seen two cnas with a res's arm draped around the shoulders while one wipes...... It's sad. They need their dignity, most of of them have lost so much already.

immature but true
I just re-read my last post and want to say that I didn't mean it to sound rude, I guess it's just the way it came out.

immature but true
Well, I am 25 so I don't really consider myself "young" lol I feel like I am around 90 some days. I hope you aren't assuming that I am going to be unprofessional because I am nervous (or young). From what I am reading, there are a lot of people who have started out with a few fears... I don't want you to think that I am going to be removing the feces from a resident and yell " Oh my GAWD, it's like POOP, GROSS!" So in answer to your reply, yes, of COURSE I am going to be respectful of the patients, I am just leery of a few things. I want to do the best for the residents and give them the care they deserve. I admit that my post sounded "immature" but I am honestly scared and nervous. lol but thankfully some of these great folks have shared their experiences starting out with me and few have questioned my professionalism and respect for the patient.

immature but true
I am starting a CNA job soon for a nursing home (they are paying for my certification), and I am VERY nervous. When I walked into the place I was SO scared (just to have my interview.) I know that these are just people like everyone else, and I DO want to take excellent care of them but I am freaking out.... I am so terrified of memberes too. ,as in I dont want to touch them. I'm also nervous about wiping poop and that I will drop someone. I haven't started school yet but am wondering if anyone else had these fears when they started?!?

any weak stomachs?
wow lol you guys get to deal with some pretty gross stuff! I know its not something I should be worrying about, it just makes me feel a little better to know that SOME things get easier to handle

any weak stomachs?
Hi all. I am a PRE- nursing student with *another question* :) Did any of you nurses have weak stomachs? I didn't really have one before I had my 2 little girls. I could watch/see/smell anything (except look at spiders, I have arachnophobia) and not get grossed out, but after I got pregnant I got grossed out at anything and still do! Did any of you have a weak stomach and is it possible to get used to seeing things like gaping wounds, rotting flesh, etc.? I dont want pts to feel bad about me standing there gagging, I want this to go away! Thanks :)

Sexist English Teacher
I'm not sure what to do yet because I don't think dropping the class at this point is an option. And you are SO right about him. It was like he was warning us not to go to the dean. Now I know why he wont allow tape recorders in the class.

Sexist English Teacher
Actually he said it in front of the whole class. He also went into a rip about how he has only been in the boss' office once for a complaint from a male student (who he said is a mommas boy). He then said he can't count how many times he has been in there on account of a female student. He also mentioned that his character has nothing to do with our grades (thats on our SYLLABUS as well>...) and that going over his head does not prove to be advantageous to the student anyway. I feel damned if I do and damned if I dont, y'know?

I agree. I had his class today and he explained his grading system. if you look like an A student then he does everything he can to help you keep your A. If you look like a B student you will be keeping your B. If you look like a failing student you have no hope. WHAT!??! I know I shouldnt get irritated at the other students, I should only be irritated at him, but there is Mrs. Perfect in the front row who probably brushes her hair more than does homework correctly ( and she looks like an A student of course)........grrrrr * I am going nuts!* BUT on the bright side, I emailed the dept chair of nursing to ask her a question about the application process and she invited me to her office on monday. I am so EXCITED. I actually think if not for him my gpa would be like 3.8 or 3.9. But now with a B, I dont know.........

doctor/nurse relationship
wow thanks for all the replies! I think that I will be ok. For some reason I have always had this schtick in my head that the doctor fires the nurse for "talking back" lol. Silly, I know.

What does the test entail?

doctor/nurse relationship
Hi all. I am a mere pre-nursing student...lol but thought I would slip in and ask some of you experienced nurses a question. What is a doctor/nurse relationship like? I have a sister who works in the hospital ER and she says the doctors yell at the nurses quite a bit. Is this true? Even if true, I would still continue on my course, It's just a little scary. So, do the docs really have God complexes?

What does the test entail?
No I'm not sure. I think the pamphlet says there is an entrance test but doesn't specify which one. One of my girlfriends just got accepted there though so I guess I could ask her. Shes just hard to catch lol
