  1. Thanks to all who responded. Yes, the class is about pregnancy, not going into labor and birth and the first few months. Please keep the ideas coming!
  2. Hi all . . . I am an L&D nurse and in addition work in an OB/GYN office. The OB/GYN have asked me to put together a basic, "1st time parents" class that briefly touches on what to expect from the 2nd trimester to am I in labor. Can anyone direct me to some sort of "rough outline" so I know what to discuss? I thought I would start by showing the video "the miracle of life" and then I would have another hour to keep them interested. I don't have a problem getting the info, I just need the "skeleton" to get started. Thanks so much to anyone who can help.
  3. The shifts are all 12 hours, I don't know why it says 8 hours on the website. Is your new unit clerk Iris? I LOVE her and MISS her!
  4. My supervisor has taken 3 new grads since I have been there (2 years). I was the first new grad they ever hired right out of nursing school, and I guess after that went rather well, they decided to hire another 6 months after me, and one recently. There website is very accurate, but I don't know if they will take new grads right now, you would have to get in touch with nurse recruitment. I actually knew a nurse in L&D while I was going to school and that's how I got my foot in the door. I LOVE it! And I am so grateful for getting the chance to be here, even if the money isn't so good. It's 8 minutes from my house, you couldn't ask for a better supervisor, only downfall is nights. NOBODY wants to work nights, and we need the help, so if you get in touch with nurse recruitment and tell them you are willing to work nights, maybe they will get you in. Let me know how it goes. As for maternity, I don't know what the requirements are. I really only go there to bring a baby over or a patient after they deliver, and they have a different supervisor. Sorry.
  5. a1 mom - I work at SNCH. What area are you looking to go into? I work in L&D.
  6. I am an RN at an OB/GYN office and they have put me in charge of a project to create a "congratulations on being pregnant/welcome to our office" gift bag/basket/kit" of some sort. Anyone have any websites or info on where I can get ideas to create such a thing? All ideas welcome! Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks LadyJane. I know it's my negative self talk that ALWAYS makes me feel like I can't do something, and it's up to it's old tricks again. When I spoke with one of my coworkers at the hospital I do L&D at about my fears, she said "are you sure you can do this? You are still a new nurse, you seem very overwhelmed by this, are you sure you want to add this stress into your life?" So, of course all I have been doing is obsessing about those words, and I know this will ultimately be my demise until I read your encouraging words, so THANKS! I CAN DO THIS!
