Keep banging your head against that wall then....maybe you will begin to realize RNs generally aren't motivated initially by $$...they generally want to provide CARE for people and to heal patients, I know I do. Your reasoning is nothing but an excuse, there's nothing in it that speaks to exploring creative solutions for the hospitals and the RNs it employs. That's the poorest of reasoning arriving at the simplest solution. No thought given to the the human cost to the patients or nurses. Cold, hard, dollars...I pity the patient in your hospital. You (or whomever you speak for) apparently see patient care in dollars and figures, while it's really about people...patients and workers. How about bringing that into the calculation? There's a reason that health care sucks in the US...this is a big part of it AFAIC. People are not figures on a computer screen. They're flesh and blood and heart and soul. This is a sad situation made worse every day by the lazy bean counters and execs.

I just started in med surg, with 10 months in rehab under my belt (that's all). Your title for the thread made me think of conflict, specifically the word collide. What exactly did you mean?

Exactly my feeling about Saunders. It's only good for content. I took Kaplan and almost all the questions require higher level analysis. Saunders do not...even their "Analysis" questions. I take the NCLEX on June 17. The Kaplan classmates that I've spoken to have been getting very difficult, 75 question tests, which suggests they are staying in the passing range. If they're low O2 you have to get it up someway. I was taught to give the higher O2 but watch LOC and reduce O2 if LOC diminishes...this in case of low PaO2, high PaCO2.

State approval of a school's nursing program by the BON is NOT accreditation. If you want to continue to an advanced degree make sure the program is accredited by the NLN or the other nursing accreditation board (can't think of the name).

..they are actually NICE at Exempla, St. Joes... "nice"...what the heck does that mean?...the pay is good, the training is cutting edge??? Nice???

they have accreditation through career schools and schools of technology...they are not accredited with either national nursing accreditation agencies. paul
