I agree with the previous post: most schools will give you an idea of what they are looking for, e.g. what are your career goals/how will this degree help you achieve them, etc.

I would suggest talking with the surgeons rounding in your unit (assuming you take care of surgical patients) and asking if they would allow you to observe. Once in the OR, you'll have the opportunity to "network" and potentially secure a preceptor if your interested in doing more than just observing.
