  1. :idea:This is merely what I glean from your unit initials. CVRR = cardiovascular recovery room? vs. CVICU = cardiovascular intensive care Most programs prefer the ICU experience, and discount recovery room or PACU experience. If you want to be "appealing" to CRNA programs, probably the ICU route is better. Best of Luck!
  2. My undergrad gpa is not the best. I plan on taking core courses that are pre-reqs for the program prior to applying to "prove" that I want to take this seriously. How much do admissions boards look at certifications? Should I try to get my CCRN as another feather in my cap prior to application? I know every little bit helps, but if I have ACLS, PALS, TNCC and FCCS, will CCRN make that much of an impression? Sage wisdom encouraged! Thanks in advance!
  3. I've heard that the "magic GRE" number for getting admission boards to look at you is over 1000. Take heart. My BSN was 16 yrs ago and it was a 2.69. I am planning on taking some of the pre-req program core courses before interviewing to bolster my chances. This will require relocation to the other side of the state, new job, new place to live, no friends, etc. Here's hoping that if I work my tail off, it will be appreciated, and I will get in. Best of luck!
  4. I'm sure that many (including me) read your post and wish they were worried about such things. You have an excellent blend of experience and scores. As long as you talk a good game in the interview (practice in front of the mirror!) you'll be fantastic! Best of luck!
  5. I found this question funny. I found myself looking around the room (with just me in it) saying everyone?....lol. I will be 39 in Dec. I intend to apply next Aug. and "officially" start the program the next June, I believe, which will (taking off my socks to count this high) I will be 42 or 43 when I graduate. Remember the story about the 80 year old woman taking Hebrew classes. A fellow classmate asked her what she was doing taking classes at her age, and she looked at the person and plainly said, "It's the only age I have left.". No matter what AGE you will be when you graduate, you will be that age ANYWAY. Food for thought....yummy snacks all around. Best of luck to all!
  6. Take Heart! I am also looking to relocate, but need a dog walker! Things you can do are work 8 hour shift nights close to home, sleep while your child is at school, and be able to be up after school to have dinner together and spend the evening together. This does require a trustworthy teen and possibly an older neighbor who can be a resource if your child "gets scared" while you are at work. A child will remember the house you will get, but will place much more value on the time you spend with them. "We had a small house, but Mom made it feel like home", or "Mom worked hours that made ME feel important, so she could come to my games or have dinner together". Please don't let your job take your family. Many people sacrifice one for the other, and while it IS a profession, and some say a calling, it's still a JOB. Please take my best wishes for strength and courage with you in your travels! Amy S.
