  1. You're right, it's just so technical and detail oriented how one has to answer these questions. I was unaware of any nurse dimensions, and to be frank, all I do is patient care, and that's all I know. I was never involved in committee's, nor did I structure any policies on a unit level. I'm certain I'm not the only one who feels this way with this onboarding process, but I guess this is how the VA works. It's just very... stress inducing to think that this portfolio, or more specifically these last few questions dictate my pay.
  2. Background: I'm a 16 year seasoned ED nurse, obtained my BSN in 2013, and have been a traveler for a good portion of my career. I've signed on to the VA and they've hired me for a different position (case manager) that I requested at a recent job fair. I've had trouble completing the last portion of my NPSB package that pertains to professional development, practice/scientific inquiry, and collaboration. I've been stumped on this for the past week and finished it up last night, thinking I could submit today, but then I googled around for what answers NPSB may be expecting and now I feel like I need another week to finish this package. Ultimately, my question is can I just omit these last questions and still get a nurse II? Is this possible? Has anyone had this happen?

    Hey all, I'm trying to get my application submitted for various contracts, but some hospitals are requiring CPI, which I don't have (I've been using MAB for all the hospitals I've been working at in the Southern California region for the last 8 years). I googled CPI certification and crisisprevention.com pops up and they are charging upwards of $1,400-$3,000 for a 2-4 day class. Uhhhh, that seems way too much for this type of cert, especially when I get my MAB for $50. Does anyone know of any other places to get this certification? I stumbled upon another website, crisisconsultantgroup.com but I'm not sure if they are accredited, it does say their certs "align with Joint Commission, CARF, CMS, DOE & Others," but I'm not sure if this wording is trying to cover up that this might not be actual CPI cert that is required by hospitals. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Update: I called my employer and the person in charge is unavailable until tomorrow, but I did follow up with the department of workers comp, and a rep instructed that I call the hospital and request a letter of denial from my employer. I did so and the hospital finance department lady stated they do not have a written letter of denial from my employer (she sounded defensive). She went on to say "It was a verbal denial," then she said "We tried contacting them, but we were unsuccessful." After that I informed them it was illegal to bill me directly without this letter (according to labor code 3751: 3751. (a) No employer shall exact or receive from any employee any contribution, or make or take any deduction from the earnings of anyemployee, either directly or indirectly, to cover the whole or anypart of the cost of compensation under this division. Violation ofthis subdivision is a misdemeanor. (b) If an employee has filed a claim form pursuant to Section5401, a provider of medical services shall not, with actual knowledgethat a claim is pending, collect money directly from the employeefor services to cure or relieve the effects of the injury for whichthe claim form was filed, unless the medical provider has receivedwritten notice that liability for the injury has been rejected by theemployer and the medical provider has provided a copy of this noticeto the employee. Any medical provider who violates this subdivisionshall be liable for three times the amount unlawfully collected, plusreasonable attorney's fees and costs.)Hopefully, once I speak with my employer all this will be taken care of.
  7. Obligated, sure. The thing I'm worried about is I was never informed by my employer to fill out any form for workers comp. So they may have the right to deny any claim. But shouldn't they be at fault for not having me fill out the correct paperwork?
  8. I had a previous needle stick with another employer (hospital employer) and I wasn't aware of any worker's comp paperwork that needed to be filled out. Everything was taken care of at that time. This time around with the registry I found out through billing, which has went through my employer and was denied, then it was sent to me. It doesn't sound right, especially when the billing department already knew to bill my employer instead of me. Also wouldn't my employer legally be entitled to having me initiate the workers comp process?
  9. I just received a bill from the hospital I was working at as a registry nurse for what I believe was a workers comp case (i got a needle stick on the job). I called the hospital and they said that my employer denied the claim three separate times. I'm in California and all employers are legally entitled to providing their employees with workers compensation. The incident happened Sept 2013, I didn't fill out any forms, but I did immediately inform my employer, and the hospital obviously knew I was being triaged as a workers comp case (how could they not). In any case, am I at fault for not filling out any forms? Is my employer at fault for not informing me regarding the workers comp process? Or even denying my claim? Any insight/input is appreciated. Thanks!
  10. If I end up back in CA I would have to drive cross country through winter, which I'm not sure is a good idea. And plus 3000 is a lot of mileage for a one way trip, but then again $704 is expensive too...
  11. I'm from California going to NY for a traveling assignment (9/30-12/27) and I'm trying to research 3 month car rentals, which are very expensive! So far I've found as low as $704/month (3 month "mini lease" option via Avis) Does anyone know any alternatives? I was considering shipping my car but that goes for at least $900 (one way) I was also thinking of buying a cheap scooter and using that before snowfall, but uncertain of how practical that would be (the commute is 10 mins via car). Any input would be appreciated!
  12. Hey everyone, I've been wanting to start working in NYC for awhile, I've gotten my NY licensure a few years ago and it's time for a renewal. I figured I should put it to use! I know it's a competitive field in the city, but I was thinking if I did registry/agency work, I can get a taste of east coast nursing, and get familiar with hospitals in the area. I've been as a RN working for the past 6 years in ER (registry for the last 2 years), albeit small community hospitals, but I believe I'm a strong, and hardworking nurse. I've also recently graduated with BSN last may (specifically to meet qualifications for magnet hospitals in the city). I would appreciate it greatly if anyone could refer registries/agencies in NYC, and any insight as to availability (consistency) of work for agency nurses. Do hospitals in the city require agency nurses to be trauma certified, or have any certificates other than PALS, ACLS, BLS? Again, any input would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Took my test today, I was asked to pat down myself, arms legs, waist, back, almost everything while the tester watched. This was after emptying my pockets, feeling in my back pockets, lifting my hair and checking around my ears and neck line........at the time I was anxious to get in and begin my test so I thought it was a hassle but when telling someone else the story, it all seemed a bit inappropriate and unusual.

  17. i havent been applying since i have not received my nys license yet. will plan on doing so when i get it. no contacts to recruiters, but i have been contacted by traveling agencies (hrn), but i dont know if they have anything to offer in nyc (for some reason i dont think nyc hospitals use travelers).

Child Abuse and Neglect, New York State | Nursing Continuing Education (CE) Course | NursingCEU.com | Wild Iris Medical Education is the link for child abuse, im not worried to take the infection control course as they do not require it until the time of hire (hopefully, the hospital will provide a class for you) i followed up with ny bon today and everything is backed up with the process of applications, they've receieved all my forms and payments (i sent out my forms oct. 8) from ca bon and my nursing school. they said it would take at least another 6 weeks to process my application. so hopefully soon i will be licensed and able to start applying. as far as moving, i haven't done so yet because i dont want to end up being jobless and paying for rent. what part of ny are you trying to relocate to phuong? if the city doesnt work out i was thinking brooklyn.

  20. so i know its hard for new grad adn/bsn people to get jobs in nyc and surrounding areas, but what if youre an adn nurse with 3 years experience of acute care? any recommendations as to what hospitals to apply to? thanks!
  21. hey phuong, yes all forms 1-3 must be filled out, and i just took the child abuse course online (they have a link for it on the nys website) the infection course is not required to get your license processed, but will be required at time of hire. i did everything a few weeks ago and im expecting it should take around 3 months or so due forms 2 and 3 being processed by my college and california state board.
  22. wow just read through this whole board... drama. haha jk so does this adn hiring apply to new grads only? because i have my adn with 1.5 years of telemetry and 1.5 years of ER from the los angeles area, and i just sent out my application for NY licensure hoping to land a job there within the next couple of months... by reading this thread it doesnt seem likely i'll be finding a job easily...
