ethical or not?
thanks for all your replies. i feel that i have more to offer to health care than fetching water and emptying bed pans which i do more often that review patients labs and meds..so ill be moving if i find the right job and im starting that process right now while still being a weekend nurse.that way, i wont be desperate enough to just grab any job that comes my way... hoping though that i will be able to find the "one job" for me. ned

"I have kids! I need to come in late, need more sick time, etc."
i totally agree that we chose to be both a nurse and a parent at the same time so we better take responsibilities.. i have a 2 and a 4 yr old and my husband is in the military. what i do is im a mom most week days and be a nurse on the weekends and pick up shifts during the week mostly 3-11 so kids get to stay in daycare for only 2h max and hubby picks them up on the way home..this means not much of a family time for us , no sats or suns to look forward to but nonetheless i get to spend almost all the holidays with them unless it falls on a weekend.if charge nurse wants me to work a holiday my come back is " :nono:NNOOOOO...why?while you guys are enjoying each fri dating out, each sat morning late in bed, each sat afternoon watching a game and each sun in church , i was working my behind off ..!" hoping that with this thread, we can each learn and gt tip how to manage family and work effectively.. ned:D

our method is not soooo green and effective!
ive seen that thermos like container and it may be expensive but its a wise investment rather than styrofoam cups that we get to tossed every 8h;one of our arn tole her that almost all of the hospitals have ditched using the styrofoam cups 14 yrs ago and you know what our don answered??:angryfire"oh,well then we'll be ditching ours to after 14 yrs.." arrghhh... ned

our method is not soooo green and effective!
i have to get better ideas than our nursing director has!!...we were using a plastic jug/pitcher for pts's use .it has a plastic liner that we change q 24h for infection control issue.now our don decided that the liner has been pretty expensive and has decided to use styrofoam cups that can only hold 500-600mls of water and is not earth friendly..it drives me crazy because i have to refill it every med pass !!!it is sooooo not working and we have already told our don about this but shes not listening..i bet we are dumping truckloads of thse styrofoam cups every day .. what do you use in your facility??? digital stimulation!!!
i need help figuring HIM out!!! i have a pt ,incomplete quad who has been started on q other hs bowel program of suppository and dig stim...some nights bowel program was not effective, so t was changed to q hs; then to our surprise the pt demanded that supp be used as prn and said that dig stim worked better for him wthout the supp; per docs approval we did it; and now this pt wanted dig stim not only q hs but twce a day when he wants it...and to our greatest surprise :yeah:our nurse manager and primary physician approved it...even though hell have result w the dig stim he would want it again and agan during the day...sometimes he had like 3-4 dig stim done; he does not want to do it himself saying he is still weak on upper ext; family is visiting and he does not want them trained doing dig stim... how frustrating can that be???...i dont know if im wrong but sometimes i would think that dig stim is giving him "another kind of satisfaction":angryfire..why else wound he want a finger up his orifice that frequent???? arrghhhh!!!! :bowingpur

hello hhc nurses, im working in a rehab weekends and pick up shifts during the weekdays;i want to try this branch of nursing- hhc ; i was reading some of the posts here but some just confused me plus i have 10000001 questions in mind.. :) heres some if it : #1 how physical is hhc nursing?..am i expected to do lifting, turning? #2 i read that there is no weekends and holidays only on call ,so how many % possible that i would get calls on weekends ,nights or holidays? #3 would my salary offset /make up/top off/equal the ones im making in the hospital?...(im making 25/h right now) #4 how risky is it?..(going into other peoples' houses) im really interested doing hhc but it seems that i would be groping in the dark if i would just suddenly jump into it... please help.. edyrn
