  1. I am an experienced RN working at Vandy, and $17 to start is pretty accurate. Although the pay tends to be lower (I took a $5 paycut to work there), the benefits package, advancement, continuing ed, and overall work environment do make up for it.
  2. I work in the ED of a children's hospital, and we regularly use Propofol and Ketamine for our conscious sedations. In our facility, an RN is authorized to push the drug with an MD (preferably and attending) in the room. We are required to complete additional training from the hospital in order to do this, though. Don't know if this helps or not.
  3. Hi Tweety- I know that this is an old post, but I wondered if you got the type of response that you were looking for. I actually took it and passed it the first time, and didn't have to do the re-test, but I really don't think that the test measures any amt of knowledge (kind of like the NCLEX!). My advice to you is when taking the test, be VERY specific...list everything that you would do (like start O2, turn off med, take vital signs..). Even though all of that is very obvious, that's what they are looking for. Good luck!
  4. I am in Northern IN and as a new grad started at $20/hr and increase to $23/hr after NCLEX. How about the rest of you?
  5. Scoobydoo- Calm down! the # of questions really does NOT matter! I passed with 75, and a classmate got 265 and passed. Cross your fingers and think happy thoughts! Good luck!
  6. Hi All! I'm Amanda, newly graduated in May, working in the ED at a Level 2 trauma ctr. Just took NCLEX on 7/20 and found out this am that I passed! YIKES! Nervous, but loving it!
  7. I feel for you. My first CA death was my grandmother from Lung CA--I was her hospice nurse 4 months prior to graduating. It's an awful way to pass, that's for sure. Just know that it's perfectly "normal" (hate that word!) to be shaken by such a scene. Take some time to reflect on it, write about our feelings, and certainly talk about it! The images will fade with time, and just know that you did a wonderful job helping this pt and her family!
