Hello! I just had a brief interview and writing assignment on Saturday, March 14th. I was interviewed by two professors of my specific option and was asked 4 general questions about myself. The writing assignment was about your view of the NP role. The experience wasn't that bad at all. I'm told the status will be notified by April 28th. Good luck everyone!

I just got through a 20-30ish minute phone interview with one of the PMHNP facility members this morning. She was very nice, polite, soft spoken, and understanding. She has a very packed schedule. She appreciated my flexibility with her demanding schedule. Questions include my application, my psych experience, why I wanted to be a PMHNP, my understanding of the PMHNP role, expectations of the program, psychotherapy, and my future goals. I felt confident about the interview. She said all the PMHNP applicants will be interviewed and notified by early April via (e)mail. First day of school starts in September and the program can be completed 2 years full time. Although working while schooling is not encouraged, many students work part time while schooling full time. al_eRN: Any updates on your status?

I don't know if all the PMHNP applicants are being interviewed. I didn't expect to have this interview opportunity. What a surprise! My application was submitted before the priority deadline. This is the email I received from last night: Greetings, I am one of the faculty at UCSF in the PMHNP program. Your application has been reviewed and advanced to the interview process and I have the privilege of contacting you for a phone or Skype/FaceTime interview at your earliest convenience. I am available tomorrow evening after 7pm or Tuesday anytime but 10-12. Would either of these days be possible for you? You may email or text me re: your availability. I look forward to meeting you soon!

My status update: One of the PMHNP faculty members emailed me late last night requesting to schedule a phone interview with me. Wow! I don't know what to expect!

Here’s My Experience - May 2014: Request for transcript forms completed and forwarded directly from the nursing schools with certified transcripts. I attended an ADN program and two BSN programs all located in Texas. (I failed myself out of BSN program #1, transferred some of my nursing credits over to the ADN program, and graduated with an ADN and a BSN from a BSN program #2.) Total number of transcripts: 3 - Tuesday, June 10th, 2014: I flew to San Francisco, California to do a Live Scan fingerprint process and mailed in my application at one of their UPS locations. -Saturday, June 28th, 2014: Electronically sent my Nursys License Verification. - Tuesday, July 15th, 2014: My check was deposited. - Monday, July 28th, 2014: I received an email from Department of Consumer Affairs Online Service to update my email address associated with my Online Services Account. At that time, I had no idea I was automatically in the BreEZe system the day my check was deposited. - Thursday, September 18th, 2014: At 1000 Central Time, I called California BRN at 1-800-838-6828 to check the status of my application. I waited 10-15 minutes for my call to be answered. A polite and helpful older lady named Gayle (spelling?) told me: - They are working on all of the mid-June applications at this time (including mine). - My Live Scan fingerprints are received and cleared. She said the background check is the "biggest hurdle to overcome." - I have no deficiencies. I submitted everything they requested. - Check back with them 2-3 weeks from now. The application process should be completed by then. - Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014: Application complete! I’m officially endorsed!

How are you liking Kingwood? Do you still work there?

I don't know about now, but back in my day (Fall 2008), it wasn't all that difficult to be admitted into the program. This program was also easier for me to get in versus other Texas BSN programs. I didn't have an outstanding GPA. Mine was 3.00ish. I knew others who were accepted with a much lower GPA than mine. The more prereqs you completed, the better chance of being accepted. Of course, the higher your GPA, the better.
