Anyone hear from Columbia
Congrats to all of you who got accepted to Columbia!! That's really awesome. I was wondering if you guys could give any advice- I'm planning on applying to Columbia for their CRNA program starting summer of 2011. If you could just give me some info on GPA, GRE score, whether or not you have a CCRN, years of experience, letters of recommendation (who did you use), or anything else you think would be helpful, I would really appreciate it. I've had 2 years critical care MICU/SICU experience (and before that 1.5 years of ER-although I know that doesn't count) and carry a 3.7 GPA from NYU's BSN program. I have my CCRN and will take the GRE in the summer. Just looking for what others were accepted with. Thanks, and again, congrats!

nclex exam
yeah, there are lots of reasons for what could have happened. it has nothing to do with your capabilities as a nurse whatsoever. i'm sure you're an excellent nurse. my last piece of advice would be to study the content you know you're weak on first and then move onto answering as many questions/ day as you possibly can. if you feel like you're guessing on something or you got something wrong then go back and restudy that material. it will stick eventually. DO NOT kill yourself over studying tons and tons of medications. there are too many of them and chances are they're going to give you random ones anyways, so, just know the really important ones and any others that you remember is great. one book that did help me a lot with understanding certain content (like endocrine, etc.) was the incredibly easy nclex rn book with 3500 questions in it. i would pick out a chapter on something i didn't understand or was getting a lot of questions wrong on and i would do that chapter. it has all the explanations and everything. other than that, just do questions (like those from kaplan, or i heard lipponcott was good). you will do great the next time around. good luck!

nclex exam
what kinds of things did you do to prepare? i used the kaplan course and the qbank and qtrainer and i passed. tthe types of questions on the nclex are very very hard, and it is difficult to prepare for it, but i thought that kaplan did a very good job of giving me the content in the beginning and then teaching me how to do well on the quetions...even if i didn't know what the hell they were talking about. let me know what your thoughts are...you'll be an rn before you know it!

Just took boards yesterday!!!
my test sounded exactly like yours. tons of meds that i'd never heard of before, lots of priority questions...cut off at 75, was positive (i mean positive) that i had failed. i even started to look up things about re registering and how long i had to wait to take it again. found out today i passed. the harder the questions, the better. if you were sitting there like "what the...????" then that's a good sign, even though it doesn't feel very good. the test is designed to make you think you did your worst. try to relax, i know waiting is the hardest. let us know how it turns out! good luck!

Just took it. Blah.
i took my exam tuesday and the comp shut offafter 75 questions...definitely thought i failed, and EVERY question i could even remotely remember i had gotten wrong. and i got the last question wrong. i passed. you'll be fine. i had some easy ones in there too, but you never know...i felt that the majority of my questions were difficult. but then when i got out i flipped out because all i could think was that hose were the easy questions and i just didn't know anything and got them all wrong. not the case. anyways, people who pass the exam only get a little bit over 50% correct, so, the ones that you can remember that you got wrong are absolutely not going to tell you anything. you usually only remember the questions that give you problems anyways....good luck. the waiting is the hardest and pretty soon you'll be able to RN next to your name!!!:balloons:

RN finally!!! i passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i JUST found out from quickresults that i passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was so confident that i had failed that i was ready to start studying again. literally. i'm not kidding. but, through the two days of waiting...this forum really helped. thank you all so much for any kind or supportive word you threw my way or anyone else's way (you can be sure i read them:-) to all of you who are about to take the exam: you will get through it, and in this case, you're gut feeling that you've failed is probably wrong. :balloons::balloons::balloons:

Just took NCLEX... Feel like I failed...
i know exactly how you feel. i took the exam on tuesday and walked out shaking so hard that i couldn't even get the key in the locker...i was crying, nauseated, restless, etc. for two days. today i found out i passed...which, i still can't believe. i was so sure i failed that i even had all the paperwork out to re register, and was about to call kaplan to try and get someone to help me...i mean, i REALLY thought i failed...so, you're not alone. it's actually a good sign that you feel this way, means the questions were hard...please, i know it's hard, but try to do something nice for yourself. get your mind off it if you can. the results will be here soon...and then you'll be fine. you'll be fine either way. good luck! let me know how it turns out

75 questions...
what kinds of things did you do to prepare for the first one? and you're not dumb...this is not a reflection on you as a person or as a nurse...i'm sure that some of the best nurses out there didn't pass the nclex on their first try...it's a hard exam. don't beat yourself up about it. hold your head up high! in 6 months, this won't even be a blip on your radar.
