So sorry Moe about the gender issue. Yes, I have been working with alot of male Rns, CNA,s and LPN's lately. I am very very happy that more men are entering the nursing field. All the men I have been working with are middle age, went back to school to make this career change and are so appreciative of the nursing profession compared to working in a factory type job. ... I too was an LPN before going back to school and becoming an RN. Like a fool, I retired my LPN license and just pay the RN license. You can also look a patient like this man firmly in the eye and state" That is inappropriate behavior and not acceptable, I will be back to take care of you when you calm down and leave for about 10 to 15 minutes and return with another staff member making this gentleman an assist of 2 for cares. Share in care conference and care plan this man's negative behavior so everyone on your staff is on the same page on how to react when he acts out in negative ways. Good Luck and glad you survived

Solution, get a mechanical lift " sit to stand lift" and have a volunteer with CNA background or retired nurse background that needs to be useful trained to use it on demanding patients that have to go now. The volunteer can do so much more as to sit and stay with the person to prevent getting up on own and falling. Of course you will be reponsible for the volunteer actions so good to be the volunteer a few times to make sure the volunteer is confident. Marie

Kathryn, I went thru returning from inactive status to active status after being a stay at home Mom for 7 years. First I went to take a CPR class at our local hospital to gain alittle knowledge and confidence. Then I renewed my Nursing Journals and began reading and reading. I shared all my steps to prepare at my first job interview and was hired out of a 2 inch stack of applicants. Remember Nursing is a revolving circle that even when in practice you are constantly using reference Books attending education from insevices, Nursing Journals and now we have the internet as a resource to keep up with forever changes in the medical world. I learn something new everyday that I go to work from fellow nurses, patients, and Doctors. So keep up. And this is my first post on this web site as I joined today!
