chronic pain patients: pain in the behind to care for
You hear of research that has proven that if the meds reach the pain level then the pt can not become addicted. Also, if the pt has true pain they can not become addicted. Is the search for right pain meds for each patient too involved or too much to actually take on in an individual basis? Does anyone out there know for sure if the actual process of pain medication research for individual patients actually been done? What was actually accomplished if so?

Best States for RN's to work?
WOW! FT. Meyers Fla? I heard lots of people moving out of the area (FL) because of cost of living. Actually, related to the what the hurricanes have done to the cost of housing too.

Best States for RN's to work?
Why don't you try a travel job in the states you are interested in? It would give you an idea how things work there without committing to a FT job that you may have regretted taking!

LPN to RN - Rue Study vs. Community College
I started working on my BSN thru Univ of Phoenix. I was half thru when my costs were already at what the quote was for the entire program and I did not feel I was learning anything. I tried to transfer to a University program and they would not accept ANY credits from U of P after all the costs I had incurred with tuition and books. My advice is attend a university and go with quality in the end!

Anyone Else Experience Mobbing?
Unfortunately mobbing can be done by one person or a group. Many times it is one person that has the stronger personality on the unit take a dislike to you and wham!! All are involve that follow their lead. They take one thing they do not like about you and blow it up, make a mountain out of a mole hill, twist the truth etc. Slam you at every chance. Poor things, it is usually the ones that are soooo unhappy with their personal lives they come to work just lying in wait for someone to pounce on. I have experienced it in my greater than 20 yrs experience as a nurse more than once! I have seen it happen to others. Infact when if I have ever changed jobs that is my biggest fear is working with that type of bully. Hospitals have HR policies that are to protect you from bullies. Guess what? They find a way to get around that. They undermine your credibility as a nurse although you have functioned perfectly well in previous settings. They go for the knees. They try to undermine your confidence and make you feel like a bit of dirt on the floor. Sad but true!!

Nurse Mobbing/bullying
I had been at a job for 3 months. My manager was out of town and there was a bit of staffing crisis which happened often. It happened often due to the fact their method of staff the unit was mass disorganization and unfair. I went to the office of my manager which she shared with another manager of a sister unit. I knocked on the door, apologized for interupting after I saw she had a hospital employee in there. I had never met her so I introduced myself and asked for my manager. She mentioned she was oot and she was on call per say. So I said I work in the such and such and there is a bit of staffing issue that was going on. She got up and went to the unit with me. It was taken care of and I thought all was well. She told my manager when she returned that I was threatening, rude and impolite when I came to the office and that she was afraid of me when I came in. She also said she thought I did not like my job because I did not smile. Mind you, I did not know here nor had ever worked with her! I was so taken back by her accusation I could have fallen over! I could not believe it!! Well From that point on it was a horrible relationship with my manager and I literally had to quit because my manager treated me so badly. It destroyed my job really. Bottom line for some reason and this is life, she just took a dislike to me. I could not do anything to repair the relationship. She treated me like I had the plague. It was terrible!!

HEY GOP: Attacking Hillary Isn't a Health Plan
in a new report, george lakoff's rockridge institute aptly describes the approach of clinton and the other top tier democrats as the "neoliberal mode of thought" in its dubious reliance on regulation and technocratic changes to an industry that needs to be dismantled, not tweaked. but at least clinton and company are talking about comprehensive reform. the republican candidates' healthcare policies recall the words attributed, probably erroneously, to marie antoinette whose infamous solution to mass shortages of bread was "let them eat cake." ...cross-posted at the [http://www.guaranteedhealthcare.org/blog national nurses organizing committee/california nurses association's] breakroom blog, as we organize to make 2007 the year of guaranteed healthcare on the single-payer model. please understand know more about your candidates means know all they stand for and represent prior to going all out for them. one good idea does not make a great candidate for president. sorry, just my opinion!

Group One background checks in Texas
Hi Everyone interested in the "GO" subject! Click onto the list above and it will take you to some interesting information on the Group One. It is saying it was started by a phys from Parkland and for the reason to protect patients and hsopitals alone. But what I understood it to be is it was started to protect pts and hospitals from unsafe health care workers! Not punitive for giving a 13 day notice and not a 14 notice like for me. Or for some of the other problems others have had. It is a shame they do not have a panel to address some of the complaints instead of all accursed are guilty. Scarry huh? I am not sure what can be done but it is sad that there is not something. Together we stand, divided we fall. I think we should ALL join TNA and see what numbers can do. If nothing then look into another route. After all, they created this organization, why can't nurses start an organization that can be used as a central employment center for recommending wht hospitals are best for who or something along that line? Let's get our thinking caps on!!!currently TX

Group One background checks in Texas
I have worked in states that had unions. They do not prevent you from working overtime. They prevent the employer from "making" yo work overtime and make sure you are paid fairly. Also, they make sure your senority is protected! There is bad and good with unions, but mainly have seen the good. There is little or no bullying. Anyone can get around contracts and rules, but it is harder with the union. At least you have a voice!

Group One background checks in Texas
You Go Girl!!!! Listen, if we do not do something it will be a shame. I am an ADN nurse, had NO idea that TNA would only allow BSN nurses join. How prejudice! After all, ADN is a stepping stone for many to get to a BSN. Is that not why they have 2 yr colleges so one can earn a 2 yr degree to go on to a 4yr college no mater what their area of study is in. That is the craziest thing I ever heard! Why are some organizations shooting themselves in the foot?

Group One background checks in Texas
Could yo please explain how the two organizations are tied in with each other and how do you access the information on line? Help anyone! I am waiting for the ax to fall, been threatened and not sure if they went thru with it. I only hope that when my manager has a family emergency she remembers how she treated me. No remorse or empathy. Probably same way she treated her patients only never got called on it.

I agree and see there is a desperate need for nursing support groups! I have witnessed far worse unprofessional conduct from the management than from the nurses where I have worked. United we stand. After all we are here for patients not power trips!

Group One background checks in Texas
Hi, I too have been threatened with the Group one thing. I had to leave for a family emergency and requested a change to prn with an angry no answer. I gave a notice of 13 days not 14 still working a 2 week schedule in that 13 days. Six 12hrs shifts. I was told and also read in your comments that you can do a check on your own record. But I am still in the dark on how to do it or who to contact. Would appreciate any information on how to do this. I am curious. They seem to be very vindicitive on nurses in state of TX. What is the deal? and What is going on here?

Hiring freezes, cut backs?
I currently work in TX in Dallas area. It is a smaller hospital and I work currently in nursery. They have typically called off nurses 1-2 shifts per week. These are 12 hr. shifts! This means less than part time. So several of the nurses have had to get second jobs. The hospital has treated everyone horribly when they find out they are working 2nd jobs. I am not sure what they expect! I know that they can not have us work when there is a low census, but do not be so offended when we are trying to make ends meet! If we work on call at any of the other sister hospitals, some of the staff feel they are cancelled more often. It is crazy because there is no staffing rules they follow. Prn will work when full time is called off. That is when a nursing organization (union) with a contract of some kind would be benificial. There is always a way to get around various rules but at least it would be a start.
