hey all! applied to columbia, upenn, new britain, oakland university,and umdnj for fall 2009 i can't stand the wait! so far have an interview with new britain for next week... good luck to everyone!

where is your experience? i went right into ccu from school so my advice is to try it...you can always transfer out if it's not for you ccu is intense,scary, difficult...very sick pts...but usually interesting if you are up for a challenge and take your work seriously then go for it

hey all if anyone wouldn't mind, just wondering if you current/accepted SRNAs would post your stats that got you into school...GRE, GPA, ICU experience, etc. especially any east coasters-UMDNJ, columbia, penn, new britain, fairfield, etc. in the process of applying and getting nervous! thanks!!!

yes, columbia presbyterian medical center has an icu internship program that hires new grads into its 5 ICUs...i actually did this and have been working in ccu for the last year. i think they already chose their new group for august though...

hi columbia presbyterian has a nurse intern program for new grads who want to work in ICU. you have to apply and interview twice, it is very competitive and they only take 10-12 people, 2 for each adult ICU. it is a great program though if you are interested in adult critical care. also their ICUs are very high acuity so be prepared. other than that, most hospitals only hire new grads into step-down units with the chance to transfer to ICU after 6months to 1 year. If you have a senior clinical or externship in ICU you may be able to talk your way into ICU interviews at NYU or NY Methodist. Good luck!

Hi I am currently orienting on the cardiac step down unit at NYP-columbia and I love it. The nurses there are wonderful and the overall culture of the unit is very welcoming. They all seem to get along very well together. I am actually going to CCU but I would recommend this unit if you want to stay in the same area. Good luck!

Hi I would definitely recommend getting your BSN over your ASN. I just graduated from NYU's 2nd degree BSN program, and I know Hunter College also has a BSN program, as well as Columbia. Have you looked into Malloy? I think they have one too. If you decide to pursue a graduate degree in nursing you will have to go back to school (again!) to finish your BS if you only do an ASN. Also, some hospitals do not hire ASN nurses anymore (NYU Tisch, Mt. Sinai, Cornell). Just my 2 cents. :)

Hi Just found out I passed so I wanted to give ya'll an idea what my Kaplan scores were: Qbank 61% QT1 62% QT2 64% QT3 52% QT4 62% QT5 65% QT6 64% QT7 63% I passed with 75 questions. My advice is to do all question trainers, qbank, and redo incorrect qbank questions. really try to understand rationales for questions you got wrong. also study diseases/drugs that keep coming up on kaplan-addison's, sickle cell, cushings, beta blockers, antipsychotics, TB, hip replacements, traction, etc. Good luck!!

well I can officially say now that I passed (YAY!!!) and my Qbank was 61%. Definitely try to redo as many incorrect questions as you can and read the rationales. Study the diseases that pop up over and over on Kaplan and do the rest of the Question Trainers. I think as long as you remain in the 60's you'll be fine. Good luck!

moetiny I took NCLEX yesterday and I'd say the questions were similar to Kaplan question trainers but harder. the answers were not as simple or clear as Kaplan. just keep studying! sure you'll do great :)

Hi My Qbank was 61%, QT1-7 ranged from 62-65% and I took it yesterday and shut off at 75 questions. I'll let you know tomorrow whether or not I passed! The wait is killing me! I do have friends that passed with low 60's in all kaplan tests so you are probably doing okay.

I also had a lot of select all that apply. shut off with 75 and still waiting to find out if I passed AHH!! Hopefully we all did!

Thank you for the insight! I finally decided and chose CCU we do actually have a SICU, MICU, NeuroICU, and CTICU at our hospital (very very large teaching hospital in NYC) so I don't know if I'll get such a variety of patients, but they will definitely be sick as this hospital is known for high acuity ICUs looking forward to joining the CCU world of nursing...!!!!

Alright, NCLEX is monday, here are my Kaplan Question Trainer scores: 1-62% 2-64% 3-52% 4-62% 5-65% 6-64% My qbank cumulative ended up around 61%. Anyone out there have similar scores and pass? I am really nervous!

thanks for your posts! I'll pray for you to pass too! As for what is qbank, it is an online question bank developed by Kaplan that you have access to by taking their NCLEX review course and paying a fee. Our school required that we take it so I utilized the question bank. I have heard that these questions are most similar to NCLEX questions. ??? Guess I'll find out!
