  1. Can anyone tell me about their experience working at Marionjoy as a registered nurse? Santefe
  2. I've heard good things about Mary Birch, thanks I'll try it.
  3. Hi Hannahrn, Thank-you for replying. Yes I'm looking for a position, I love NICU. I live in Chicago presently. I was out in California in January to do a job search. I have six years of Level III NICU in large teaching hospitals but I took 6 years off to go back to school for a bachelor's and raise my son. It's been impossible to get back into NICU here in Chicago, but I did several years Level III NICU in So. Ca. and thought I would try to see if there would be anyone willing to hire me after having been out for 6 years. I had several interviews. Only MCH gave me a warm response. I would love to know of anyone who would be interested. I'm looking for anything south of San Louis Obispo down to San Diego. I know how hard it is to get back in, I hope my passion for the field shows through my interviews. I would appreciate anything you can offer. Thank-you Santefe
  4. What opinions do you have on working in the NICU at Millers? It's such a large unit and the preceptorship seems like a very long time (52) weeks? for an experienced NICU nurse. Management? Pay and benefits?
  5. I think you took that wrong, it was meant as an encouraging sentiment. I wasn't questioning your skills or knowledge.
  6. Your intelligent and wise. Your humor is your strength. It will give you your courage. (QUOTE) "THE BIKE RIDE" Santefe

  9. Hello Ohio, I'm from Illinois and just completed an RN refresher course. I started looking into taking a refresher course since I've been out of the hospital for six years. Try calling community colleges-that's where almost all of them take place. Call the workforce development department. They usually have them two or three times a year. I started calling thenearest one's and than going 50-75 miles away. There are only a few community colleges that offer them and they last about 10 to 12 weeks; with clinicals once a week at a nearby hospital. If there is nothing close to you may want to think about traveling to the closest place that offers one. The cost is anywhere between $1,300-$1,800for the 10-12 weeks. This includes theory class's and your clinical day only. Something else you will need to know: What are the preregs: It will cost more to have your own liability insurance; books; uniforms; and up-to-date immunizations mandated by the hospital you will be doing your clinicals at. Good Luck, Santefe
  10. I have kept my Illinois and Ccalifornia license current. I wanted to get a bachelor's degree to complete a higher level of education. My college advisor suggested I look into a B.S. program in Public Health or administration since I have an interest in disease management and an interest in the business side of medicine. She said I would have more opportunities to choose a greater number of courses from business and education departments that would round out a fuller knowledge base that is more limited in the bachelors' in nursing. I looked at the school's catalog and agreed. I have been able to take more management, marketing and health education courses with the dual degree. It has allowed me to take courses that are limited to business and education majors. It is taking a longer time period than I originally intended so I have only been working part-time for a solo practioner. Ideally I would like to work case management, ICU hospital nursing or senior assisted living residence facility.
  11. I really appreciated your answering my question...thank-you very much.
  12. times roman Can anyone tell me if it is a requirement or mandate for a registered ICU nurse with 20 years experience but who has not actively practiced nursing since 1999 to go through an RN refresher course? I have been going to school to get my Bachelors in Health Administration and Public Health but would like to work in nursing part time. Are there options for me to consider that would welcome my experience? I am 49 and wonder if there are nursing avenues that would welcome an experienced nurse more so than hospitals who are pursuing new graduates. Does anyone know of specific hospitals who welcome experienced older nurses?
