  1. I, too, was doing a nursing search on Google and found this site!
  2. Well... definitely check into the state where you are going to be camp nurse. I live in Ohio - bordering West Virginia. My kids are in band and go to a camp in West Virginia (about an hour down the highway). This summer, I was one of the band camp volunteer nurses... never even thought about the fact that the camp was in W Va.... I volunteer as one of the band nurses all the time - go to football games and band competitions with the kids.... never even gave the fact that I was volunteering with my OHIO band - but in W VA. Well, a few days before we are to leave for camp, it hit me that we were going out of state. I callled the W VA board of nursing, and, sure enough, I needed to be licensed in W VA.. even though this was strictly a volunteer position - no pay at all!! Luckyily, I was able to procure a temporary license in 2 days - I was willing to drive to the Board office and do my paperwork in person. So... always make sure you know the rules i the state you are going to!!!
  3. Hi Sparklecat and welcome to the forum. I am in a similar situation to you. I have been out of the hospital for a little over 13 years. In that time, I have kept up my license and have worked for a home medical supply company (part-time) doing home visits on their home oxygen customers. this job does very little to maintain my skills (except in cardiac/respiratory assessments), I do not deal with medications, lab work or any procedures. Even though I have kept up my license, and have been working... I feel I am totally unprepared to re-enter the hospital. I worked for 12 years in various MICU/CICU settings and would like to do that kind of work again. I live in a very small town ( Good luck and I hope we both find what we are looking for!!
  4. Thanks to all of you who have posted suggestions!! I am going to act of some of these ASAP!! If anyone has any more suggestions - I'd love to hear them. Thanks again!
  5. I have not worked in the hospital setting for about 13 years and am looking for a refresher course. I live in Southeast Ohio (not near any major colleges, universities or teaching hospitals). For the past 8 years I have been working for a home medical supply company - doing home visits which include equipment checks and respiratory assessments on the patients. I would like to re-enter the hospital in the next year as my children are in high school and I am looking to help pay college expenses. Any ideas where to look for courses. I have done a quick internet search but really haven't come up with much. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
