  1. I just want to pass
  2. I spoke with the admissions adviser yesterday at my school. She said they have plenty of seats open for January. Its also 1st come 1st serve. If you recieve a C or lower in A&P, you can take Excelsior challenge test, any passing grade and they will accept. There are many BMCC former students there. My only recommendation is that your work schedule had a impact that didn't allow you to get good grades. When you get into the Nursing program, make changes before you start. Nursing school is 10 times harder and there is no forgiveness. Don't give up
  3. After reading all these high GPA, I don't know how I made it in the accelerated program. My school is a 2 yr ADN, however if you apply and get selected for the summer, you'll finish in 16 months. I got chosen. I only had a 3.0, 24 student was selected and I was number 24. Nobody wanted to go to school during the summer. I would of easily got kick out the program. Anyother person who would of apply would have took my spot. Now everybody who didn't apply wish they would of applied. Whats awesome about the summer is, nobody out of 10 yrs never failed the course during the summer. Nobody is going to fail this summer also.
  4. When I called the school, the recording mention that its not accepting application at this time, the 1st semester starts in Sept.09. Remember one thing about CUNY schools, you must go there a semester before you enter the nursing program.
  5. I have a few friends who went to NASNA meeting. There were many Representative from different hospitals. Talking about networking, although they haven't finish yet, they'll remember you. That is what happen at the meetings last summer. Some of them got jobs for extern ships because of networking, some got calls 4 to 3 months early for jobs offers when they graduate. It can't hurt, there are several of my classmates are going to a Meeting at Mount Sinai for NASNA this Friday, the real reason there going because all of them want to start working there after they graduate this December. I say Go, get info, have fun, give us some salaries offer when you get back. I would like to know
  6. i'm happy that you went to school when it wasn't so difficult. now all cuny nursing programs are difficult to get in. suddenly in the past 3 to 4 yrs nursing school became difficult to get in. everyone is changing careers. now cuny schools is one of the most difficult schools to get in now. wow, you graduated with a bsn 5 yrs ago. i'm happy for you.
  7. For there RN to BSN, there is no waiting list. However for there traditional BSN, its not competive yet because hardly anyone is aware of it. The cuny school Hunter, everyone knows about it and its difficult to get in. So if anyone wants to try to get into a BSN program that is not expensive, now is the time to do so. I feel eventually it will be like Hunter, also then there will be a waiting list on there RN to BSN program.
  8. Do you know the requirements? Or where did you get your info, I was wondering do they have a brocher or something
  9. No worries, when I was going to school the next day, a fellow student who ride with me to clinicals also read my post. They explain to me what union hospital mean, in other words she was laughing the entire trip to clinicals that day. I'm happy I made you smile
  10. I'm doing my Clinical there now during the summer, I think the environment is awesome. But my clinical is in Pediatric right now, and I haven't been on a Med Surge floor. If the pay was higher and it was in NYC I most definitely would have apply to go there. They have every specialty you can think of there, it also a teaching hospital. They even have the nurses who bring Patients from helicopter. Like Wsmith16 said, you should find the salaried in the sticky
  11. I was calling York college to ask for info on there RN to BSN program. However to my surprise, on there phone message, they said that they're going to open a new program for those who want to become a nurse. It didn't say if it was a ADN or BSN program. It will start Sept. 09, but they are not accepting applications or inquiries at this time. But those who want to go there, it is usually one catch with cuny's schools. You usually need to go there a Semester before you start there nursing program. In other words, you need to transfer there this January. PS - have anyone heard of there RN to BSN program? is there a waiting list?
  12. There is about 8 or 9 cuny schools that don't require Biology to take A&P. Some of them may require one Chemistry course but you need that anyway. The only thing the Biology help you with if your applying to a PA program.
  13. Wow, where is Union Hospital, I'll gradatuate this December. $69k sounds good to me.
  14. I attend Cochran school of nursing in Yonkers, If all goes well. I'll be finish in Dec.08
  15. Are any of you EC grades are going to do your BSN through EC? I'm thinking that is one of the best ways to go.
  16. I think with the RN to BSN its not that competitive to get in. Only the traditional program you need a extremely high GPA. I'm also concern about clinical days and how many days you have to go to school for the RN to BSN. I was thinking about Excelsior.
  17. I heard the same thing that Wsmith16 mention. You also have to weigh everything out. Aldephi is a BSN, but its for 2 1/2 yrs. The other is a ADN but only 2 yrs. I'm only going to be in school for 16 months to get a ADN, I already feel that I can't go longer than that. 2 1/2 yrs is a long time and alot of money.
  18. whoofers, Although you believe they won't change the law to allow more nursing schools. You also mention that you'll look like not a team player for not working overtime. To me as long as they can't fire me, myself and other nurses can't do it everytime. They'll have to figure something out. PS - I'm not a nurse yet, but Sept. is my last semester
  19. I go to a different school but they usually place you on the days they want you to have. However I ask if I could go on another day with another group and they were going to allow it. Maybe they'll do the same for you.
  20. Wow, thats great, I used to work at a job when the employer can mandate you to work extra hours. I didn't enjoy it at all. Maybe this can spin off to solve other nursing issues. Since they can't mandate us and they need more nurses. Maybe they'll look into how to open more nursing schools help solve the shortage.
  21. If you know any students who is ahead of you, ask them. They'll tell you if its do able about having another job. Example, at my school, the 1st semester you can survive with a job. Every student told me during the 2nd semester(medsurge), not to work. They were RIGHT. Students in Nassau is your best resource. PS. Make sure you enjoy your summer. Once school starts, you won't have that much time for fun. Congrats on being accepted.
  22. I agree, I wouldn't take any job that is demanding, I found out the hard way and my grades suffered in Med Surge. I made adjustments and I pass. I study a University in LI. The security guard there have a desk, nobody disturbs him for 8 hrs. No noise, If you can get a job like that, it will be perfect (you can study and get paid).I wouldn't worry about getting experience during clinicals, that will come. Also as I recall, those who were CNA did not have a advantage on the Careplans you have to turn in. The important things is not getting on the job training, its having the time to pass the class. I never heard faculty encourage getting a CNA job will help you pass. The less stressful job, the better. I know many Falculty encourage not to work. I know many of us have to work, you should try to see if your job support you in passing your class 1st. Once you quit and take that demanding CNA job, it might not be no turning back. It can fail you and that can be your new career. (no offense to CNA).
  23. I see there are many women nurses feel this subject isn't a big deal. Well, I'm a nursing student in NYC, I'm currently taking Maternity this summer. So far, I been kick out, or ask not to come in because I'm a Male nursing student. So far i haven't done a physical assessment on any of the patients who had just had a baby or the new admission. The closest I got was to watch a assessment. But in New York City there are many cultures that don't want a male nurse examing them. I'm actually is going to pass this class, and in clinicals, I have not done all the basics. Sometimes its the instructor that suggests that won't allow me to the assessment. One time the male members of the family thought that I was the doctor, they didn't mind me going to attend there family member. But as soon as they found out that I was a nursing student. They didn't allow me to go in. It was nothing against me, but there culture, it wasn't approipiate. Is it my fault, the school fault, or the hospital fault, who knows, but it is a issue sometimes. I know there are many examples that its not, but its more of a issue of males attending female patients over female attending male patients.
  24. I didn't know it was a new program. I say, do like Nitingale, apply to Touro and any other school, it can't hurt. Also since it new, they want people to succeed.
  25. Just call this number 914-964-4358 or email [email protected] and they'll set you up for a TEAS test. Ususally there they schedule the test on Thurs and Fri, but for now since they'll trying to fill seats. They are doing some Saturdays. If you have problems, PM me.
