  1. hello everyone. i'm about to take the nclex lvn/lpn in about a month. does anyone have tips they could share about how to prepare? i have about three or four nursing cds which i've done but i feel like i've forgotten everything i've learned. it's been at least 5 months since i've graduated and i have no idea where five months have gone to be quite honest. so now i have to cram everything into 1 month. i'm not so sure how i should cram 1 years of work into 1 month of studying. should i reread my nursing books? just look over notes? or do the powerpoints? should i read my review books? or just do nclex questions? how much time should i spend on a topic? how many questions should i be doing per day? did anyone make a calender? how did you organize your time? how did you figure out which systems to study first? do you do questions first? do you just reread old books? i'm also really bad with memorizing medications.. their adverse effects and side effects. i don't feel like i really learned the medications.... i feel like i slacked off in preparing and so i feel like i forgot all of the information and have to relearn everything. i'm kind of scared and i haven't had much contact with people who have already passed the nclex from my school. basically, i feel alone and need some tips. people have told me oh review all the a/p. know the abnormals and normals. read everything line by line and then do nclex questions. just do nclex questions. do at least 200 questions a day. is this reasonable? enough preparation? thanks for your tips!
  2. hello everyone. i'm an lpn student and i'm having trouble with my neuro sensory unit exams. can anyone recommend any websites or books or just links or tips? that would help a lot. i am also having trouble with fluid and electrolytes. i don't understand how to differentiate uncompensated and compensated when there are lab values concerning oxygen.
  3. hello. does anyone know how to make the nclex lpn exam cram cd compatible with windows 7? my computer which runs on windows 7 isn't reading the cd... i think the cd is only compatible with windows xp and below. is there a program that works to convert the cd? thanks.
  4. hey what year were the books you studied from? i can only go to the library which has books made in 2005/2006... but thanks for your help anyway.
  5. hello everyone. i am kind of worried that my school doesn't prepare us very well for the nclex lpn. i was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to study for the nclex lpn or just nursing school lpn in general? i am not doing very well on my peds exams.. are there any supplemental books that i should use or buy that helped you pass? how did you study for the nclex lpn? how did you study for pharmacology? please help. thanx.
  6. some of my classmates are bullying me. i feel like i am in high school all over again. what should i do? should i report what they have done to my professor? i feel like my professor is really good friends with one of the bullies, so i don't know how that will go and if my professor will do anything to help me. basically they made fun of my age (they made a statement how nurses should be graduating by 20 or 21 in their home country) and i'm 23.. i feel like they hold a resentment because i am not like them and from their country...and then another one of the students made fun of the fact that i have a tendency to go to the bathroom a lot. it usually comes up in topic of discussion when we are in a group setting, but it really doesn't bother me or make me feel embarassed because doesn't everyone need to go to the bathroom? what should i do? should i just blow it off or tell my professor? i really don't see this prson that often. i can try to avoid the main bully the whole year and just try to avoid the other bullies or lay low. i have about five months until i graduate but i really don't want to start anything huge because i just want to graduate and leave. please help? i don't know why they want to start picking fights when we're almost about to graduate. it's kind of annoying.
  7. i need help. i'm trying to study for my final but i can't seem to care. i'm trying small chunks at a time.. but i just feel restless and angry and nothing seems to be getting done. i'm being so lazy. please help. 7 hours passed and i think all i've accomplished is 40 minutes of reading. seriously.
  8. what's the best way to review pharmacology? flashcards? draw pictures? what are some of the books that you use?
  9. i don't know how i got here. i went to rn school, and i failed after second sem. i took cna, and i FAILED the boards for the skills portion of cna. i didn't put the patient in correct alignment and turn them correctly for SUPINE. some part of me became negligent and felt the patient was fine to be a few inches misplaced to the right.. why was i so careless? no idea. it's part of who i am. not to be pessimistic or against change, but i have this carefree part of my personality that refuses to change. no matter what i do. i'm tired of failing and feeling miserable. i'm also putting myself through lvn...my mom is going to put down her five thousand dollars for me and take on a loan.. i feel scared. i know i can accomplish lvn, but i can't even accomplish CNA!!!!!!!!! in my head i KNOW i can do this, but reality keeps denying me what i think i can do. i feel that i should just get in there and stop whining. but now i feel rushed and exhausted.. which is part of the reason why i thnk i failed cna because i didn't have much time to prepare the skills... i was takin a/p and pharm preqs OVER again... while i was taking cna. what's wrong with me? what questions should i be asking myself? i'm 21 years old.. turning 22. whole life ahead of me and don't know where i want to go but for now, i'm miserable. help.
  10. my professors won't give me a rec to lvn school because i haven't shown her that i'm capable of these three areas. please help me. i failed out of nursing school for these reasons. now i'm in a cna program and i seem to suck at that too. i did a bed bath which i didn't prepare for and i just did it because i thought, well, i want to get checked off for something. i was tired of just throwing away dirty linen and giving baths and not getting credit. i guess one of my main problems is patience and being proud. if i had stragetized better i would have put that last and did all the baby things like shaving, etc. there's so many little steps that i have to think about but i'm worried i'm failing behind and i'm losing. i also can't give in and let myself be irresponsible, but that's just what i'm doing. please help. "you dont look like you know what you're doing." how many times have i heard that one before? two years have passed. will i ever grasp nursing concept?
  11. hey guys. i was curious if anyone here knows a nurse anesthesiologist... or knows how to become one? how about a anesthesiologist? thanks!
  12. which school would you choose? career propriety school costing $18,000, has a program that has been running for five years, has a nclex-pn passing rate of 80-90%..? i've heard that career propriety schools close randomly and leave students stranded. is this true? how can you pay that money for a school and for it to be closed down on you? would you wait a year for an LVN program at a community college that is well known, has a passing rate of 96% but is also harder to get into.. please help!
  13. the LVN school that starts this fall but will cost you $18,000 but is also a lesser known school? the LVN school that starts next fall 2010 but will cost maybe $8,0000 at a better known school?
  14. i need help deciding which school to go into. i recently was in a nursing program and was dropped in second semester after failing twice. do you think it would be wiser to carry on with nursing (i only passed first semester) and try to get my LVN and then bridge to RN.. or would it be wiser to start a new course like respiratory therapist? the prereqs are almost the same, i would have to take high school physics and RT 1 though to get into the respiratory therapist. there are only 2 schools that provide RT school courses around my area, mt sac/elac and also los angeles valley college. all i'm aware of is that RT school doesn't have the same flexiblity as nursing in terms of making a schedule. plus, RT doesn't really have like that upward mobility that nursing does.. because a nurse can become a nurse practioner, midwife, or get a phd etc. nursing seems like a broader job market and it seems there are more jobs for nurses than there are for RTs. yet, RTs have the advantage of not cleaning after people's bowel movements, lifting patients, and not having to care about a pt from head to toe. a nurse seems to do much more while an RT is more specialized to one area. the RT is also paid as much as the nurse. opinions or suggestions? i'm very confused. please help! PS (other excuses): i also have a minor disability in hearing and a pin in my right arm.. if i twist my arm too much it starts to hurt, which is why i feel a little insecure about being a nurse because i have to lift patients etc. the hearing also interferes with taking orders. i'm also a timid person. i am not assertive enough for pt's to feel safe with me. my professors thought it was an issue... so i don't know how to fix that. please help.
  15. what are the pros and cons of going thru lvn instead of rn? what are the pros and cons of going through rn instead of lvn? i flunked out of nusing school after failing a course twice so i'm thinking since i did so bad i should try lvn since it may be easier than taking up the RN. but i have to wait until the LVN program opens up and there's only one lvn program i know of at a community college. i'm not about to spend 20-30 thousand dollars for an LVN degree when i can wait a year and pay about less than half of that price for the same degree... and at a place i recognize. what should i do for a year? i am planning to get my cna.. then work as a cna...what do you guys think? is this a good plan?
  16. i already failed twice so i used my last chance. sigh. my prof thought i sucked in terms of critical thinking and being assertive.. so she rec'd lvn. ugh.
  17. i retook the semester and failed again.. this time it was because the professor thought i had not improved based on her opinion/judgment/observation. sigh. that's why i'm considering LVN since i guess, RN was too hard for me even though i was studying a lot.
  18. how hard is the nclex-pn? what's the exam like? how did you study for the nclex pn? did you use review books for the nclex pn? what are the books you would use to pass the nclex-pn exam?
  19. anyone here an LVN? how difficult is LVN school vs Rn school? what gpa did you have/how many units did you have in college that allowed you pass LVN school? is there any way to prepare for LVN school? how much did you pay for LVN school? is there another way of going through LVN school aside from going to community college? like through a hospital program? is there a such thing? thanks for your help guys.
  20. i failed out of nursing school and i'm so confused i have no idea what to do or where to go. i failed second semester (ob/peds/med surg) should i wait a year and try to get into an LVN program? should i try to reapply to another rn nursing school and wait for a semester? should i go to a CSU and try something completely new? i honestly don't know what to do with my life. i'm screwed. please help.
  21. can anyone tell me what being an EMT is like? how much the programs usually cost and what stuff you do? what kind of patients do you see? how long do these programs usually take? would you reccomend someone becoming an EMT or a CNA or both to get experience?
  22. i got into the nursing program at pcc in 2008 with a gpa of 3.5ish. i didn't have straight As. my B was in microbio and in anatomy and i had As in all the other prereqs. i was waitlisted... my name was like the first name on the waitlist and someone dropped and i got in. so yes, there is a wait list. i don't think there are admission stats but you can ask. all i know is that when i applied there's a lottery of about 300 students and only 60 people are taken. could be different now. you applied in april? so you'll be getting in fall 09. good luck!
  23. thank you guys for helping me gain insight about a career in psychology! your opinions were very valuable to me on my journey.
