  1. This is my first time traveling and immediately two places want my long experience,(NICU). The first place I can drive to, the other is far across the country. When one goes by air, (I would not drive to Tuscon), how do you get a car? Is it not expensive to send a car there? I have not worked for over 6 months and have limited funds. I know the company reimburses for the air fare, (with cat). What about the car? I should have asked already. I just signed on over the holidays and soon as my info was out the phone has been ringing, (I have been really sick until today). I've been offered the closer job already and well....about the car. What has been people's experience?
  2. Dear Storm, The crow in the ancient Celtic teachings, (and others), is the animal totem or energy that represents the "Otherworld", or the doorway to the other dimensions. The transition of the dying is the passing through a doorway into another experience of "being" that is truly just another beginning. The remarkable series "Six Feet Under" aptly used the Crow in it's opening sequence. Possibly those who "see Crows" have this as their totem. Lovely!
  3. Dear ones, I myself have experienced visions etc. of the sort already described here and they are quite common and helpful to the dying as well as the living. I wish to correct "CuriousMe", however. The quote that is often attributed to Nelson Mandela was created and written first by Marianne Williamson and used by Pres. Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech.
  4. Hello, First my thanks to Nightingale and the moderators who do such a good job for this discussion board. I am an R.N. with 33 years experience, (28 of it NICU 26 yrs,-Level III, the last 2 yrs at a Level II nursery, (I prefer more challenging pts.) I also have worked general peds while at the bigger place, PICU and adolescent/child psyche for a few years on the side. I have been unemployed for more than half of this year for the first time ever, because of a sleep disorder that was complicated by night shift. I could never sleep more than 2 hours at one time and sometimes 2 hrs /day or less on my time off. I love night shift, but have struggled with it for 2 years. Most meds on the market did not work for me and after finding a non sleep med that did work, I weaned my self off of it and have now been sleeping at night without medication for almost 3 months! This is the best I have felt in the last six years. Long story short, I have been working with AMH for a few weeks and just this week talking with ON Assign. OA has some dayshift positions, but have more limited options on all shifts. I realize that one place can not satisfy everyone's needs. I have to say that before working night shift for the last 8 years, I was for 2 decades a day shift person. I am concerned with what I have heard about the big conglomerate that AMH is a part of, (the E.....Empire?). In all these years I have never traveled before. My only child is in graduate school for a Masters/PhD in Birmingham, Ala. I am adaptable because I have worked more than 2 places at once before. I know it will be my decision based on what my needs are, the facts, rounded out by my own strong intuitive sense, (the best way to decide anything is to combine the logical fact base with intuition, provided one has learned to trust it...which I do). Is there anything that anyone can offer in a respectful way, regarding the companies, that might be of help? thanks, Colleen
  5. whoops...! I spelled only wrong and I am a good speller! Colleen
  6. Dear Nurses, I am interested in travel nursing, but wish to stay a bit closer to my home of Lexington, Ky. I am not interested in selling my small condominium, and I am using my retirement account to exist on...as I have been out of work for over 7 months, (1st time in 33 years). I have 26 years of Level III NICU and 2 years Level II. I have already retired from the major teaching hospital here for nine years and worked for them in the pool for six years after that. They currently do not need my help and the other one I left after 2 years they would not let me off night shift and opened up 2 dayshift lines 2 weeks after I left, (I was up for 48 hours on my time off, sleeping only enough to start the next 2 12 shifts). I have an underlying sleep disorder. It has taken me 5.5 months out of the 7 months of not working for me to re-learn to sleep at night. I also want space in between travel assignments to create an ultimately self employment picture. I have my own health insurance. I am an excellent teacher. I have many years of graduate school, but technically no masters, (long story). Was is OGrady Peyton really like? I have also worked on the pediatric wards of a tertiary medcenter and PICU as a pool RN. I also have 4.5 years of child and adolescent psyche, (worked on the side). I am a recovering workaholic and these last months have been very insightful for me, but I do need to work starting in the New Year. I have not gotten one response from the many resumes I have sent in this area, even for those outside of neonatal! That has never happened to me, even when I talk to people one on one or per phone. Thanks for your reading and responses. My ownly son is grown. I have been divorced for many years and have a loving spiritual family here in Lexington,(non traditional). My son is 25 and persuing his MS/Ph/D in Birmingham, Alabama. I do not see him very often. Sincerely, Colleen
  7. Hi, After exploring this thread, I now realize that O'Grady-Peyton is part of The Evil Empire...and I want nothing to do with that after all these years. In fact, the more I read this thread, the more I am turned off by travel nursing and realize how good I have had it, even though I'm currently unemployed for the last several months,(first time in long career). I love NICU though and have no desire to work with adults...at least in nursing. Colleen
  8. Hi, I'm interested in traveling for the first time in my 33 years as a nurse. I have a diploma, BSN, plus 8 years of graduate school and 28 years of neonatal ICU nursing, (26 at a Level III). I do not wish to sell my small condo in Lexington, Ky.as it is also the homebase of my spiritual family, (non traditional), to which I am very committed. My son is grown and I would love to take a 12 week assignment to Univ of Ala. at Birmingham, where he is in grad school. I am also very adaptable and confident in my skills. I wish to focus on NICU, though I have worked all over pediatrics. I was considering O'Grady Peyton based on their reputation. Why did you only travel with them for a short time, (the person who responded to this thread)? I would like to travel for 3 months, take a break,(do other things), then take another assignment and so on. Is this possible. Are there others out there who maintain a small residence in a home base? Colleen
  9. Hello Florry! I do EMF separate from my daily nursing practice. I am also interested in Dr. Eric Pearle's totally non-structured use of what it is called Reconnective Energy. I am not certified, but think that this is part of the "new energy dynamics" of this transitional time for the planet. His life history and story is truly amazing. It is not touch therapy or anything like it. You don't even direct the energy or the session, NO TECHNIQUE, it is just there to be used uniquely on every client. His book is wonderful! Love, Colleen/Guardian
  10. I know about Reiki and have non-nurse friends who are Reiki practitioners. Some of these practitioners do the newest energy work around, which I also do, and that is the EMF Balancing Technique. When I asked a Reiki Master , who is also an Advanced EMF practitioner and Teacher should I go back and get the Reiki training she said no because the EMF is an evolvement of Reiki through the feminine form. You can learn about EMF at the website EMFBalancingTechnique.com. It is a woo-woo thing, but I'm comfortable with that and it is truly a wonderful technique! It is done lovingly and with gentle Ti'chi,(spelling),- like motions. The intents said throughout are beautiful and directs the energy body of the client. Blessings, Guardian
