I know at two hospitals I worked at they would have nurses working as aides every once and a while, but not full time. But the only reason they would do that was because they were short an aide and the cencus was to low to use them on the floor as a nurse. I know the nurses who did work as aides occasionally would still get their meds if they asked for them while they were in their rooms doing aide work. Hell I even had a charge nurse and nursing supervisor who would work as an aide once a month just for overtime hours and just wanted a break from nursing responsibiltys. They used to always say, " same pay, less responsibilitys" I do agree with a lot of the posters that even though your working as an CNA under a LPN/RN license your still looked at and still have the legal responsibilitys of an LPN/RN. One thing my two aunts who are also RN's always told me is that no one will ever back you up not even your hospital cause all they have to do is get rid of you and sometimes your license and hire someone else to take your place before your even out the door.That is my deal too!!! I took it yesterday and Im going crazy just waiting. Im hoping also that I get my results tomorrow or even today and not have to wait the whole weekend. I also did the PVT and it wouldnt let me re-register. Im hoping thats a good sign (fingers crossed) I did hear though that PVT is 99% accurate, but until I see my license number Im still not a believer. Dont get me wrong, it did give me a sense of hope and calmness, but still until I see my license number on the FLBON is when I will calm down and be happy!!Just took my NCLEX-PN yesterday @ noon in Gainesville, Fl and I am stressing out to the max. I was more nervous coming out then when I was going in. I got stopped at 107-110, the last number I remember seeing was 107 and then shortly after it shut off. I had a lot of mom/baby, peds and pharm questions and mom/baby and peds are my weak parts. Also had a lot of select all, hot spots and drag and drops in order. I did the PVT and got the good luck window, but still nothing on the FLBON.....Im so hoping I passed!!! I went through a lot to get here and it wasnt easy. Between ending a 3 year relationship, losing my job, dogs eating my NCLEX book, car breaking down and having to buy a new car, and just finding out 2 weeks ago that my new hospital was being closed down by state, I need this to be an uplift to this past 7 months......Oh yeah I have been out of school for 7 months, before taking my boards. Its been hard, but I saved up all my money and finally got the 404.00 to pay for it. But at the time gas was near 4.00 a gallon and I did the math and going to Galen everyday and clinicals would have been more for me in gas. I will have to say though, Galen nurses were more respected then GCC nurses, I dont know why but they were. Also Galen has the LPN to RN bridge too. I looked into it after I graduated from GCC, but if I can remember correct, they wanted me to already have my license in hand, GCC just wants to have proof you have a sit date for the boards.I went to Gulf Coast College and graduated from their LPN program last June of 09. The school has great teachers and a great lab, but the clinicals were hard to come by and some were even dropped right under our feet. They said it was due to being an LPN program and their not really using LPN's anymore. I did the day class that was 12 months, but the evening course is 15 months and all clinicals are on the weekends and evenings (just a heads up) also the cost of the program for me was 21k and finacial aide only pays so much and to where if you dont have good credit you have to go through their loan group that is 15% and you have to pay about 100.00 a month to the school or they wont pass you on to the next quarter. Overall though, I loved the school and the teachers. Just one thing though, before getting out of the program you have to pass an exit exam with a 92% or better even if you have an A in your med-surg 2 class, you will have to repeat. Also they changed it up after the first quarter and that was you need to keep your test grade average in your classes of 75% or better. Good Luck!!
